The thing is, I've had 3x HTC's now and they are great at the start but after 6-9 months they just get slow and laggy. I've regretted not buying samsung several times in the past. I like the removable cover/battery on the S4. Battery is a huge factor for me. I'm not that bothered about the build quality - the S4 is good enough for me.. I'm still undecided

How about anyone else what factors made you decide?

Samsung definitely aren't immune to problems over time. My girlfriend's friend had to return her S3 because it got slower and slower over time then started freezing. My girlfriend had the same problem but I rooted and put a custom Rom on for her.

Ever phone is subject to "bit rote" every once in a while a complete wiped needs to be done or at least regularly clean cache and delete useless files.

How can Sense be more responsive than stock android? Surely nothing can be more responsive than the stock experience? Everything else it's just an overlay that can just slow it down, even if it's imperceptible. I can't believe that if the One is released with stock it won't be as responsive as the version with Sense.

It's not necessarily an overlay. Android is open source so they can take the stock android and make changes to it to improve how it runs.

In terms of battery life, I have a One X and the biggest battery drain I have the Facebook app. That and Facebook messenger really drain the phone when logged in. Now just use browser and seeing a massive improvement. May help the One too

The Facebook App may be firing up the GPS to get your location as well. Also facebook runs in the background like a messenger does and notifies you everytime someone posts or likes something. If I were you I would kill it until you want to do some facebooking.

Im hoping to get the One on Friday while signing up for Meteor bill pay. Can anyone confirm that it comes with NFC and Infrared? There is no mention of NFC on the Meteor site.

It has NFC and infrared. The on/off button doubles as the infrared port

Nice. My HTC Desire Z is no longer dependable. I keep getting random shut offs, the power button does work anymore etc, and I need to be able to depend on my phone. I will miss the hard keyboard, but, this looks like great bang for your buck.

I remember when I got rid of my HTC Touch Pro 2, I was worried about how much I would miss the physical keyboard.

Fact of the matter is I've had no less than 8 android phones with no physical keyboard since then, have never looked back.

The keyboard on this doesnt work great any more so I have partly gotten into the habit of the soft keyboard, and I recently installed swype which I quite like. Now, the only functionality which I find useful is, popping out the keyboard turns it into horizontal mode, which is my preferred mode for looking at websites, but maybe I can configure the One to do this for me automatically.

You can just turn it on its side to go to landscape mode. Surely the desire Z had this as well? Every android phone I've ever used has this feature, although admittedly none of them had a physical keyboard.

Yeah, why not just rotate the phone to view in landscape? Coming from such an old phone, I'm sure you'll take some time to get used to the changes. For example, the One has more pixels running widthwise across the screen than the desire z had along it's entire length! You could probably view websites on the One better in portrait than you could in landscape on the desire.

As far as keyboards go, I've always thought swiftkey is far and away the best, although the stock HTC keyboard with trace typing enabled is actually awesome!

The facebook app is completely sapping my battery of my One X at the moment. Going to delete the app for a day or two to see how bad it actually is

[*]When it comes to software... I actually quite like Blinkfeed. It's aesthetically pleasing and it's more or less a very nice widget alternative to Flipboard.

Me too and exactly how I use it. I still prefer Flipboard though for how customisable it is. Does anyone know if there are plans to improve the variety of sources for Blinkfeed?

Another question - any recommendations for NFC tags?

This location stuff is really grating on me...
I just downloaded a weather widget and it told me my location services are off... They are not... It also thought I was in Galway... I'm in central London... I'm just confused. I have cleared data and restarted but nothing works.

Google maps finds me fine. Google now also says my location services is off.

I picked mine up from http://rapidnfc.com/ and they were fine, they do keyfobs etc too which are handy for the car. Just be careful that you buy tags that have enough memory for what you want them to do. Some of the tags are marked 'Ultralight' - they have less memory than the other tags so they can't store as many commands.

Think a few people had similar issues a few pages back on the thread. Vague idea someone suggested it was linked to the Google location services being off.

Does anyone know how to turn off the irritating prompts to check in everywhere? Not sure if it's a Facebook or a Google thing.

Was just about to post about this.
It happened to me after the recent firmware upgrade.
I first noticed that Google home wasn't working, then weather and other apps.

Even though the location services are set on they are not functioning correctly.

I did a lot of digging and unfortunately the only answer is a factory reset! :(

Now I did a backup via HTC backup, so kept mostly everything, apart from SMS and some settings.

Actually, and this was just a setting, but the Z didnt automatically go into landscape mode when you turned it on its side, it only did that when you ejected the keyboard. In some ways I liked that feature as it gave you more control over when you wanted landscape mode, and you could read in landscape mode, while lying on your side in bed, while the phone was actually upright.

ANyway, to pre-empt my changeover, I set my browser to automatically display webpages in landscape mode, so come Friday /Monday when I get my One, I should be ready for it.

Really looking forward to using the tags. Changing profiles for going into meetings, is going to be dead easy(and for the first few weeks, fun too).

SMS is easily backed up with various apps if you have any important ones you don't want to lose

Try the options under Google Maps -> Menu -> Location settings -> Check-Ins

Brilliant, thanks, that's been driving me mad. Final straw was arriving at the church for a family funeral and being asked if I wanted to check in there

This might be your problem - download and install the updated Play Store and you should be sorted.

It's been a rumour for a while, but the Google Edition of the One is officially official now, it seems.....

Is the One still unlocked on Meteor or was it just the first batch. If they are still unlocked does it have branding like splash screens etc. Thanks

Got mine last week and was still unlocked without branding

I have a One S since October, locked to vodafone.
Over the last couple of weeks it's intermittently powering itself off, comes back on then with the 'Send error report to HTC' Phone has had abnormal reset... Anyone ever seen this before?
Have done a factory reset which hasn't helped much, have very little apps or pics etc on so it's not a memory or power issue... :( Not sure what might be wrong with it, any ideas would be great :)

Hi guys. Trying the get the new One in store in Carlow. I'm currently with Three PAYG. but the price for the One is 600e and Meteor is only charging 530e . And most people seems to say its not sim locked so i went over to carphonewarhouse but they only have one on Billpay for Meteor, he said he's getting some stock tomorrow, but he doesn't know what exactly is in the stock....Went to the Meteor store and the sales said I have to wait for a week!... :(

any one thinks its crazy that the same phone could be priced almost 80e difference?

First rule of economics: something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Even crazier, Im getting my HTC one for free for just signing up for meteor bill pay. I already spend near enough to 50 quid a month on credit, so this is a no brainer.

Well ****, one of the connectors for the sim card broke off, rendering my phone useless. Any authorised service repair places in Limerick? I'm sure this would be covered under the warranty.

    Where did you buy it?
