fonemenders have gotten a lot of good reviews and i think all the main providers even use them.

LOL? I think its the complete opposite...

had mine replaced at fonemenders in Limerick and very happy with it..paid €180 for the 1hour express service.

However if you're lucky to be living in dublin near Malahide there's a guy on adverts who's doing a great job replacing these for €160 i think..don't know the guy but he's getting great feedback.

you might get a notification saying update available and i think its OTA so i don't think you need to hook it up to a PC unless you want to flash it yourself before release

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭kenyard

Based on the CSC listed - That's a JB build based on the DLI2 release - Which is about 8 releases back on JB..

Check out sammobile.com to see the list...

DLI2 was released on September 5th - Samsung have not yet released the official UK BTU version of JB which is the correct version for Ireland...

just upgraded from the S2 and was wondering there any unbranded JB firmware knocking about?

What is the correct version for Ireland and what have Three just released?

Has anyone else had any issues with vodafone and not getting updates? If I try with kies it says that updating with it is not supported by the device. Got the phone back in July and haven't gotten any updates yet, still don't even have the brightness slider in the notification bar. Not sure why this is, would I just be better off updating it myself with another program or something?

3's OTA update seems to be a quite recent version. 8th of October according to Androidpolice.

Google Now works, not sure if it's any smoother though since Touchwiz covers over stock JB.

It appears to me that what Three Ireland have released is their 1st official JB build, however the CSC file listed (Modem) is from a BETA build DL1 that 1st launched on September 5th.

Essentially the UK BTU builds are the unbranded , International English version of the software...

All the UK/Ireland carriers would base their builds off this - So Three add in their logo at boot-time and pre-install their apps like Planet3 etc.

I'm currently running the latest UK BTU build which is

    PDA: I9300XXDLI8
    CSC: I9300OXADLI8
    Version: 4.1.1
    Date: 2012-09-16
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom.

What Three Ireland have just launched is

    PDA: I9300XXDLJ1
    CSC: I93003IEDLI2
    Version: 4.1.1
    Date: 2012-10-10
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom

Based on the info above (highlighted in bold) , Three Ireland are using an older modem file in their 1st official release..

Interestingly... Three UK are using a more recent CSC in their build they launched today

    PDA: I9300XXDLJ1
    CSC: I9300H3GDLJ1
    Version: 4.1.1
    Date: 2012-10-09
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom

Bottom line - If you want to stay Official , then the OTA build that came from Three is the way to go...

Personally , I'm going to wait for the official UK BTU release that should hopefully be coming in the next few days...

Yes , but the CSC , which is the modem is DLI2

Type *#*#44336#*#* into the keypad and it'll show you this information

That didn't work, but I tried *#1234# instead

    CSC is indeed DLI2.

Yes, I picked it up only last week!

    It's a fantastic case & isn't bulky at all!

    I'm delighted with it.

Had the same on my Desire HD & loved it but that one was definitely bulkier than the S3 version.

    They've obviously refined it somewhat!

Absolutely recommend it for the S3.:)

Edit: that video you linked to is not the case in the Amazon link!

(I have the one from Amazon)

    Hi all,
For anyone that was unlocked unofficially and then got the JB update has it re-locked the phone again do you know?

    Cheers,
    M

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭kenyard

afaik that happened all people who unofficially unlocked alright. maybe it was carrier specific.
should be a simple re-root and fix anyway

    Hi Guys,

I'm on Vodafone with the SII and due an upgrade to the SIII.

Can anyone confirm the best value network/option to go with?

I'm a fairly heavy phone user so VF's 500 minutes on top of free VF to VF calls isn't great for me. I also travel overseas a good bit so any network with special roaming rates (particularly for data) would be ideal.

    All suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Ben

from what i understood vodafone were the best out foreign for everything.
data abroad is a joke.. you dont wanna even ask about pricing. trust me :P
maybe some network does addons for out of country,
best bet is probably buy it unlocked and get a sim card for the country you go to on prepay!

Going to San Francisco for about a month next week lads and am currently on Vodafone here. Rang them and they don't do any bolt on data bundles so am wondering for over there what is the best thing to do as I really need data when out and about. Anyone any experiences with the US networks and short term stays etc.??

    Cheers,
    M

The best thing is to buy a sim-card out there - Works out WAY cheaper..

If your handset is unlocked - Buy a T-Mobile Pay as you Go sim and get the €50/month option..

That gives you unlimited data , unlimited US National/Mobile calls and unlimited Global SMS.

For another €10 you get unlimited International land-line calls...

$60 all-in vs. ~€1.90 a min for voice and gods know what per mb for data...

I travel to the US regularly and this is what I do all the time
