    Jesus, it's awful. We've a lot of close family in Boston, so were particularly worried when the reports started coming in. It's probably the friendliest place I've been to, horrible to see the footage.

    It's a miracle so few people have been killed, I just hope that figure doesn't rise much higher.

    BBC are different. They're a national broadcaster unreliant on ad revenue - whereas Sky and other networks would be.

    I can tell you from experience it is not a pleasent experience - I was in the air just about the time that Bush decided to bomb Afghanistan, we were one of the last aircraft near that airspace. Saw it on the screen on CNN seeing that he had started on 7 October.

    Lot of people offering their homes to those stranded in Boston

    i disagree
    an 80 year old has had a good innings, whereas an 8y year old has their whole like stolen from them.
    not comparable at all imo.

    Not necessarily.
    Two or three small devices hidden in a thermos flask or water bottle, is pretty easy to a determined individual.

    You said it, we're all too desensitized to news of bombing incidents. That photo, while horrific, helps bring home the awful carnage inflicted by bombs.

    I just hope the guy survived, of course his life will be different but no less worth living because of it!!

    Heard that the figure was much higher, around 60 or 70, hopefully your report is more accurate. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more fatalities from it - though if someone was looking to do more damage, they'd have both of the bombs much closer together, so that when people went in to help those injured in the first one would be caught in the second one.

    Latest casualty toll is 2 dead, 105 injured, 15 critically

    Would imagine that is what they actually planned, people running from the first explosion, get caught in the second. Was that not the tactic (for lack of a better word) in the Dublin bombings ?

    The explosives had to have been packed with something like ball bearings to cause vicious injuries like that.
