    Found the issue here:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760683&page=3

In for "repair" with carphonewarehouse for my troubles.

Battery in GS3 isnt bad, your probably tinkering alot with it as you would on your first days... see how it pans out.

    However one quick win

Dont use Power Saving mode... I found it worse then normal mode :P

S3 battery life isn't great by any standards unless your a light user that whole crap about bigger battery being able to power your phone was marketing crap.

Just keep Wifi data and bt as much as you can. Screen brightness down to lowest too.

with tinkering i was able to get the phone down to around 1% usage on standby per hour with no data/wifi on
2% with wifi, 3-4% with data.
all in all thats 100 standby hours which is good. iv easily gotten 3 days out of it before, but jellybean update wiped around 20% off longevity.
running custom roms atm, so cant comment on it atm. generally i still charge it daily though, but have easily stretched it to 2 days when needed, albeit from morning on first day to night on second, so more like 40hrs

It's actually the first phone I had to resort to getting an extended battery. I do use it a lot though, sometimes I would have 5% left by 6PM and that would usually have Wifi BT constantly being of and data on only when I need it.

Now I would get 50% by 6PM no need to switch off data all the time and I can ramp up the screen brightness to 75%

I have also noticed that's its using a lot more data than my Titan ever did. When I go into data usage tracker it says the browser uses the most data. I'm struggling with 1GB of data.

I use WiFi as much as I can and always when I'm home.

    @evolutionqy7

your battery life doesnt sound right at all, I use my phone constantly in work with Wi-Fi\data on all the time with full screen brightness, then watch a TV show going to work and back, have at least 30-35% left when I get home

Have you tried running better battery stats

it will log what's using your battery, as there must be something thats using your battery in the background

I just look at the battery stats in the settings.

That's usually the average usage. Screen takes up the most

Screen on time is 1h 43 mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭kenyard

better battery stats does much more. it shows what is causing the phone to run when you arent using it (partial wakelocks)

either way 50% battery usage from screen is heavy. you set to auto or high brightness? tbh the screen is big and i have noticed using it you can almost see the battery % dropping as you are doing so.

p.s from those numbers you spend 25-30% of your time on your phone, or with the screen on at least. understandable if you use it work work or whatever i guess... just seems high to me

Majority is just browsing the net. I listen to music for about 30-45 mins in the morning and same in the evening when I walk home.

As I said the battery usage for me isnt the best, hence why I resorted to getting an extended battery. Now its perfect, just the device isnt the most comfortable to hold.

just looking at my own power consumption, my cell standby is at 24% any idea what i can do to reduce this?

I'd check to see if you can update the version of android on the phone as it seems to be a known bug and should have been patched in the last 2ish months. My sister had it too and updating about two weeks ago sorted it for her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,539 ✭✭✭Icyseanfitz

tried to update but it keeps saying nothing found, strange because from reading stuff on the web i know the version i have (4.0.4) is not the latest version of android

You should be able to upgrade to jelly bean. Try plugging it into kies ota upgrade doesn't work.

tried with kios as well but its saying its up to date  its locked to three so would they have pulled the update for any reason?

They've been having mega-issues with their Jellybean update (data connection dies and requires a complete power cycle of the phone for it to return, only for it to just die again soon after), wouldn't be surprised if they'd pulled it until they have a fix.

yeah the lads over in three forum told me they pulled it due to the data problems, il be checking on here before i do any updating from now on

i just checked mine. 31% down in 13hrs, with android os used 24%, 17% screen, 15% wifi (was on for around 11hrs), mobile standby 11%. (equating to ~2 days so as anticipated at mediocre usage)
    data eats more ofc.

tbh thats 11% of 31% so like 3.5% usage in standby over 13hrs which isnt bad. . partial wakelocks were minimal.

your cell standby being so high cud be either a display bug (there was one i remember very early when i had the phone, it was just a display issue rather than drainage) or besides that its more to do with switching networks again due to three, i know i also read somewhere that swapping lots between 2g and 3g causes battery drain, i dont know why...and three do have that problem. afaik it was also on one of the iphones even.

Sorry to be dragging people off topic.

I was just wondering does anyone know who to turn off the chat option in Facebook?

I sometimes like to log in without being available to chat all the time and I can't find the option to turn it off

    Thanks in advance.

Not complaining but does anyone out there think that Samsung is leaking these on purpose to us rabbits :-)

A beta programme would be much nicer though

Using the leaked version of 4.1.2 on Omega at the moment. Seems pretty good so far, loving the two screen feature.

Has it improved the battery life at all?

I had 4% drain in ten hours approx. data and wifi off ovrernight and no usage in am.

charging up fully now so if I can ill give an update on drain in a days usage. tomorrow afternoon sometime. either way standby is awesome. repprts on xda suggest 5-7 hrs screen on usage even.

Since updating to jellybean YouTube links from the browser or say Twitter or FB no longer open in the YouTube app.
I get no option to pick between the app or the browser as before and I dont see how fix this, anyone know how?

It's not just YouTube, instagram links used to try open in instagram too but no longer.

YouTube in the browser itself doesn't seem to be working. Displays 0.00/0.01 for the video time.
The one instance it did play and the full screen didn't work properly, the notification bar remained and the screen rotation remained on.

Jellybean has been incredibly frustrating, things seem laggier, keyboard less responsive much preferred my phone last week...
