I found out that the cause of the wastegate rattle is something totally different to what I was led to believe.

    New actuator:

    photorvb.jpg

The problem is that the diaphragm that is housed in the cylindrical part on the left actually collapses and hence doesn't work at all once a vacuum is created. When it works properly, the diaphragm pushes/pulls that rod to open and close the wastegate depending on the revs. When the car is idling, this pushes the wastegate closed up against the seal on the manifold. Because the diaphragm has collapsed, it's not able to push the wastegate closed and the rattling is the wastegate hitting off the seal.

If it doesn't fix it, this only cost about €30 so at least when it's installed, it eliminates itself as the cause.

I also got a brand new shiny gear knob :D

At least BMW sells the wastegate actuator as a seperate part. With VW, you'd have to buy the whole turbo.

My wastegate actuator in the T4 was ceased in close position. So I took the one from the crashed one and swapped that in. Problem solved.

Yeah it's a good thing they are separate but if they were built-in, I'd hope they would have used a better part or part supplier.

The funny thing is that in the US and some cases in the UK, the dealerships replaced the whole turbo/wastegate and manifold to solve this problem but it came back for a lot of people because they were just replaced with the same part which broke down again over time. This continued until 2009 when the part was completely upgraded by the original manufacturer (Mitsubishi). The new one I got is obviously one of those.

Today I found out im getting an "alarm horn h12 000" error, tried to clear it but it looks legit. A quick google suggests the alarm unit itself is fubar. Ill test out "breaking into" the car tomorrow morning and see what's what.

Good to see German quality is based on Japanese engineering. :D

Quality me hole, if these actuators were German, I wouldn't have this problem ;)

If the actuators were German you'd be €300 lighter. :p

Nope, they'd be cheaper ;) The premium is paid for a German car when first purchased and it wasn't me who paid it. Mazda's cars are fairly cheap brand new but they make up the money by selling parts. I'm having a field day when it comes to the price of parts with the 335 compared to the RX8 and MPS.

    The 2 Jap cars were a lot dearer when it came to parts from a dealership. For instance, the gearknob - RX8 - €327 + VAT, MPS - €280 + VAT, 335 - €40 + VAT.

Came back from work at 6pm was emptying the astra out in the garage look to see the passenger rear light half full with water. so took of the light emptied out the water and it is currently drying so ill put it back on tomorrow. no sign of a crack so i don't know how the water is getting in.

p.s does anyone know how to make the photos appear on the post rather than have to open them as an attachment thanks.

What state is the gasket in if there is one? Water runs off the rear windscreen, down into a channel in the bootlid lid gaps and down the bootlid face.

It's after it hits the gap that it will run into the light if it's not secured properly or if the gasket is in sh!t.

Thanks for the help. When I took of the light the gasket seal between the bulbs and the light itself was out of the channel so i put in back in the channel and the seal itself seems ok. Who ever changed a bulb the last time didn't do a great job putting the light back together. Ill let it dry out tonight in the house and fit it again tomorrow and ensure it seals correctly hopefully that will do the trick. The water is only in it the last day or two so hasn't caused any rust damage.

I'd say you'll be fine once you make sure it's all back together again.

It should be ok its only a matter of making sure it seals up correctly. the previous owner was clearly careless.

    You paid near €370 for a gearknob?

I did in me hoop! Those prices are what dealerships are looking for. I got a new one for the RX8 from the US for €115 and I got a new MX5 one for the MPS as it's the exact same thing only the MPS one is heavier but it was a much nicer gear change with the lighter one.

Thank god, I'd have to get you banned if you had...:D

Jesus even €115 for one is unreal cash for a gearknob....:o

And you'd get yourself yet another ban while doing so :P

Yeah it's expensive alright but it's not a generic gearknob at all, it's only on the RX8.

Not too happy with the boot light in the MR2...the filament bulb was worse then useless and the 8SMD LED was pretty poor as well, I'd given up and used my LED torch to find stuff in the boot...then I got a 140 LED strip and soldered on a 501 connector...and at last there was light!

...also the passenger seat is out and the heating pads are fitted...but thats enough for one day. I also want to soundproof under the seats while their out. with some deadening stuff that E39 MSport gave me ages ago.

    LED

@eringobragh - I think that's class. :) Did it take long to set up? Also was it difficult?

    Cheers man

About 10 minutes altogether between soldering the 501, and affixing the led strip to the inside..its essentially plug and play

the 501 connector was a spare I had from the interior dome led light

The strip itself can be gotten here for $5 delivered:

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/261104202154?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

and these sticky clips to attach it:
