Yet another disappointing day on the course. 31 points off 15. My steady decline has finally cost me. Now officially a 16 handicapper. Just had a look at my stats. The last time I was cut was 12th June 2012, almost a year ago :(

The only positive is that I have started with lessons, need to be patient but not helping me feel too great today ....

Match Play Qualifier today in Tullamore. Also my first strokeplay of the year. Happy overall, 70 Nett so I should qualify. A 6 on the 4th hole came from a very poor second shot when I tried to lay up. Birdied 7 and missed a 4 footer for birdie on 8. Should really have been 3 shots better after 9. Flushed a 4 iron on the 12 that just went over the back and trickled into a bunker on the down and side slop, very unlucky to finish where I did. 3 putted when I did make it onto the green. Delighted how I reacted though, Missed a 10 footer for birdie on the 17th after hitting a great 5 iron straight at the hole.

Back out for the Monday Open tomorrow so hoping I can build on todays play.

Net 70 this morning off blue tees, playing off 23. 8 over for first nine and flying, then a few nightmares on back nine and some badly missed short putts . Happy enough getting to grips with strokeplay from the long tees

75(+2) for a 71 nett round the home track. played nicely enough except for a couple of silly 3 putts but cant blame the greens, they were as good as ive ever seen them. the 3 or 4 topdressings they gave them over the winter is really paying off now...

32pts in Moate this morning and played a bit better than I have been doing recently. Another disastrous tussle lost with a bunker on 16th which is fast becoming my bogey hole. Used to be the 7th now it's the 16th. There's always one isnt there.

35pt off 19 Hcap around Grange Castle today. Scratched two holes and lost 3 balls (2 in the water on the dogleg 4th Jaysus I hate that hole) I putted very well again this week and this helped with 8 pars gained during the round. This is giving me some great confidence ahead of my first round matchplay on Thursday.

Have to say no matter the scoring it was a fantastic day for golf with the weather. Hopefully the summer is finally here.

7 is a much tougher hole than 16 so its good to have that one sorted. :)

A bad day at the office. 30 points off 18 in the GVM at Ballykisteen today from the blue tees. Disastrous 11 points on the front 9, got a bit better on the back 9 with 19.

Won the honorary secretaries prize in the club today. Had a gross 80. Net 66. Had a very solid day. Was +1 on the back nine. Got cut down to 10.7 so delighted.

90 strokes in Intermediate Scratch Cup today off blues. Nett 74. Poor front nine, had good back nine. Birdied both par 3's on back nine which perked me up and hopefully will avoid 0.1 back.

How did you get on in match play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭LinksLad

V-Par off the back tees -

    Out: L W W W H H W W H = 4 Up
    In : H W L W H H L H L = 1 Down

Finished 3 up overall, but coulda, shoulda, woulda on the back 9.

Hopefully enough to get H'Cap down a shot from 21.2, though, so I'll take it.

Got a walkover. Just as well he didn't see how bad I played!

Jeez, just did a tot up from my round on Sunday, and I had 39 putts, so pretty happy to have gotten out of there with 34 points.

Didn't realise I'd had that many 3 putts (6 of them  ), thats far too costly. And to think I thought my putting wasn't that bad coming off the course.

A case of what might have been yesterday in Waterrock, the most beautiful day for golf on a very well cared for course(perhaps some bad pin positions) Finished up with 99 strokes and 31pts off 24, had 44 strokes and 20pts through 9 holes:rolleyes:. Ah well can't wait until next week.

75 gross around Lucan off 3 yesterday.

Not bad but left an awful lot out there unfortunately. Was confident going in after a decent round on Friday that got me cut back to 3, and the weather was to die for, absolutely beautiful and very warm by the afternoon.

Everything was going to plan too; I was a comfortable -1 after 6 holes (not the first time I've found myself on that figure after the same number of holes...) but let it all go with a run of bogies from the 7th. Poor tee shot there cost me a dropped shot, then I hit literally my only bad drive of the day off the 8th (with a 3 wood no less), which cost me another shot. Horrendous sand wedge second into the 9th meant 3 bogies on the trot, and another awful second on 10 was only offset with a 12 foot par putt.

It was comfortably the longest putt I made all day, and another bogey on 11 left me at +3 for the day, and substantially demoralised. Continued to drive the ball into perfect spots but approach play and short game let me down badly. A flared 5 iron on 14 cost me another shot, before I parred 15 and 16. A birdie at 17 offered some consolation, but I gave that back on the last after a lousy break from the tee. 18 has become a seriously difficult hole of late, and playing back into whatever slight breeze there was yesterday, a par 5 is never an unwelcome figure. It was beyond me yesterday though, when my backswing was hampered by a tree, despite only being 3 yards left of the fairway. Oh well, it's brutal but it's the same for everyone.

Nonetheless, I was comfortably in the buffer zone, and there were other positives. Was really delighted with my driving, which has been much improved since the start of this year. If I keep that up, there should be a decent score on the horizon!

38 Points and 78 Strokes off 10 in Tullamore today in the Monday Open.

    GOLFSHOT6_zps35a896f8.png

    7/13 Fairways
    9/18 Greens
    31 Putts

    2 Birdies
    9 Pars

Can't really complain, had a bad start and a bad finish, definitely a few positives. Open Week starting on Friday so I feel I'm ready for a few good scores.

You can get away with that when you've got eagle putts ;):D

Totted up my putts, incredibly happy with the total... No chips in but a lot of no putts... That's what happens when the ball is in your pocket before you get to the green :o

Had 39 points yesterday off 14. 42 won it. Didn't win a prize and didn't get cut as it was a non-qualifying comp, very frustrating.

I'll put the blame on the 3rd member of our group, commented on how well I was putting on the 6th green, followed up with 3 putts on the 7th & 9th!!!
He put a curse on me by mentioning it at all

71 strokes to win the Gross Prize in Lucan on Friday.

Played in a 4 man scramble on Saturday with three counting drives. We managed 12 birdies and 6 pars which gave us a score of 54.9. Walked in to the clubhouse to hear that there was a 54.8 in. Managed to get second. Very enjoyable weekend of golf

93 strokes off 15 in our monthly medal on Sunday - 50 going out (with a 10 on a par 5 after getting to lay up distance in 2:eek:) and 43 coming back. 35 putts including 3 3-putts. At least salvaged some pride on the back 9 but my iron play was appalling, lost count of the number I knocked down. Plus it was the calmest day I can ever remember in moyvalley so can't blame the wind!

79 Strokes for 37 Points off 10. Should be down to 9 now after that. Again I failed to hit a single good long iron. Putter was on fire from 10ft and in, long putts were very poor, left myself with about six 10 footers back to save pars but I holed them all. No 3 putts. Pretty strange that I found 8 bunkers during my round too, 7 on the front 9, that must be a record. Happy enough, scraped my way around but my short game was pretty neat all day.

    4/13 FIR
    7/18 GIR
    33 Putts

    10 Pars
    7 Bogeys
    1 Double

Great score after just hitting 4 fairways. Rough light?

No the rough was at a decent length, I missed the fairways in the right places on most holes luckily enough.

94 strokes off 17 in the monthly medal. Actually starting to strike the ball well again, so would hope to break 90 soon!

was thinking something similar and then he said 7 bunkers on the front 9. You definitely hit the bunker left of the third off the tee didnt you ? :)

    Tullamore I presume ?

I did. Hacked out as far as I could and then found another bunker with a pw on my 3rd shot.

Had 36 points yesterday in my home course. Had 21 points after 9 and flying it. Couple of bad bunker shots cost me dearly on the back 9.
