I was also waiting 16 weeks for my FIS to be processed and the same thing happened with my back pay.Still waiting on it and they said it could be another 10 days before I receive it.It was sent for checking apparently if it is over a certain amount.

Quick question on behalf of a family member.

They applied about 6 months ago & it was returned because they forgot something. Was re-submitted about 2 months ago & nothing heard back, not even an awknowledgement.

    Is this normal?

Was it refused or just sent back to get more info?

If it was just returned for more info ,they wouldnt get a acknowledgement as it is the same application.

does anyone know what they mean about that your arrears were sent for checking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 778 ✭✭✭jessiejam

I think if your arrears are over €3,000 they are sent for checking.

Does anyone know what date they are working on at the moment?, I rang this day last week and they were still on the 10th of May. I wonder has this progressed at all. It could be slow at this time of year because of holidays etc.

Does anyone know if they have moved on from the 10/05 renewals?

Sorry all, just a quick question, does any one know if you are on sick pay from the social welfare, does your FIS have to stop, I am out of work sick for 6 weeks, however I am still employed, thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 778 ✭✭✭jessiejam

As fas as i know it is stopped. You should ring them and tell them and give them the date you are returning to work. If you are getting illness benefit they will know anyway but it might be more hassle to get it back unless you ring first.

You can only get FIS and Illness Benefit together for 6 weeks .FIS is then stopped until you return to work.

You need to contact only when you have returned to work and sent in a Final cert. Its up to you to contact FIS only after your Illness Benefit claim has closed.

we applied for fis last september, they sent it to social welfare inspector and she spend so long asking for bank statements, stuff from employer we ended up only getting fis through in june! we have 3 kids and it was so hard getting through christmas. this morning a fis renewal came in post! this means we now have to start all over again. the relief of getting it in june and now we will be cut off for another 20 weeks, dunno how we will get through christmas again! Its a nightmare. The back payment is great but to be honest id rather have my application processed quickly, than suffer for weeks with no money. Sorry about the rant.

I think its safe to say everyone would like if claims were processed quickly,DSP staff included, but that just isn't possible.

yes yabadabado, i can imagine the dept would love claims processed quicker too. Its just waiting nine months for ours to be passed and then hit with a renewal is a bit upsetting. But sure nothing we can do only wait now. If i send renewal in straight away even though its not up until 9th sept does this mean i get in the queue early? i hope so :-(

My renewal date is the 17th of May. I haven't heard anything yet. Im on hold to them as we speak to see if there has been a decision made. It would be nice to get it before the end of next week so I can sort books for school etc.

Got through after 30 mins. My claim (renewal 17th may) has been processed and lodged to the bank. Only problem is they calculated it wrong. It was the same last year. So back on hold again now to see what the story is.

I hope you get it soon, we're 5 weeks after you, I wonder how long it takes them to clear each week!

I know exactly how you feel. I really thought I was going to be sorted this week. Kids back to school from tomorrow, one doesn't have a jumper yet, transition year fees due, plc course fees due, the list is getting longer and longer. I don't know where to turn tbh it's like a bloody nightmare, something from the waltons.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 Mrsrobby

JCA...im in the same boat...mine is not up for renewal till 13 june...but the list of stuff needed for the kids keeps growing!!

I know it's mad but with a bit of luck we will be sorted in the next week or so

Jessiejam what did they say to you about calculating it wrong?

Our renewal date was 17th May, we received the back payment today but it seems to be wrong. It's less than last year and there has been no change in circumstances that could explain it.

When I calculate it myself it seems that the only way they could have got the figure they have is if they haven't deducted pension contributions.

I'm so stressed now because we have been waiting nearly 16 weeks for this and can't afford to wait longer now to appeal.

give them a call and they will tell you the calculations over the phone.

My husband spent all morning trying to get through, he finally got through about 20 minutes ago and they could see the mistake straight away. They said it should be sorted out in 10 days. I'm so relieved, I was so scared that we would have to go through a lengthy appeal process.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭kmscc

After reading a few posts up, i am getting very disheartened i thought i would be settled up in the next week or so but by all accounts it will be about 3 weeks if not more, they are still working on the 17th, does any body know what order they start ? My date is the 23rd so 16 weeks from the 23rd May is 12th September that is just so hard to take at the minute, things are not good, bills to be paid etc, and i know every body here is in the same boat, it's a sad state of affairs.

They process them in PPS number order.

In fairness to the Fis staff they're very nice. They don't act like its their money and always make sure you get the max money you're entitled to.

I rang them and was told to write a letter outlining why I think the calculations were wrong. The man on the phone said that he doesn't have access to my file because I was ringing a call bank?
Anyway I am off work for 4 weeks so I don't have access to any more recent payslips so i will have to send them the one I printed off originally with my renewal form, thats dated the 12th of April!
Sending the letter in the morning so I will hope that they will look again at it. I actually calculated it myself and they were way off. I included my own calculations so I hope they can explain how they calculated it. I hope i'm not waiting too long. I was refused btscfa because they now take gross wage so i was relying on the back pay to pay for the school expenses!
    Disaster

They must have changed the procedure ,they used to be able to give the info over the phone.
If you want to post up your details/income you should get helped out fairly well.

received letter yesterday saying awarded fis (my claim dated May 17th) but the figure is only half of what we have received per week for last 2 years.

my husband is going to ring them today, hoping they missed something and its not that they have changed the workings.
