Might as well post here since I'm a long term lurker. Been trying to get back into golf but back is messed up at the moment.

Went around Charlesland in 115 last Thursday (I'm off 22) and had 20 points. Was awful.

Today went around in 104 and 27 points. Much happier was hitting the irons better and made a good few long puts. Aim is to break 95 soon. Just getting back into the swing of things at the moment.

35 points Saturday 35 points Sunday. Left loads of shots out there. Lost my singles match on 17th Sunday also. Had a bit of a "Rod Stewart" I don't wanna talk about it.

36(18)(18) pts off 12 @ Druids Heath yesterday playing off the green markers.

A round that included 3 birdies on the front 9 and 3 scratches overall which was disappointing.

Can feel a really good round coming soon, hopefully in Druids Glen tomorrow evening.

Could a member post the results of the comp if possible. I'd imagine 40/1 points won it.

14 points for 9 holes in Mahon just there this eve. Was just losing shots around the green, it was joyous to hit the ball after Mitchelstowns antics. Tee to 30 yards of green was grand, then it was just the usual for me.

Played my first ever game of matchplay in the annual club comp and won 2&1, DELIGHTED!!!
He was off 5 and I'm off 15, but I was in no way hopeful, even with 10 shots. Started off terrible, shanked a wedge on the first and lost the ball, but pulled it back on the second with an up & down. It went on 1up, 1 down for the next few holes, but by the 7th he realized I don't miss many fairways and rather than hit a 3 iron off every tee, he had to start going for driver, that made him a bit more uncomfortable and I think that messed with his game.
I hit driver well, I chipped and putter great, but I couldn't hit an iron all day.
The thread on matchplay here really helped me, I played the safe shot all day and treated the round as just any other round, I didn't even pay attention to his game and a few times he'd have a putt of 1 foot but as I wasn't sure how many shots he'd taken, I wouldn't give it:D
Luck was on my side and he's probably played his worst game of the year, but I'll take it!!

Hitting 3 irons of every tee for first 7 holes, he must of been rattled himself... nice win

Thanks, that be great. Was cut .4 according to Golfnet, so back down to 11 which was a bonus. Good score for your playing partner and a reduction for him too.

Played Druids Glen this evening in a fourball better ball competition.
The course chewed me up and spat me out, again.

It was my third time playing the course and I struggled each time. Playing there again a couple more times in the next couple of weeks so hopefully I will get a good round in at some stage.

Having said that, even when playing dirt it's a pleasure to walk around it and for only €20 with a member ya can't go wrong :)

    Lost my matchplay 3&2

My putting was truly awful...it pretty much cost me the match.

37 points around Athlone this evening playing off 5. Played some really good golf except for 2 holes really

the 6th hole was playing straight down wind and from a forward tee I tried to hit a baby half 9 iron from 135 yards. Ended up carrying the green and clearing it over the 7th tee some 30 yards further behind the green into the Shannon. Nice scratch there.

Also took a 6 on the last hole with a 4 putt :(

but apart from that played really solid stuff with 3 birdies. Could have had about 9 birdies though if I just got a few putts to drop. Horseshoed out of the hole 4 times from inside 10 feet for birdies. Had an eagle putt stop on the lip too :(

43 strokes (+9) after work yesterday for 9 holes,

Hitting the irons a bit better and a lot less duffs, as a result the GIR has improved slightly.

When hitting the irons; at address I have my hand now slightly forward of the clubhead and think this has helped a bit, and also increased distance. Before I had it level with the ball but I had seen on one of the other threads about the position of hands and gave it a try.

    1 pars
    7 bogeys
    1 double bogeys

    3/6 FIR
    3/9 GIR
    20 putts

33pts at Woodland GC Open today... Leaving too many out there and cannot get through a round without 2 disasters. My first six holes had two scratches, two pars, a bogey and a deuce today! Need to wipe out the disasters, really holding me back from shooting a nice score or two and getting the handicap back down.

31 points and 88 strokes off 12 around the European today. Delighted with the score as its my first 30's round since I changed my grip recently. Struck the ball well and only lost shots for silly mistakes and unlucky run-offs etc.

    4 Pars
    11 Bogeys
    3 Doubles
    FIR 53%
    GIR 22%
    Putts 33

KClub Ryder tomorrow now so more of the same please.

    27 points in Macroom today.
3 scratches but too many 1 pointers.
Long game in good nick, short game not sharp at all, no feel around the greens.
Course is in pristine condition well worth the €15.

Very poor round today at the Killeen Open. No excuses I played dreadful for the most part. Some excellent drives but still managed to lose 5 balls going into water. The putter was struggling (I mean I was) from 6 birdie putts I only managed to walk off two greens with a par.

The weather was great and great credit to the folks at Killeen as the course is in fantastic shape. A pleasure to play even as poor as I did.

Played Moyvalley today shot 79 playing some awful stuff so I was happy enough. The greens were just fertilised and very thick and slow for my liking but all in all worth the €14 I paid for it.

78 gross in Carlow GC yesterday off 3.

Disappointing score, considering not only some decent golf of late, but also the weather, which was absolutely incredible. Playing an open singles off the back tees was unusual, a rare experience in general I would have thought, but it wasn't my long game that let me down. Drove the ball really well with the exception of one expensive tee shot off the index 1 7th, where I pulled one left into some cabbage. Chopped it out well, but 3 putted for a double which kind of set the tone for the day. Outside of a 10 footer for par on 13, I made nothing on the greens, and 35 putts overall was considerably more than I've taken of late.

Back to back three putts on 3 and 4 (the latter of which I will unashamedly put down to a really disappointingly thought out pin-position) stifled an encouraging start, and a birdieless round was to be complimented with a third and final three putt, this time for par on 18. It will mean my second straight 0.1, after missing the buffer by one stroke in Lucan on Tuesday, and since I have ambitions of playing the North of Ireland in Portrush this July, each one hurts. Am hoping a decent performance on Saturday will keep the handicap in check; a few less movements on the dance floor, and a good score is on.

Will say one thing however; Carlow is one of the most challenging, fairest (with the exception of fourth green) and best designed courses in Ireland. Anyone who hasn't played it should make it their business to do so.
Edit: css was 32pts, so 0.1 avoided. Much happier :-)

    Return Of The Living Snaphooks
Had an 80 today +7, started triple biride double, that summed up the day.
Hit 5 snaphooks today that cost me 6 dropped shots hitting into hazards and taking penalty drops.
Only positive I can take any was I made some nice up and downs for bogeys to limit the damage.

Second round on a full course last weekend and scored 103 which I was extremely happy with considering I wasnt using woods as I ain't confident with them at all yet, used a three hybrid on the longer holes which was borrowed with the guy I was playing with and had some brilliant shots with it. reckon it was a lucky score a little to be honest but was delighted with it to be honest and did wonders for my confidence

72 gross on the O'Meara course in carton house, practice round for the McGinley trophy.
course was in great condition, greens a little slow so could be very aggressive with putts

Lost 2&1 in club championship match yesterday evening on killeen,
played ok,but giving too many shots to a young lad who is playing a lot more golf than me,had 5 birdies but gave away too many soft holes.
going straight from work to the first tee is never a good idea!
disappointed to lose as i was the defending champion but he was a nice lad and a good player so best of luck to him:)

    Captain's Prize in Bandon yesterday.

Started with a routine bogey on 1, then put my drive OB on the long par-4 2 (index 4 and I'm off 22), put another drive OB, caught my third drive well and sent next shot down near green only to pull a wedge into a bunker. Didn't get out first time and also took sand on my takeaway, got out second time and, like all good golfing disasters, finished with a three-putt for 13.

Played fine after that, bar 13, where I hit my first right-to-left drive of the day to go OB left and take an 8. Finished with three pars for a nett 80, would have had 32 Stb points so at least I won't get a 0.1, have to get cut soon though.
