Let me guess, short game let you down? Always the way.
Yeah it was weird. I read this book called "Dealing with last round pressure" by a guy called Sergio Garcia.
Followed everything he said and just seemed to fall apart over the last few holes

25 points in Fernhill today, 6 scratches and a par. The rest was pretty standard.

2nd round of the year after lessons so happy with most of what I did.

101 hits around home course this morning, started off scartch scratch double double but pulled it back to stay in the round to finish par bogey par bogey.

Following a lesson on Monday night wasn't really watching the shot count, working on the grip and swing path. Playing the Scratch Cup in Mitchelstown this Friday so game could be ok for then. Saturday week will see me at the peak of my prowess....

36 points in the open comp in Athlone today ( 5 over par ). - was 5 over after 5 so was good to go level par after that, but had four 3-putts. including 2 where I was on par 5's in 2. One of them, the 7th - Drive/5 iron to 15 feet and then the 12th - Drive/5 wood to 6 feet. so yeah....

also 3 putted the index 1 16th par 4 after knocking it on in 2 to 10 feet :)

To say my ball striking is sensational is an understatement. :D

To say my putting is disgraceful is an understatement

73 strokes around Lucan today in the Open singles and managed to scrape the Gross Prize. Was honestly the worst score I could have had. Lipped out four times for birdies and missed another 5-6 chances inside 12 feet.

Managed to bogey the downwind par 5 18th after driving behind a tree so that was disappointing. The greens yesterday were immaculate. If there are better greens anywhere in the country at the moment, I would love to see them. Was informed by the greenkeeper that they were 11 on the Stimpmetre.

Open week finishes on Sunday for anyone interested.

Consider starting a thread for some help but what everyone is going to say is get a lesson(your standing too close or your not clearing your body)

    84 today.

Was going very well - then it was lashing rain for last 7 and sort of fell apart.

Had a par on index 1 and was 5 over after 11.

Had an O.B then and everything got very wet. No wind today so was very enjoyable for first 11.

A bit of a slice back in game, for some reason. OTT again I guess. But a big improvement. Putting a little better. More relaxed.

37 points around Rathcore (home course)

    out 23
    in 14:eek:

to say I'm disappointed is an under statement! nothing went well on the back 9 apart for a chip in birdie on the 18th.

    31 points. 98 blows. Again. 0.1. Again.

8 points from the 3 par 3's on the front balanced the 2 points that I had got from the 3 par 5's and I turned with 18.

13 points on the back, 3 scratches - 2 from seemingly great positions. I somehow found myself on a downslope in a water hazard 280 yards down the fairway with a 3 wood. Should have taken relief but bladed it into the hazard instead. 2 holes later I put a wedge over the back of the green (it actually bounced in the fringe) and took 3 to find the green from there...

positives: 10 points from my three outside holes. Each of them at least a two putt as well - so the long game working on them.
    7 gir.

    Negatives:
4 points from the 5 par 5's! I'll have to have a look back through the last number of rounds and see if there's a pattern there. It's not that I'm short - my outside holes averaged 430 today, 2 into the wind, so there might be something to look at in there.
    42 putts.
my luck. I was genuinely unlucky a few times.

Not too bad at all TRW and really good front 9. Should set you up nicely for the medal next week.

27 off 18 on home course Tuam. Puke hybrids and long irons. At the range during the week hitting them better than ever so very disappointed. Five pars good. Five scratches gack. A few brain farts to boot.
Just want to get out again ASAP and exorcise that sheit.

Played a society outing in Birr this morning. Greens in super condition but it's not a course I personally like particularly as there are too many blind shots and too many criss cross points which I'm sure at times must be pretty dangerous. Disappointed with my 27pts mainly as I had 17 of them in a decent front 9 before turning to mush on the back 9. Had 6x1 pointers on the back and a scratch too

On the plus side I won a bottle of wine for closest to the pin :D

just in from 18 holes, scored 33 points, very dissapointed as it is the first day with no wind! i had six 1 pointers and a scratch, so lots of room for improvement, second shots were very bad and putting!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,800 ✭✭✭Senna

First day out with no wind and the links greens were nice and soft after all the rain yesterday, so I had high expectations. Just couldn't make anything happen, 33 points so thankfully no cut, no blanks on the card and I scrambled well after being in some serious trouble. Its a frustrating game.

Still don't know what to make of today's round. My first stableford counting competition so good to get it under the belt.
A disgusting, yet encouraging, 29points off 17 in Grange Castle.

Got off to a horrible start.
    8 points after 7 holes (3 scratches)

Went +2 for the next 7 holes.
    Was flying high after that.

Poor tee off 15, had to hit from other fairway, ended up not finding my approach shot to the green, hit it sweetly too, must have got a rotten kick.
Lost ball & lost the head.
Only 2 points on the final 4 holes to finish as I started.

Apologies to playing partner SpaceC, not the best company today, between being in the dumps, the zone, then the dumps again.

Nothing to apologise for AJ, everyone has a bad run of holes once in a while, you played 9-14 superbly, so you've got the game to get down definitely. As u said, bit of bad luck with the lost ball which spoiled your rhythm.

As to my own game, its finally starting to get back on track.

86 strokes for 34 points today so first buffer hit since last lesson, and with only about 3.5hrs of sleep so decent result.

    Driving - average
    Fairway/hybrids - excellent
    Irons - average
    Chipping - good
    Lag Putting - improving
    Holing out - poor

Let slip some good positions and finished with a lip out eagle putt on the last.

If I can get the putting numbers down to about 30-32 putts the cuts will start to come.

Overall relatively happy with my game today
