It was brand new, it should not die just like that? The drive is completely dead, no spin, no clicks, just silence. The only noise is a ticking sound coming from the LED, which is bizarre. Pretty poor overall from WD anyway, thank God I didn't have any major data on it. I doubt even OnTrack cound save this drive, it's totally kaput.

I managed to get the drive back in the case and only one tab is lightly snapped so I reckon if I return it I'll be grand right? Am I responsible for shipping costs with WD RMA? Bit much if I am, thinking of chancing my arm though and sending it back on Tuesday.

I bought it in Abu Dhabi Duty Free and the back of the receipt, in no plainer words, basically says they wash their hands of you after 7 days. Ridiculous.

Have you tried the bare drive inside a pc. I presume its just standard sata.

Looks like WD give you a pre-mailer, I just created an RMA for it. Feck it, it's going back and they can give me a new one. A drive dying after 5 minutes is ridiculous. That said, it is WD and I should have known better.

I was going to try the drive in my work tower, but it's not worth it. I put it in another external case and it started smoking! Salvaged it though and my 1tb drive still works in the other case!

The drive is dead. WD just better give me a feckin new one!

EDIT: Feck sake, it's not a pre-paid mailer, but it's only the UK. Feck it, I've no other comeback, I can't send it to the airport and the drive is toast so best to suck it up and pay postage. :(

Despite my former distaste for it, I am now officially hooked on Cherry Cola. I've been gorging on Dr. Pepper & Coca Cola Cherry for since yesterday & I now fear for what will happen when my supplies are exhausted.

I felt it important to mention this...why, is beyond me. Perhaps blame the sugar levels?

For an excellent cherry cola get the Tesco own brand, 99c for two litres and, as Dino once said, "it's cola that's not afraid to be cherry"!

99c for 2 litres? Sounds like oft-touted UK mums favourite, 'Roller Cola'. 16 litres for 40p!

It's the kind of stuff you'd pour down the sink to clear a blocked drain, or polish tired copper pans. Rotten stuff!

Soft drinks are one of the very few things I won't buy the store own brand of. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, or in the case of soft drinks, a complete waste of time and stomach lining.

Remember this shizzle? Used to drink it all the time when I lived in England....

Absolutely. Preferred Tizer though. Tizer mixed with Fizz Wizz rocks and a Wham bar is insanity, but heavenly.

Almost as heavenly as Team GB raking in the gold today. :)

Rainbow Cola was the cheap crap me Ma use to try and fob off on us. Teachers whiskey goes down smoother than Rainbow Cola.

Down in Bray Bowl last night, and many of the arcade machines down there need to be put out of their misery. The Police 24/7 machine isn't calibrated, so you can't get past the first screen. The House of the Dead II (or 3, I'm not sure) is missing a shotgun and seems to be running in some bizarre old-school 3D mode. But the Time Crisis 3 machine is a particularly sad sight. The aspect ratio on the second screen

that place will be closed within a year, the owner (Joe) won't spend tuppence on the place.

Does it taste like Dr. Pepper/Cola Cherry? Or is it a pale imitation because although I'm new to the flavour, I've drank so much of it already I'm near-conniseur level :D

I hated this stuff right up to last year, for some bizarre reason though now...I can't get enough of it!

Also, started a Harry Potter movie run-through with the wee lad there a while back. Just finished number three there, The Prisoner of Azkibhan, please somebody tell me they get better as there's four more to go! To be honest, they're kinda crap :o

    Yes, the movies get better.

It's in a Cherry Coke mode rather than Dr. Pepper.
    And it's excellent.

JCs in Swords stocks Cherry Coke and the diet version too.

Actually the place is doing fantastically at the moment. The BYOB nights attract huge crowds three or four times a week. The toilets for the first time in two decades have been completely refurbished. They even had new monitors showing RTE HD alongside all the score boards (which they've also upgraded in the relatively recent past) last night! Amongst the most significant upgrades I've seen since I went to bowling birthday parties there as a wee lad!

Two years ago I would have said they were close to closure. Now the arcade machines may be increasingly miserable (although Sega Rally 3 is there), but the place to their credit have actually made a very comfortable market for themselves.

Hmm, to pre-empt Retr0 if your spending coin on Mr. Gimmick...it's prob best to source the Famicom version with the enhanced sounds & music.

That's from a gameplay point of view. I was more thinking of the rarity and general collect-ability of the PAL version.
I've been offered it for 300 euro.

Ah I see, I'm not very well up on the going price but I think €300 sounds on the good side. It's a Scandanavian PAL or something is it?

Yeah, it's PAL B (Sweden) and it's boxed and not a repro.

Well seeing as your looking at it as a collectable, the fact it's boxed really leans heavily towards the pro side. If your 100% sure its not a repro, I'd say you'll be hard pressed to find a boxed one cheaper.

It's 100 percent not a repro. It's from a trusted seller so no problems there.
I actually had to trade something expensive away recently(and provide proof I was a serious collector) to get an introduction to this guy's inner circle of retro sellers and traders.
They have some crazy stuff up for trade and sale but some of the prices are not for the faint of heart.

I guess slightly NSFW, only slightly.

Sounds like you've been inducted into the sinister six or a like minded organisation.
    What did you trade Steve?

That Mr. Gimmick have been on ebay for ages, never thought anyone would be mad enough to buy it. I didn't factor in Steve 'Million dollar man' SI into the equation.
