10 SPIN Hits In The Mix is pre-loaded as a whole file into the playout system before the show and then I would assume the presenter is given the intro and outro cues to talk-over.

You're not mistaken .. It was Michael Brett. Am hearing some interesting names being linked with the position...

It's definately not played out "normally" anyway cause the song names don't show up on the radio screen via the stream when 10 in the mix is on..

Do the DJs get any choice over the 10 in the Mix tunes or is that fully playlisted too?

(I noticed on the Spin SW site the names of the songs don't show while Nikki Hayes is on, I assume due to the networking and it's played out from Dublin and delivered down by ISDN or whatever?)

You can feel free to believe whatever you like :)

You clearly don't know me, which is fine. If you did, you'd know that I have been involved in radio for a while and I know plenty of people in it... and yes I have heard some interesting names being linked to the job, one in particular whom I really hope gets it.

Yeah, seriously what a stupid statement to come out with...You know no more than anyone else.

    Stop spreading rumours you fool!

Seriously? Your first post and you use it to abuse me?

Clearly I DO know more than some people. I know people in the business who are applying for the job. It wouldn't be very nice of me to actually name them on a public site without their permission though, would it?

Oh and what rumours exactly have I spread, anyway?

Hate to break it to you but answering phones for Niall Boylan is hardly going to make you an industry insider and just because you know of people applying for the job it doesn't necessarily mean they have a hope in hell of getting it. Anybody can apply for a job!

Well first off, break whatever you like to me... I've got nothing to do with Niall Boylan's show.

Secondly no - not just anyone will be applying for that job. The requirements are very specific, particularly regarding the length of the time applicants need to have been in a successful radio programming position.

Do people really have to be so cynical & ignorant and call my credibility or credentials into question just because I say I've heard a couple of very interesting names linked with the job?

Totally agree with Bard on this. There are plenty of anoraks on here who love radio but arent actually employed in the industry, but equally there are also industry people on here, who based on the intimate nature of the industry need to be careful with information they may know at a given point in time, whether that information ends up being accurate or not.

According to today's Business Post, Eoghan Mc Dermott was scouted by XFM from a PD that had come over from the UK (Having previously been with Global Radio) and went on to direct SPIN 1038....

SPIN is a great station and its a perfect example of a PROPER CHR station/format....

    Watch this space....

That's only in today's paper? I thought it was common knowledge that Andy Ashton who was with global left and came to SPIN and then went back to XFM took McDermott with him.

Actually speaking of Eoghan, looks like he is moving on to bigger and better things. I'm hoping it's the BBC it seems like the next biggest thing after XFM really.

http://www.rte.ie/ten/2013/0223/mcdermotte.html < Interesting read, he said he is moving to another sation on this & he posted a picture of the BBC news studio awhile back too so he may be trying to hint something, or maybe i'm overthinking it :P

Great to hear. His departure from XFM had to mean a move to a bigger station and he is talented enough to fully deserve a high profile slot. I think he is a brilliant presenter so I'm glad he has nearly secured a prolific slot.

I wonder where he is off to. Good spot that he has been hanging around New Broadcasting House in Central London so hopefully he finds himself on the 8th Floor (where Radio 1 is based). He would be perfect on Radio 1 I think but I can't see a place for him in the daytime or weekend daytime schedule unless Dev gets booted off Early Breakfast after all these years and Eoghan takes that slot. He would be a fantastic signing for R1 and he deserves to be on there so I'm holding out hope. His age is also in his favour.

Hahahaha!!! You have nothing to do with Niall Boylan anymore but you once used to. You made a big deal about being a moderator here and being able to maintain a professional stance in relation to negative posts on 4fm.

Your credentials get called into question when you start throwing things around like you've heard some interesting names linked with the job. Why else would you post it on a radio board unless you want someone to take the bait? So leaving your credentials aside, lay it out on the table and start naming names. I doubt you know very much at all!

I think he departed XFM end of 2012, there may have been a period of three months when by mutual agrrement he couldnt sign for another station in the same jurisdiction but that has now lapsed and theres no talk of him signing with anyone else. I may be totally wrong but I think despite his talent he was simply let go by XFM. Hopefully he ends up elsewhere.

Heybaby did you not read the link I posted about his interview with Sinéad Ní Uallacháin.

"Eoghan has been working as a presenter on Xfm in London, but tells Sinéad in the interview that he has just left his job there to move to another station, but he is remaining tight-lipped about the details for now until contracts are signed."

Thats a direct quote from the write-up it looks like he may actually have signed elsewhere, but again I may be wrong too :)

Well it's a long time now since I worked with him and to associate me with him is more than just inaccurate (and a little insulting), but most importantly here, it's irrelevant to a discussion about Spin 1038 - as is my record as a previous moderator of this forum.
Your credentials get called into question when you start throwing things around like you've heard some interesting names linked with the job.

Not throwing anything around, just stating facts. I HAVE heard interesting names linked with the job, one of whom is a good friend of mine whom I really hope gets it. If I wanted to offer more detail than that, I already would have. I don't. Not my problem if you don't believe me.
Why else would you post it on a radio board unless you want someone to take the bait? So leaving your credentials aside, lay it out on the table and start naming names.

It was posted as part of a simple discussion about the PD position. There was no 'bait'. As I already explained, I DON'T intent to name any names without permission just to satisfy anyone's curiosity. It would be unkind and unfair to make that kind of info public.
I doubt you know very much at all!
Oh no! An anonymous randomer on a web site doesn't believe me! Guess how much sleep I'm going to lose over that... :P

COVER OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS : Riyadh did TRL last night, Nick K did Breakfast this morning, Riyadh did the 11:45 slot and Cooper covered SPIN Hits at 2:45.

Sandwiched between Nick and Riyadh this morning at 10:45 was a documentary called "Finding The Body That Fits" about young transgender people in Ireland. I was intrigued that SPIN put this into their schedule because documentaries aren't really an area I expected SPIN to venture into. I listened to it out of interest and it was really well done. It was presented by Ian Byrne from The Story and he followed three trans guys who gave their story and what it means to be transgender and acceptance etc.. I think it is commendable that SPIN are educating their young audience on an issue which needs to be understood and accepted so kudos to them for having the balls to make a documentary which RTE probably wouldn't do.

Was that documentary sponsored? - sounds like a great thing for SPIN to do, but I'd say they did it to prove the credibility of their newsroom and I'd say they're putting it up for a PPI Award for it....

Not quite "sponsored" as such, but it was paid for (€5,000) by the BAI under the Sound & Vision scheme where it was commissioned under the "Contemporary Society" category in July 2012.

I looked at the article alright, it dates from Feb 23rd. Eoghan left XFM at the end of December last year, his departure was part of a raft of changes in recent months at XFM. If he had concrete plans that precipitated his departure in December I think he would have surfaced elsewhere at this point, considering its over 12 weeks since he left XFM. Despite his talent I think XFM just let him go.

I'm curious... who would people like to see replace Michael Brett as PD in Spin 1038 anyway?...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭smurfs5

Ok, I'm sorry but Nick K is my new favourite presenter. Boot either Ryan and Tracy, Brian and Dara, Becki or Steve off and give him a main daytime slot.

He is brilliant. Listen to his latest Soundcloud post from when he covered on SPIN over Easter here, it sounds sooo good: https://soundcloud.com/nick-karkazis

Easily forgiveable that you didn't know they existed as they're only in their second year... congrats on the award!! Nice to see Dermot Hanrahan get a Lifetime Achievement award too :)

I see him as more of a tv presenter rather than radio
