While image 4 looks a bit iffy the rest of the phone seems fine....nit picking i tells ya

Yeah it's probably just me being picky. :P On the other hand though, there are problems that aren't nitpicking. The speakers are popping and hissing, the proximity sensor is hit and miss, and the phone overheats very quickly to a point where it's uncomfortable to hold. I've had some charging issues as well.

Bah, I've got the battery dead/won't turn on issue now.

Was at 1%, thought I'd plugged it in in time. It's been on USB charge for about 2 hours now.
    Orange charging light is on.

Holding power button down for a few seconds causes the two soft keys to blink. Pressing the volume up or down key as well doesn't seem to make a difference.

Just plugged it into a socket now to give it more charge.

    Any ideas?

I know they aren't great photos. Image 2 and 3 you can't really see anything, but there is a small dent at the top near the headphone jack. In the first image there is a big enough gap at the speaker grille. It's a bit rough as well, there are bits of aluminium sticking out. The other image shows the volume rocker, it's out of place and feels a bit flimsy.

I had this on One X once. I kept charging and then at some point I tried pressing and holding power, but not just few seconds, I just kept holding it until it rebooted.

Just been on to emobile and their attitude is they've ordered me a jiffy bag (which hasn't arrived yet) for a phone reported faulty 2hrs after it was delivered and others haven't had issues so tough luck. I can't walk into a store with an emobile logo over the door (likely franchised) to replace it or have a replacement sent to a store and have the exchange done there after inspection of the current faulty handset. My contract is to run from the date of delivery of the faulty phone not from the date I may or may not get a functioning phone fit for sale. According to them it takes a week from their receipt of the phone to having another delivered. Bought Wednesday, reported faulty Wednesday, no jiffy bag until at least Monday next, not received by them till next Wednesday then another week for another phone which may or may not be functional out of the box.

Just something to bear in mind is in the delivery box they have sent both a receipt and courtesy thank you letter each detailing the upgrade and returns policy. One states a 7 day return policy, the other 14 days. The 7 day letter makes reference to the fact the policy must be viewed in light of the Sale of Goods acts, the 14 day document makes no reference. There is no joined up thinking here. Both state the phone must be unused. If a product is not of merchantable quality and suffering from inherent manufacturing defects this policy has no relevance. Speaking as a paying consumer eMobiles attitude is as joined up as their returns policy.

Try a hard reset by holding down the lock button a volume down simultaneously.

    Two questions re charging.

Has anyone tried charging it off a USB port? I do it in work, and it takes a good 7 hour so hours to fully charge, seems to be a whopper of a phone to charge!

Does anyone have issues with taking the charger out? At time, it feels almost glued in its that stubborn.

Held power key for ages, soft keys just keep flashing.
    Volume buttons make no difference.

Not sure if it is actually charging - there's an orange led on constantly (3rd hole bottom row of the top speaker grille) whether it's plugged in or not.

There's obviously some level of power in it, given it can flash the keys. Though obviously may not be enough to boot.

Sorry, its not clear in your post if you tried what was suggested.

Hold down the down volume button for 3 seconds, then while holding it hold down the power button for around 10 seconds. That should force it into a low boot.

Seperately, if you unplug it and try turn it on, what happens?

    Huh! That did it!

Sorry, I'd already tried holding the power key while holding the volume down button, and it was still just causing the soft keys to flash.
Didn't realise I needed to hold the volume down button for a few seconds first.

Did what you suggested, that orange led went out. Held power button down again, nothing happened, but the next time I tried it booted as normal.

Battery is at 70% having been plugged in for a few hours, so obviously the battery fully discharging causes it some kind of problem.

    Thanks for that!

Exactly the issue on mine, slight overhang on bottom speaker grille. I noticed it early on but didn't really mind, until I pulled it out of my pocket this morning and it got caught with a loose thread in my pocket. I reckon if they're all like this then fine, but if I'm one of a few, I might seek to replace it.

I'd return that..no way would I be happy with that on a premium smartphone.

My battery monitor app is showing an average charge time of 3:41 on AC, and 8:19 on USB.

Those would be fairly well overstated though, as I've been playing games a few times while it was plugged in which would be draining the battery faster than the USB is charging it, and probably extending the AC charge time too.

Haven't found any great difficulty removing the charger though.

Bit early for smartphone of the year.
Definitely be a contender, but there's a lot of phones to be released yet.

Honestly get it back to them ASAP. HTC are advertising this phone as having "zero gap" construction and had they been checked at all leaving the factory they wouldn't have passed Q&A. The other way it could happen is they were Q&A'd and HTC are so desperate to get them out the door its been decided to release and replace when complaints arise. I bought mine on the strength of HTC's construction claims compared to the S4 so its just not what we are paying for.

a couple of questions for a HTC One owner (i hope to be one soon...stock issues although it might work in my advantage if I wait an extra month as Im seeing a lot of issues with the initial batch)

What is the battery time like, Im just getting a day out of my iPhone 5 so I would be happy with that.
Is it very large in your hand....no naughty jokes plz
what are the supplied headphones like
what is the shell like...will it scratch/chip easily
    any OS issue

    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭jones

My battery life is best i've had in a smartphone easily gets a day out of it and thats with a good bit of "i've a new phone and cant stop thinkering with it" buzz

I dont think its large at all...i'm coming from samsung S2 so comparable in size to the iphone 5

Supplied headphone are grand i wouldn't say they are amazing or anything but as headphones go no complaints

I had heard the black HTC one was prone to scratches as its just the silver one with a coat of black on it but with my silver HTC i've had no issues any apparent scratch rub off handily enough.

As for OS, in my opinion, jelly bean > IOS6 (coming from someone who runs both i've an ipad 3 and obviously an android phone) Jelly bean on the HTC one is super smooth and looks amazing.

    hope that helps

Just to follow up the one negative i have on the phone is i dont like where they positioned the power button and the fact it doesnt really "stick out" as such. It can be hard to access one handed on a large phone but hey you cant have everything. :-)

Best phone on the market IMHO

HTC's materials are usually great but their QA has always been lousy, I'm surprised that they still haven't raised their game given the trouble they are in.

Definitely a bit ott, the One X, iPhone 5 suffered from similar issues and the Nexus 7 had an horrendous launch.

These problems will always occur if you decide to adopt early.

So basically if you decide to essentially beta test for these companies your probably going to have to return 1 or 2 before you get that flawless device.

From what's been posted the newest batch seems to have corrected these issues (fingers crossed).

I wouldn't say ott with respect. Completely agree there have been several high profile phones launched with serous issues (as Apple tells the world "Your holding it wrong" with the iphone 4) but this is HTC's Hail Mary as 1 review put it so they need to keep there act together. They have produced a fantastic device but it would be a horrific shame if they lost their battle to come back due to shoddy Q&A. I don't want to read about HTC in a geeks tech journal in 10 yrs of companies that fell at the last hurdle.

I'd be very worried of leaving the market pretty much in a 2 way battle of Samsung and Apple or even a takeover and stripdown of HTC's tech & patents.

I think everyone here just wants this phone to win and win big. And those with dodgy units just want non-dodgy units that show off what HTC can really do.

Can someone tell me how I identify the batch mine is from to see if its the latest to help others judge when and where to buy it?

I agree wholeheartedly but there is a bottom line.
They delayed the because of qc and component shortages so assuming that issues have been sorted realistically it would only have launched here this week making it a whole month late from the expected March 15 realese date.

Sometimes you just have to ship the product most of the issues arnt deal breakers after all and nobody should be denied their refund.

I've been an early adopter many times, usually on preorder, so first batches: HTC Desire Z, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC One X, HTC One - all of those I got from Clove.co.uk on preorder and never had a need to replace. I don't know if different vendors get different batches (can there be a better tested batch destined for premium partners?) or maybe I was just getting lucky so far.
