    Riyadh covered Breakfast this morning.

Also, Dara's off all this week so the fantastic pairing of Brian and Lauren are re-united!This also means the return of The Other Story!!:) Tonight's was brilliant but the Margaret Thatcher joke at the end was a bit much...
Still, I love this feature, it's on every night at 7:45.

I don't mind the station when it plays music ..but God I hate spin talk

I listen to radio a lot, I was listening Saturday evening and I was really impressed with it.
Sun was shining, music was up in my car, I was happy :) Great music, the DJ sounded brilliant too didn't catch his name .. oops.. about 7.30pm?

Heard it Sunday too on the way home - the afternoons sounded good. music was so fresh. djs sounded upbeat... much better than 2fm and the locals down here I think.

Haha Brian and Lauren are testing Nick K in a few minutes to see if he's an actual Aussie!! This should be good.....
    .... :)

Becki and Dara were back on their respective shows on Wednesday.

Lauren Kelly covered Dara on the Zoo Crew while Paul Bonass (last Wednesday and Thursday), Martin Guilfoyle (Sunday) and Nick K (Monday & Tuesday) did TRL.

Gotta say that SPIN 1038's playlist is particularly good at the moment. I love the way they play some alternative tracks which wouldn't usually be played on CHR stations like it. It makes for a far more interesting listen and the variety of music makes it stand out.

Spin SW is really growing on me, which is odd considering I'm getting further and further away from their demographic by the day. :P

Generally listen to the Zoo Crew on Fridays and then on and off over the weekend and they're streets ahead of other stations at those times IMO. It's not groundbreaking radio, but it's entertaining which is all that matters at the end of the day.

I know they (rightly at times) get a lot of stick for playing the same songs ad-nauseum, but, just listening to the Zoo Crew and weekend stuff, that doesn't really become an issue. Might be a different story if I was listening to their weekday daytime output.

They develop full-on obsessions with certain songs and it can become unbearable hearing them when you tune in but they offer a better variety than stations like Capital.

Nice to hear Zedd, MKTO, OneRepublic/Alesso, Martin Solveig, Carly Rae Jepsen, Bastille, Demi Lovato, Kodaline and Austin Mahone.

This. Plus in a years time one of the above mentioned tracks may make an appearance at a random time when you're not expecting it. That makes great radio. You won't hear Beat/Red picking one of those tracks out at random

Comparing those songs to Beat, at present
Zedd, MKTO, Bastille, Demi Lovato and Kodaline are in their main playlist
Alesso vs OneRepublic, Carly Rae, Demi Lovato are in their evening playlist
The other songs haven't made an appearence (yet)

Any station that runs RCS and Selector their song's are picked for them.

We're talking about the playlisting of songs, though, rather than how they're played.

Elsewhere, Brian and Dara's BIG Oxegen announcement was a bit of a let down for a lot of people. I think Coldplay, Beyonce, Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys set the bar extremely high but it's clear which genre direction Oxegen is heading in. Personally, I think it's a fantastic line-up for a dance festival.

Also, surprise, surprise Becki's off so Paul Bonass is sitting in for her on TRL for the rest of the week.

Well again that's to do with the computer system that picks them all rotation but I do agree them keep certain songs in high rotation for too long.

I'd say there is actually something genuinely wrong at this stage, nobody has that about of holidays.

But they have playlist meetings to decide which songs get played. That's what Shona Ryan's job is.

Yeah, Brian and Dara said at the end of their show that she's dying and they've seen her reading the bible around the office :) They always joke about how much time she has off.
Becki's really grown on me in the last few months, her style is much more relaxed and natutal and she does a great job on the show but seriously, she must have pics of the boss in a compromising position or something... She's in France this week and according to her Twitter, she's won a trip to Canada so this won't be the end of her time off

    I have to agree.
For a station that gets a lot of grief, the talent there sometimes goes unnoticed. I listen to The Zoo Crew, on Fridays too (sadly not possible for me to hear it all week) when driving, might hear some weekend shows sometimes. It sounds like fun radio. Music is really good (I like it anyway).
Irish radio is actually awful lately. Credit where it's due. x

Nick is in for Brendan now on SPIN Hits and he covered for Riyadh who was in for Shona yesterday.

Just heard some of Tracy Cliffords documentary and I must say it was brilliant. I always look forward to bank-holidays on SPIN 1038, they always deliver with their documentaries. Thumbs up Tracy :)

Brendan was the only one who did his own show today.

Nick covered Riyadh on Saturday Breakfast who was in turn covering Sarina on Plan B. Martin was in for Shona on SPIN Hits and right now, Paul is doing The Big Handbag (Manbag).

Quite a big technical fault at the changeover between Martin and Paul. I was watching SPIN TV and as soon as Martin finished up, a trailer came on and instead of ads playing, the opener for The Big Handbag came on. Surprised and bemused, Paul then sprinted, got on the headphones and did the opening link but the ads which never came on then played over half of Titanium, drowning it out. it sounded like a complete mess but eventually, Paul fixed it by playing around with all sorts of buttons and after three songs, he played the ads out and kind of re-started the show. Weird how they have these technical faults now and again. You'd think they would have been eradicated.

    ^ Definately weird alright :)

They are definately having technical problems. I can't stream Spin here but can stream everything else. I'm using the tunein app so maybe the stream link got changed.

This has been happening over the last two weeks. Anyone else experiencing this?

Is it just me or are a few album versions of songs making it on to the radio lately, blurred lines by Robin thicke and pinks new song with lilly Allen spring to mind. Since when are the words a**hole and n**ga, allowed on the radio. BBC r1 have a clean version of blurred lines, do Ireland have more relaxed laws?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68 ✭✭Travismccoy

Very good point, there's no need for crass versions on air.

I've no problem with them personally, I actually prefer unedited versions of songs. Just thought it was weird that they were getting played. 98fm is playing the same version of blurred lines but they're both owned by communicorp so they probably get their music from the same source.

Looks like Spin SW has had a reshuffle of presenters...

Seems that Alan is gone off Spin Talk, replaced by Nessa Harney.

Antoinette from the Zoo Crew has replaced Nessa on TRL.

Sheena Faughnan (never heard of her 'til now) has benefited the most from the change though, going from being on Saturday brekkie to replacing Antoinette on the Zoo Crew.

I also remember there being someone called Orla on the weekend schedule... By the looks of things, she's also gone.

    New schedule is here

Paul Bonass did SPIN Hits on Saturday afternoon instead of Shona and today, It was Nick in for Brendan on SPIN Hits because the latter was doing the Hit 30 Chart Show.

SPIN 1038 looking for new production manager as their current, Lisa Dignam moves to2FM. Hopefully they'll allow her free reign to sort out that stations imaging too. Her work sounds brilliant.
