I doubt shareholders are annoyed at having to wait for it to come out tbh. They're guaranteed a windfall whether it's released tomorrow or in 2 years time and ain't gonna lose any real money in the meantime. I'm sure that most of them will be happy about the drawn out process actually, as it pretty much provides their company with a captive audience until the release.

Btw what makes us believe that GTA will even come up at this meeting?? If it doesn't turn up then that makes it a 2013 release?

I think we can assume that now.

Robert W. Baird industry watcher Colin Sebastian "increasingly concerned" Rockstar's upcoming open-world game may miss projected early 2013 release window.
Rockstar Games has yet to announce a release date for its much-hyped Grand Theft Auto V, but according to one analyst's projections, the open-world game is possibly in danger of arriving after March 2013.

GTA V by March 2013? Maybe not, says Sebastian.
In a note sent to investors, Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said the firm is "increasingly concerned" that GTA V may miss its projected March 2013 release window. Speaking to GameSpot, Sebastian said there are numerous reasons for these concerns.

"By no means am I convinced that it will miss March, but there are a couple of factors to consider. One, we haven’t heard anything definitive from the company on release timing," he said. "Second, retailers typically would want 4-6 months lead time to prepare for a launch as large as GTA, and from [what] I understand they haven’t heard anything. Third, Rockstar rightly prioritizes game quality over release date, and this dynamic could shift timing."

When GTA V does launch, it stands to be a hit, Sebastian claims. He believes the game will ship 12-14 million units during its first three months. Just yesterday, Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said development on GTA V remains ongoing at a healthy clip.

"Grand Theft Auto V is in full development and is making substantial progress," Zelnick said during Take-Two Interactive's 2012 annual shareholder meeting.

I see plenty of similar articles are doing the rounds with analysts making various predictions of when in 2013 they expect it to be released. I hope Rockstar haven't allocated any money for promoting this game, such spiel from "experts" are doing it for them:D

So its been a month since the Business screenshots

How long is 'a few weeks or so'? more than 4, maybe 5-7 weeks?

    I could be any length.

    Thats the joke.

Meaning that r* said we will hear something in a few weeks.
The only thing they were saying is that we wouldnt hear anything more for 14 days after the 28th.

I'm just asking generally how many weeks would people think 'a few weeks' is?, although they could do it whenever they want to
It's coming up to the 10 year anniversary of Vice City (Sept 29th) so maybe we'll get more info after that

Ok, its obvious now that there are serious problems behind the scenes with this games development.

    Why?

That's some pretty wild extrapolation there.

    ???

    Why would you say that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,845 ✭✭✭py2006

    haha.

Well its obvious, the ad came out almost a year ago now. We heard absolutely nothing for months and months. We got some screen eventually and now nothing again. I'd say they released the trailer far to early and came into some problems in production.

Look at it this way, it'll be a great game to play away at over Christmas!(which Christmas that will be is anyones guess):D

That's not obvious at all. R* aren't known for excessively promoting their games, they don't need to. I'd even say they're pretty close to the levels of publicity that GTA IV saw.

I can't really remember how GTA4 went. Although I do recall a periodic release of screenshots which lead up to a trailer and then a second trailer. Was there really that much of a gap back then too?

    See for yourself:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing_for_Grand_Theft_Auto_IV

It's been nearly 10 months since the GTA V trailer, IV saw four trailers spaced out over a year. If we see another trailer before November it would hardly be a media blackout in comparison.

IV basically came out 1yr and 1 month after the initial trailer was released.

Perhaps not, but I get the feeling they could have done a lot more to keep the eager fans happy. Even a selection of screen shots every month or something.

Are there any big events coming up before christmas were they may announce a release date?

Are you not going to buy it? Why waste money on marketing?

Let the developers work on it, so it can be the improvement over IV we all want. Let them go home to their families in the evenings and not have to work 100 hour weeks so the game can ship in a specific quarter to keep analysts and impatient gamers happy.

There are so many other great games out now.

While i dont disagree with what you are saying, It would appear that they did release the first trailer a bit too soon. I know they are building up hype and what not but hype doesnt last with the majority of people unless its reinjected with more 'teasers' per se.
Hype is like a series of waves. It is strongest at the point of new information being released and slowly deminishes afterwards. I honestly forgot about GTA 5 from about christmas 2011 to the point of the new screen shots being released. I then got interested in GTA when the new screen shots came out. Iv lost most (if not all interest) in the game now again. Mind you im not a die hard fan, but neither are most people.

The real hype will start once they release the launch date.

    .

Of course I will buy it. It doesn't cost them to release a few screen shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

They could release it tomorrow and it would still sell like crazy. They dont need to waste their energy releasing anything every few months. If they want to show something, they do. It's not going to affect their sales in any way if they dont.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

At this stage, I'm willing to bet that we'll get a release date announcement on the 1 year anniversary of the trailer. Would make sense if some of the analysts' release date predictions are to believed...

Yeah it does. Or else GT5 wouldn't have sold two million copies more than any other PS3 game. That went years between significant updates.

Personally I want Rockstar to take as much time as they need to release the best GTA game possible. And whether they release a screenshot a week or not a single thing between now and the day that they release the game I don't believe it will have any noticable impact on sales. Everyone will buy this game and they know it.

its rockstar, they always so this s*** when it comes to gta

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭JohnMarston

Game developers and testers in rockstar are working to a schedule. The powers that be in R* arent gonna let a game with as much hype as GTA5 be kept in limbo forever.
Those with a financial stake in the company are going to want to see a return for however much has been poured into the making of GTA 5 already. They're working to make this game the best it can be.

Until then, Borderlands 2 is an adequate distraction i think :D

In the case of GTA, less is more. Whilst some games have to release video after video to get this sort of hype, R* only has to release one video. The screenshots were a bonus.

No release at E3 does make me worry, though, about if they even know themselves yet of a rough date.
