I like it, very Humbug-ish, no doubt the people who only love the first two albums won't get it. I'm looking forward to the 5th album as I feel they've never made a bad album and actually got better with each album.

I like it. Has a nice bass line. Hopefully all the album isn't as Josh Homme-y though, a good track.

Has the feel of a James Bond theme. Just love that dark groove it has and the video is great.

Yep, hope ye're all ready, lads. UK tour being announced after Glasto. I haven't got the word on any more Irish dates (other than EP, obviously) but I'm hoping they won't do the dog on us this time round, like last time.

Just a live version but I really like it, studio version should be even better. New album looking good, very humbug-y which I love.

Someone needs to remind Alex Turner he's not from New York City he's from Rotherham (Sheffield) going by his accent at Glastonbury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,920 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

Just watched their set on the BBC, Turner came across like a cheesy karaoke bingo caller.

That's what he was going for, the kinda Billy Fury/Elvis showmanship approach. It seemed to be nearly like a character he donned for the gig. I thought it was quite entertaining and he'd good audience interaction.

Great set too. I'm looking forward to their new album even more now.

I'm only a few songs in. Is he taking the píss or what?

Between the new look and talking like a knob..

    Ludicrous.

Yeah he was playing a 50's style rocker playing up to the crowd who clearly loved it. The Guy changes things up and that set at Glastonbury was a cracker.

To the guys saying he's acting like a knob should stop taking it all so serious.

Oh just enjoy it, he's playing it up. Stop been a snob. Stop acting like Frontmen don't act like that.

Act like what? Doing a Shakin' Stevens impression while talking like you're from a different part of the world. I don't know any other front man who does that. What's the point? I don't get it.

    I like the band too.

I taught along with Primal Scream and Chic the set of the festival so far.

I did think it was a great set, he annoys me now though. Strategically lighting up a smoke to appear cool, and having a go at people in the crowd for not waving their arms to Pretty Little Visitors. Won't take away from their music one bit though personally speaking. Love the new tune too.

New single's gonna be 'Why'd You Only Cal Mel When You're High', video shot.

    Agh.

It should be "Why D'you Only Call Me When You're High?".

  • Registered Users Posts: 588 ✭✭✭cometogether

Unless the album tracks are a serious let down, I reckon this will be their best album yet

  • Registered Users Posts: 433 ✭✭Burt Macklin

Published the artwork on their website

Also Josh Homme is to appear on two tracks. This is all shaping up nicely I think.

agreed mate, I think they have gotten better musically with each album. I will say though, I do prefer the "Humbug" album to the "suck it and see" album. I prefer it's more rock sound to the at-times-indie-sound of "Suck it and see". It sounds like there is a more prevalent "The Smiths" esque influence as opposed to the psychadelic and rock sounds on "Humbug". I would like to hear more stuff like "Are you mine?" and the songs with Richard Hawley. "Favourite worst nightmare" as some great moments on it too.

    Not bad!!

I like it very commercial sounding and very good for a b-side. Reviews are out for AM Q have given it 4/5, Mojo 4/5 and Uncut 8/10. They are all saying the same that the songs are catchy as hell. So all bodes well for the new album.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Chavways

How do they keep managing to make brilliant B-Sides?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,216 ✭✭✭Looper007

This is awesome, this album is shaping to be their best yet. The riff is amazing.

Do I wanna Know, R U Mine, Why'd you only call me when you're High, Arabella, One for the Road, No 1 party Anthem, Mad Sounds, Fireside, Snap out of it, Knee Socks and I want be yours (Lyrics by John Cooper Clarke) are all classic monkey tunes. I want it all is a good album track.

I give it a 9.5/10 just amazing from start to finish.

They played this at Electric Picnic on Sunday. Id never heard it before but it was awesome. Alex was fairly hammered on stage and didn't start singing when he was supposed to on when the sun goes down haha. Can't wait for the album though.

Its a fantastic album, only song im not fond of is 'Mad Sounds', it's not Turners best acoustic type song, most of the Submarine soundtrack songs were better, it sounds like a b-side. It's a really good album though, it's an interesting direction they went and I think it worked very well. 'One For The Road' and 'Fireside' are the standouts, very different sounding Monkeys but Turners voice certainly pulls off the different type 'beats' he sings over.
