I don't believe they are locked. Has their bloatware though.

You can unlock via my Vodafone website too .

I am loving this phone - have it set up as a remote to my Samsung tv, freesat and the volume buttons turn up and down the volume on the amplifier for my sound system!

Anyone know if there is any way to change the AccuWeather app from monochrome to colour?

Even sunny days look dull in monochrome!!

Ok not being a dick but I've asked twice for details of what I need to post to help others in finding out what is a good batch and whats not and got nothing back so I'm pleading for the sake of everyone who has a good or a bad HTC One to take a look at the thread below on serial numbering of the phones and faults associated with them and post your serial numbers and a bullet point list of faults with your unit (or if its perfect please say so). Its a €600 phone and everyone is entitled to good product.

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209277

    Mine is

    FA33CW = 2013 March 12th (FA = possibly Argentinian origin)
    • raised screen at top lower at bottom
    • front fascia lower than polycarbonate center piece = sharp ridges at base and exposed polycarbonate ridge at top
    • poor battery performance, 6hrs light usage (15mins calls, blinkfeed 30mins, music playback 1hr, 5 email addresses in HTC Mail app being checked till 10%)
    • power button rocks side to side (I don't know if this by design or not)
    • stuck pixel near top of screen
    • poor finishing on inside of 3.5mm jack

Also please check what panel is being used in your phone and tell the rest of us. Thread is here for the how to and more importantly the why as they vary wildly in brightness, contrast and maybe quality. I used Firefox on the One to open the "last_kmsg" file with the info needed and then used the find in page function to check (the Opera browser crapped itself trying to do this)

you'd probably get a better response on a thread of its own.
Maybe "HTC One faults thread" and people can post what you suggested there. If its in this thread, might be very hard for you to keep track of

Very true, thanks for the suggestion. I'll leave the post above up so the Megathread subscribers see it and leave it up to the mods to decide if that post or the separate thread on faults should be deleted (as they merged One threads to make this Megathread already).

I normally try to avoid taking part in any discussions regarding any flaws with a phone in early batches. Usually it starts off with one person who gets a bad device, who then proceeds to look for any possible defect they can find. Even bad battery life inevitably gets linked.

This then spreads like wildfire to other people who start to look for flaws they wouldn't have otherwise noticed, and we begin the downward spiral.

I've seen it happen with every device I've owned, and I'm sure it will happen with every device I own in the future.

After two weeks with the device, I'm really happy. I have a couple of the flaws noted further up in the thread, but nothing major. Battery life is good, am enjoying the custom ROMs and have found some of the new features such as Zoe and IR blaster to be really useful.

People may be wary of posting their phone's serial number to a public board. Not unreasonably.

The speakers on the one are huge but in terms of sound I didn't find much difference between it and my s3.
I had the use of the phone for the day yesterday.

The sound quality of the one was better but didn't find it that much louder.

Battery life is about the same as my s3 which is kinda disappointing as I was hoping for improved battery life from a new phone.

Phone feels fantastic though, but it does get quite hot after a while.

Can get this phone at a decent price, but trying to decide if I should wait a few months and see what else is released.

The first 6 characters of the serial are all that is needed (like mine above FA33CW only show the date it was made and which country). It doesn't disclose any else about the phone and can't be used by anybody for anything nasty. The guys on XDA Developers wouldn't post anything that could be mis-used.

With respect not discussing why/how a new device may be faulty, especially when we are dealing with a device which needs to so carefully constructed and the manufacturer is under time constraints doesn't help the guys who are paying for it. We do need to be able to guide others in general performance issues that can affect Android such as rogue apps etc so your right in making sure it doesn't turn into a One battering exercise. I've had very few devices which have serious flaws (and I'm gadget freak). Those that have had flaws need to be dealt with and many end up thinking "ah sure thats just th way it is" which its not.

I'm comparing my battery life to those of another HTC One user I work with who has fantastic battery life and the cpu/ram usage etc seemed comparable. His build quality was clearly superior to mine. I will need to get his serial number etc to check the batch but he's off this week.

This is a very special phone but its also requires level of precision and care in its build most others don't due to the materials used. The issues are not imaginary, they are now well documented on XDA Developers so I'm trying to find out for others which networks are getting which batches of phones and if they will need to check it individually before buying.

They're also silly money. I'm happy to pay for a superior phone, but it has to /be/ superior.

I've themed the weather forecast icons. It's not the best, will probably change it later. Still not as dreary as it was. Of course you need to be rooted to be able to flash the zip.

OK, well in that case use a clock/weather widget like HD widgets or Beautiful Widgets. The weather animations etc. are very nicel.

HTC listened to everyone and lightened up everything, simplified it. To be honest, I preferred it when you could personalise with skins, enjoy really nice animations, more widgets etc.

I don't think you can replace the weather widget on the home screen though.

Well not if you have blinkfeed as your homescreen, but if you use another screen as your homescreen, you can have it however you want. This is my set up.....sorry for the big pictures!

Looks nice!!! One thing i dislike is why do HTC not allow you to put the battery % in the battery icon? I downloaded "power toggles" as someone here suggested and its great but it just seems strange they dont implement something thats already built into android /rant :-)

Also does anyone else get the error message "unable to contact the location service to update your location"? I seem to be getting it a lot at home lately it seems to come and go though its just a bit weird.

As far as rooting goes is it worth it?

They do it to take away attention from battery life.
With the T3 One X after deep sleep the battery indicator takes a while to update so initially it would state there was no drain overnight but after a few mins use it will update and drop 3/4 %.
So it appears you lost 4% after 2 mins when really its over the period the phone was asleep.

They removed screen on time from the Power usage for similar reasons, its not accurate and doesn't tell the true story of whats really draining the battery.

I just ordered mine on the three website

Ok thanks, i'm waiting on meteor to get it back in stock since last week, nowhere has it in stock online sim-free, any idea if the ones from three are network locked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭tvc15

Ordered mine from the three website yesterday, status changed from charged to picked and charged this morning. Hope that means they are in stock and will be delivered this week

Anyone know how long the delivery takes for three?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 407 ✭✭Blinked_Missed It

Owing to eMobiles pathetic returns policy I've just received my jiffy bag to send my faulty HTC One back to them 6 days after its delivery and 6 days after reporting it faulty. Anyone know of a way to backup all data including sms on the One to a PC or mac (preferably a full image to restore to the new One).

I'm using the Otterbox commuter and it's a great case. Not too big but it feels like it could cushion the phone from a considerable drop.
It also gives you a better grip on the phone as I find the metal very slippy.

Just ordered mine form Meteor. The rep said they expect to receive stock in tomorrow. Though he said it would take 3-4 days to deliver. I expect this is him covering himself. He asked me if I'd rather call into store to upgrade it but I went ahead with the over the phone purchase.

Anyway, they had the black option too but I went with silver. They had no 64GB variants.
