Hmm, I wonder what gives then with my new Snes?
    (nips off to check Ebay)
    (nips back)
Yup, seems the US Super Ninty I have on the way, courtesy of the Royal Mail and Parcel Motel, runs everything, Jap, US and Euro stuff.
Does this mean there's some gubbins under the hood that works this magic?
    Is it a chip?
Is it some crafty soldering and some wire?
    Could it possibly be pixies?
    All of the above??

Don't care, apparently it was running the PAL version of Aladdin and I'm good with that.

So, what do you reckon was done with it?

If it runs everything then it's been modded. 50/60Hz switch and a CIC lockout switch.

If it doesn't have those, the seller has lied to you :p

If the CIC handshake fails then the CPU is held in reset hence the black screen, the region mismatch screen occurs after the CIC handshake succeeds but the game itself detects a timing mismatch ie expects 50Hz but is running at 60Hz.

Cheers, that details it a bit better :)

    So basically:

A PAL cart on an NTSC Snes will be a black screen
A PAL cart on an NTSC Snes with Region switch will throw up the region error
A PAL cart on an NTSC Snes with a Region & 50Hz switch will pass the checks

Cidey, yep yours is modded same way I always do the mod 9or else has the super cic mod done). I just don't wanna mod this NTSC Snes, I'm happy to keep it stock & rework my carts to suit it. I actually don't have that many...luckily

TL;DR version: PAL games are **** and a blight on your collection.

I had too much wine and turned atavan :(

Was in Rage today and they have Gradius V for the PS2 for 10 euro, about the only thing that is value for money in the place. I would have gotten it but some of those blue/purple back CDs don't work in my PS2.

You should have bought. It's so good, by far the best shmup on the PS2 and probably Treasures best if not for Radiant Silvergun.

If your PS2 can't read CD games then it means your laser is about to go bust.

Never saw those super famicom boxes before, what are they for?

On another note, just back from "Taken 2: Take This", underwhelming but pretty much what I expected, thrown together story with a climax pretty much identical to the first. Except this time we have a Albanian scummer who is about 2 ft shorter than Liam Neeson for a man on man showdown. Couldn't see myself watching it again

I'm still convinced it should have been called -

    'Taken: from behind'

Mainly installed in hotel rooms in Japan to provide entertainment for guests. Just a big black box with 2 controllers sticking out. I presume they used different carts so they could add extra features/modes to games and to stop owners buying (what I can only assume were) cheaper retail carts to stick into the boxes.

    Or Taken: The Revenge

The plot is so poor I could actually imagine it being called that. Here's a excerpt:

Bay Guy: You killed my son, now I'll kill you

Good Guy: Your son kidnapped women, killed some of them, used other as drug addicted prostitutes and sold others. He was a a bad chap. He took my daughter and I wanted to get her back and I was forced to kill him

Bad Guy: I don't care, you still killed him

Ah so they're carts for that hotel system thing! I thought they were weird boxes to put your games in.

So, since I can't wrap my head around the whole consoles and region locking thing, I'm just gonna say something that might come out as stupid and embarrassing in regards to buying an old console in the near future, so...if I were to buy a PAL Super Nintendo that has been modded to play foreign games (with a spacer required for the US carts, since I don't want to cut away part of the case) would the foreign games run in full speed, or would I need a 50/60Hz switch mod for that?

Yep you'd need to have a PAL Snes modded with a 50/60z switch & a Region switch. Then it'll play the majority of carts no mater what region. Some later NTSC carts such as Super Mario RPG have extra protection though & still won't work.

There's also a fairly newer type mod called the Super CIC mod, which you replace the entire stock CIC chip in the snes with a new chip that makes it 100% compatible.

There's guides to the region & 60Hz switch in my sig if you wanna do them yourself, I havn't yet done the Super CIC mod so mmmonkey for that one :)

Then you wouldn't mind it if I were to ask you to do it for me, since I don't exactly have the best hands for the job...nor do I have the know how. I mean, if I ever get around to actually getting a Super Nintendo.

The region & 60hz mod? Yep no bother, sure pm me whenever you want & we'll sort it out when you get a console :)

And the controller mod, if I ever want to play using imported controllers.

4 Modules with 10 exams in each and i have all the answers for everything:mad:

    Freely available on the web

All i was looking for was mock tests

1st two exams that i have done were the same to the letter

So there are people out there that have there cert without doing anything other then memorizing questions and answers

To be honest that's sort of the same for most of those sorts of tests(whether they have cheat exams or not). People memorize stuff rather than learn and understand, I've seen it a million times over the years.
In the end it wont benefit most of them as its the on the job execution of those skills that companies want and need, not just a cert on a CV.
Anyway, once you start to go above the CCNA just memorizing information wont be enough as they'll need to understand things very well to do the exams. I'm not a fan of Cisco stuff myself and find it a bit boring but I've done the exams up to CCIE and that's all the Cisco I ever want to know or see:)

My boardame meetup went really well today. Was a lot of fun.

I made a new website to track board game meet ups if anyone wants in.
