The best thing is to buy a sim-card out there - Works out WAY cheaper..

If your handset is unlocked - Buy a T-Mobile Pay as you Go sim and get the €50/month option..

That gives you unlimited data , unlimited US National/Mobile calls and unlimited Global SMS.

For another €10 you get unlimited International land-line calls...

$60 all-in vs. ~€1.90 a min for voice and gods know what per mb for data...

I travel to the US regularly and this is what I do all the time

Quin_Dub, that is EXACTLY what I need mate! Thanks so much for the heads up! So just so I am right in my understanding I go over there and into a T-Mobile shop and ask for a Pay As You Go SIM. I then top up by $50 and am then good to go? What happens when I use up the $50? When you say unlimited data is it really all you can eat? I am there from October 31st to December 3rd so will go get it on November 1st and it should be valid until December 1st. I won't have any need to make international calls to be honest but may be handy to receive them. And I go to Vancouver for 4 days which is obviously in Canada so I wonder what the story with the data will be then?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks!

    No problem

Check out the details here on the T-Mobile site

You are actually signing up for a Monthly contract , but they do not set-up any recurring charge so at the end of your 30 days , if you haven't added any more cash , the Sim becomes a pure pay-as-you-go and you get charged at those rates.. but for the month you are there you are essentially like a regular Contract person...

As far as the $50 , if you use it up , you'll still have the package offers for the rest of the 30 days , but you won't have credit for other things (e.g. International if you don't buy that option etc.)

In terms of international - Bear in mind that incoming calls will be a full International call for the callers - Although as you have data you could use Viber or whatever to make/receive those calls...

Not sure about Canada - Yuo'd have to check with them if your $50 credit would allow you to make calls while there...

    Got Jellybean this morning OTA.

    Vodafone network.

Don't find it anything special. Am I missing something?

Its more subtle changes, some people go on like it completely changes their phone

Yeah small changes. Bit like Samsung getting through a snag list to what should have been at launch.

Not all sellers need to furnish multiple retail outlets/rent them/hire staff/insure said premises, less overheads - :)

Downloading a 250 odd megabyte update, one has to assume its JB, and just in time as my phone was acting most peculiar the last few days. Im on meteor.

What good screen lockers are there for the s3.

Was using Widget Locket but everytime I hit the home or back button it opens the screen. Have Launcher pro installed and was looking at go Locker but you have to have GO launcher installed

Any good ones so that when I do take it out of my pocket its still locked...

    Thanks

Just picked up my SIII two days ago now, had an iphone4 before it and I just love the SIII, it really is a huge step up!!!

I downloaded Kies (not sure of spelling) for transferring music/videos etc & it prompted me to do an update, I did that update so does that mean I'm now running JB or what?

Sorry, new to the Android market!

Only gripe I have so far is that the ipod in the iphone is a superior music player... Any recommendations for a good music playing app, maybe something similar to the ipod???

Power amp is your one stop music player that has it all, but my personal preference is rocket player.

I'd only use those if stock One isn't available. I always thought the stock One was pretty good.

Go to settings then select about device (it should be the last option at bottom) and then check android version (5th option down). I think you should be on version 4.1 for jellybean on the galaxy sIII

Since I downloaded the jelly bean update, my battery isn't lasting at all. I used to get two or three days out of it now I'm lucky to get one. Like I charged it last. Night before going to bed. Woke up this morning it's down to 60%. Anyone else having this problem?

Sorry my battery never lasted two three days in the first place to compare :-)

How did you manage to get 3 days battery out of the phone?
Are you even using it at all ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

Since I got jellybeans I haven't noticed much difference in battery life, it takes way longer to charge now though. Normally it took 2 hours max, the other day I had it on for 5 and it was still only at 70. Am I the only one with this?

Well 2 days on average but often 3. Not in constant use but yeah bit of texting bit of internet. I've tried turning off Google Now as that's supposed to be a bit of a drain. But I can't have it dropping 40% over night with no usage. That's crazy,

    That's jelly bean.

Thinks for that! Have not had the phone long enough before the update to comment on the battery life but I'm certainly charging more than my iPhone. I support a lot odd that is down to initial heavy usage
