What are your distances? Unless you are *very* short then distance isnt the problem, off 4 you probably know this though!
I played with a +6 handicap who hit the ball the same distance I did pretty much.

Before the changes I probably hit driver about 260 yards in the summer time. Which is grand as long as you dont mind hitting 4iron/5iron or a 5 wood into long par 4's. I play with a lot of friends of mine who play off scratch and they with their great swings knock the drives out to 280 or 290 and are hitting 8/9 iron/wedge in.

At the moment i am hitting the driver about 260 as it is, and that's with the depths of winter in full play. So hopefully with summer time coming in, that gets me up around 280 and more where I want to be.

had a great practice session today and took a few videos. Just need to clean them up a bit and might throw them up for the craic sometime during the week

Wouldnt have said distance was a big issue for you so, consider the PGA stats for driving...
Is that total distance or carry you are measuring? Actually, is it measure distance or how are you calculating it?
How far are you hitting your irons?

    all approximate

    PW - 120 yards
    9 - 135 yards
    8 - 150
    7 - 165
    6 - 175
    5 - 185
    4 - 200
    3 - 210
    5W - 230

short irons would be carry - longer irons would include run. But thats all summer time conditions.

my driving distance was probably fine if i wanted to get a couple of shots lower, just keep really working on the short game, but thats not where I want to stop.

I was following mates of mine around at the west of ireland and the mullingar scratch cup and Im not at the races at all in terms of driving distance and quality of strike/ball flight... If I genuinely wanted to compete at that level changes had to be made.

I'm really happy with the changes I am making. I can see the improvements in a big way, in particular in my short game. Just got to keep at it and I'll get better and better :)

those videos ended up being no good :( - angle was all wrong on the direction I was pointing my phone...you cant see below my knees and there was other various issues, lol

    oh very likely, lol :)

I had a bad day at the office, but still managed to scramble to 28 points for the 15 holes :)

you were heading to the green of the 15th when I was tee'ing off on the 9th. I joined a group of 3 lads i never met before for the round.

Damm 15th, hit the green in 2 and then 3 putted from 3 foot.:mad:

ahhh you were playing with Barry, tom and willie...wasnt it ?

I had 100 metres left to the green on 15 and pulled my second shot 30 yards left of the green, lol. I was furious. Still managed to get up and down for my par though.

3 putt from 3 feet is horrible though :(

On the plus side I was back in with Hugh again yesterday afternoon and he has me really turning through the shot now and transferring weight, feck Im hitting the ball a mile!

Was level par for the 15 holes today for 33 points in the winter league and all, so dead pleased! :D

Hey guys, Just wanted to post my progress videos.
    First is from July 2011.
Around that time i had been playing for few months.so my driving was all over the place.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Yz16t6Z0pA

Second one is of Jan 2013.
Not much of a difference i know but I'm hitting the ball
a lot further and straighter.(most of the time).
I do tend to hit it along ground in front of me sometimes.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

    Sean

Nice improvement Sean, have you got any lessons or worked on anything in particular in between those videos?

Posture looks a lot better and the strengthened of your left arm are the two things that stood out for me (And don't take any advice from me btw :o )

Is your natural shot a fade? Bad shot a slice?
Can't make out for certain, but do you tee it a bit lower than normal?

Ive had a few lessons in the Limerick Area. With some good and some bad advice in there.
One thing i struggle on is head movement.Raising the head to scoop the shot up. A big issue i had was raising my left heel on my back swing (right handed).
A good shot is A fade.
Bad shot would be a Hook.

I normally tee the ball with about 50% of ball over the club when rested on ground.
was a bit low in that video, well spotted.

Thanks ;) it's great to be back hitting balls as been a few years.. I think it was a slight pull alright but striking it pretty well considering..

This fell off the right side of the green. 170 yard par 3.

Failed to get up and down and made 4.

Looking at it I can see a slight cut across the ball which caused the leak right :(

fairplay to you being able to see that looking sideways with your swing at that speed :)

not that you can really tell, but pausing the video frame by frame, it appears that you take it up the inside a little bit [ that's what she said ] on the way back, so maybe you came back through on the inside, which could have also caused it to push right. But absolutely impossible to tell on the angle really :)

It didnt feel a good swing and I did lose it right. I was lucky the ball didnt fall off the edge of the raveen. It would have destroyed a great card on me at that stage.

Was hoping your mate would say "we've been live for a while" and "up see flew" again....
No interest in your swing :D just wanted to hear it again like the last video you posted.

You happy with the changes since last video? I can't tell the difference, but don't take that as an insult... thats just me not being able to pick them up

haha - yeah out with a different fella today. He doesnt know the meme's ;)

The changes would be more significant from side on rather than from behind. Really trying to work on weight transfer at the moment. I am really happy with how the changes are going though. Ball flight is just so sexy right now.

Just an observation, you don't seem to be finishing your backswing and then swinging too hard and losing your balance.
