Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

11-7 going into the last round.

Barnes put in a brilliant performance today. Made his opponent look average. I think we now have 4 fighters just one fight away from a medal. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,207 ✭✭✭decisions

San Marino within touching distance of their first ever medal in the women's trap. A shoot off between 3, for 2 medals.

Edit: she just missed a clay and finished 4th

Annalaise Murphy in with a serious chance of a medal (of any colour) in the Laser Radials.

Going in to the Medal Race on Monday it stands:

    China - 33
    Netherlands - 33
    Ireland - 34
    Belgium - 34
    GBR - 52

If she can finish ahead of any of her 3 main rivals she gets bronze. Win the race, and she's got gold. Never thought sailing could be so exciting. :P

Irvine finishes 6th in the points race to put him 9th overall after 2/6 races.

Edit: there is something wrong with these results, he may be 7th overall I think.

Murray is playing Federer at 2 today but it also says that he's scheduled to play mixed doubles at 4 today too.

Synchronised swimming is unbelievable! But it's kinda creepy how they remain synchronous when they're walking around the place beforehand..

Taylor will face the British girl Jonas tomorrow... Let's just hope we don't see some questionable judging in favour of the home girl... :\

    WE HAVE A MEDAL!!!!

    Hon the John Joe!!! :D:D:D

What an absolutely brilliant performance, gave the Mexican a schooling in how to box. :)

Apart from when he got a count >.<
And after when he was running away a bit.. Tres nervous I was..

    Cubian laddy next?

Bah! All part of the plan. Take a count and you waste 8 valuable seconds. :P
And his defensive performance in the last 30 seconds of that round when he was shattered was excellent IMO.

Yeah, Cuban lad next, will be an extremely tough fight, Nevin will have to produce another top class performance to win. I think he has the skill to do it, but everything will have to go his way on the day.

Katie our next fighter now I believe, and Annalaise Murphy in with a decent shout of a medal of any colour tomorrow as well. :)

Enjoyed the 100m final, thought there might have been a world record broke though.

Sucks :-( She did really well overall, so hopefully she won't be too disappointed.. I don't know anything about sailing now but she seemed to go on the inside each time and each time she fell way back from where she was. Surely she should have realised that it wasn't the way to go?

There's always Rio for her anyway!

I'm gutted for her, thought she had at least bronze.

This isn't aimed at you JamJam but RTE's talk of Rio is starting to get annoying. Some of our Olympiads who really should have reached their peak by now have no business going to Rio never mind having hopes of medals...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

Gutted for Annalaise Murphy, so close. Typical that when there were 4 going for 3 places we'd finish 4th. :P

Judging by the interview she just gave on RTE, she knows she made a mistake going on the inside of the course (or was it outside? I forget. :o)

But I think hopes were inflated by her outstanding performance in her first 4 races, I don't remember anyone tipping her for a medal coming up to the Olympics, so to come as close as she did was a brilliant achievement. And she's only 22, so there's realistic hope for her in Rio.

It's more frustrating than annoying IMO. I'll be the first to admit that I don't really follow athletics or swimming outside of the Olympics (bar the odd Euro Championship that's shown on RTE) but it seems that we've been saying for the past 3 games that "Oh they've got their experience now, next time around they'll come out of the blocks flying and will have a realistic chance."

Taylor up in a few minutes, will be a hard bout, but I reckon she can do it. :)

    Minor Rant:

BBC, if you say you're going to show something, please actually show it.

I'm trying to watch the showjumping here and for some reason the sailing is still on?!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Looks like they're timing it to start with Nick Skelton, so 10 mins or thereabouts!

How the hell did she get so much support in the arena when she was fighting an English girl?

It's a shame she met Jonas so early, that would have made a superb gold medal fight. :)

G'wan Katie! Can see her going all the way to Gold tbh.

    3 medals. :)

Cian O'Connor goes clear in the first round of the individual showjumping. Only 4 others have had clear rounds. Fair play to him fo putting in such a performance when he was only added to the final this morning. :)

Is it wrong that I get happy when other riders get 4 faults? Probably, but meh!

SOOO unlucky. .02 away from being in a jump off for gold, and bringing down the last fence even though he had a time lead of 3 seconds was heartwrenching.

But what a comeback story from O'Connor. Delighted for him, he seems to be a nice guy.

4 medals now. This has been one of our best Olympics ever (which is hardly surprising given it's basically our home Games).

Barnes was shocking in the last round, but he was so good in the first two that I reckon he was the well deserved winner. :)

He was kinda losing the run of himself a bit blagarding.. Like the Indian was trying to frustrate him but he didnt need to keep answering back to it -.-

Glad he won though, was defo the better overall.. Would LOVE to see him beat the Chinese fella after the muck up of the 15-0 score..

Also well done to Cian O Connor, some man, not even supposed to be representing us in the Olympics, not supposed to have gotten through to todays round and then to get a medal :)

Have to get the bus ten minutes before Katie Taylor's fight starts, by the time I het back from work the coverage will be over (four channels ftl) and I can't watch anything on the PC because the speakers are broken, or the laptop because the charger's broken. So basically I'm going to miss everything and my life is a shambles

If you have a decent set of headphones, plug them into the PC and turn the volume up to the last? If they're good headphones they'll be as good as speakers in a quiet-ish area.

And if that's not an option, can't you just watch it on the PC without sound?

Or, if you have an Android/iOS phone, RTEPlayer streams are available?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,298 ✭✭✭Namlub

Hmm, I'll give it a go...might end up having to watch it with no sound, I won't have a clue what's going on >_>

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

If Katie punches the other girl more, she wins. That's all you need to know really! :pac:

And if all else fails, you can watch it as soon as you get home on RTE Player, they make the previous 12 hours of coverage available there.

I'm getting worried now, all the news bulletins have basically been saying she has the Gold and is on her way back to Bray. Whenever the country gets this overconfident it always ends in tears...

anyone got any other sites apart from RTE player, AERtv and Filmon to watch this in case they are overloaded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,248 ✭✭✭Slow Show

Mhmmm, it's days like today that make me wish I worked in an electrical store...I'll have to hear the result on the news on the radio at work (it should be over by five, right?) instead. I know I can watch it when I get home but it's not the same at all really. Sad face.

I've seen links to a site called something like eurovisionsports.tv or something. If you go over to the Sports forum and the London 2012 Daily Diary thread you'll find the link somewhere.

I'm in work at 5 so will be on my way there during the fight. Which will mean I've barely missed all three of them.

Also watching the Olympics in English is weird. The Germans make it much more exciting!
