Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Im sorry that I cant input much more to give you a hand roversrain. Just to answer one of your questions, the flashing process should only take a minute over usb (in my experience anyway). The fact that it was taking over 10min for you does seem strange, but the fact that the box was working fine before the interrupted flashing hints that the box should be grand. Are you following the correct flashing sequence outlined here?: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056546948

Also, if you do end up returning it, i wouldnt mention anything about the interrupted flashing. You may be able to save yourself some hassle by arranging a refund by paypal or bank transfer if you post it back to them.

This poxy 3606 Ariva Channel Editor is an absolute PITA. Crash after crash. Pure torture. A job that should have taken 1hr.......

I've starting to swear at the laptop now. We all know where this leads

    EDIT: Done. Favs as follows:

    1. General TV including HD variants (31)
    2. Movies (12)
    3. BBC Olympics including HD (24)
    4. News (11)
    5. Kids (8)
    6. Music (9)

Not an exhaustive list by any means but the full list of channels is there to mess around with on the editor to add or remove channels for your needs.

N.B: Don't delete any channels from the MAIN list or you'll lose them from your FAVS. I had terrible trouble with the editor crashing periodically but overcame that earlier.

    Link here

Just remember. Only for the 250 on the V1.18B6 FW

Cheers dodzy! Cheers for going through the hassle. Il have a go tonight at flashing it to the box at home. You have more patience than I have :)

Anyone know of anyway to get the remote for the 150 working form a different room? Is it possible to get an infra-red injector - do those things even work.

I don't want to use a remote AV sender as it interferes with the WiFi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

perhaps try a power mid xl or similar

You can use a tri-Link made by triax which takes a conenction from its scart and modulates it down a coax cable that you can run to any room you wish and control the box via magic eye which is included in the kit.

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/triax-trilink-kit.html

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,939 ✭✭✭wingnut

Thanks for the info - the tri-link looks good. The PowerMid is a non runner as its RF and will interfere with WiFi.

At the moment I am running the scart to an old VCR which is pumping the signal to the TVs around the house. At the moment its giving separate terrestrial and whatever channel the Ariva is on. Obviously come the switch off it will be down to one channel.

Pity you can't stream or even control the unit over the network.

I'll probably just end up running another cable and getting another box in the end!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭steveon

Tri-Links work a dream with almost every box.

Can anybody provide some help here...?

I am realy confused since I tried everything to make it work, but it does not.
I changed router, cables, port, manual IP assign, reboot, restart, reset, fw 1.18, fw 1.18 patched, assign directly via MAC address, change the MAC address.... NOTHING works!

I sent 3 emails from contact form to Ferguson, NONE replied!
Seller from ebay, insists that I am doing something wrong (I am network admin by profession...)

I have 2 PCs, 1 laptop, 1 media player, 2 mobile phones, 1 printer, my old receiver, and ALL of them work with DHCP setting without a glitch.
Ariva 150 denies to connect!!! I even checked router's log, and it does not even send a request for DHCP address.

Is there a power shut down on these boxes that automatically put the box in standby if remote control is not used for a certain amount of time? Having a problem with a box shutting itself down after about 4 hours.

I'm not aware of any but I wonder is it something to do with the tv and the HDMI cec menu option ?

ferguson take the view that its a pan european box and they will not remove it from the firmware for our relatively small market .

Possibly, seems its the box that goes into standby after a warning comes up of non activity, service will shut off in a minute and it does.

Just googled it with using a phillips TV, it seems its a bug in the phillips TV using an HDMI connection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,336 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Ok but I think you can turn off the cec option in the ferguson menu which might be a workaround for the phillips issue

Hi there, I purchased a 150 from a local company yesterday, am tuning it in this evening, just wondering what satellite I should be looking for? don't want all the crap, just the BBCs and ITVs etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭Schorpio

Astra @ 28.2E is where you'll find all of those channels (crap included too!).

You're satellite should already be configured to receive signals from the Astra satellite. If that's not done correctly it doesn't matter what you select on the box, you won't receive anything!

  • Registered Users Posts: 16 Mr Scoobie

    thanks mate, I've got Astra 1, astra 3, astra 2a and 2c...

    astra 1 yes?

Nope, any of the Astra 2's - doesn't matter which.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16 Mr Scoobie

actually, no worries, i got that, went for 2a as it said 28.2 after it..(you can prob tell I don't really know what I'm doing) anyway over 400 tv and 76 radio so I guess it's pointing in the right direction!

it's a right mess though, channels everywhere, if anyones got a channel list I can download for V1.19B1 that would be great

I'm aware there's one here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=79764895&postcount=143 but I don't think I can use it as different version yes?

yeah, just bought it on Tuesday, installed it last night and read this thread so decided to do a firmware up grade last night...how often do they release these upgrades? Is it something I should keep an eye on? or could I just leave everything for like a year?

My advice is do not upgrade at all unless you have a particular issue.

Hi guys updated to version 1.19 of firmware. Anyone have a channel list for this version of software?

    Hi all,

Have Ariva 150 about a week now (thanks Tony & Anthony). All working well but wanted to make a new list of radio & TV channels. Used the Ariva 150 Channel editor to make a new list, duly saved it to the USB stick then uploaded it to the box as per the instructions in the channel editor - and it gave me just 45 channels & not in the right order - not the 80+ that I'd created. Seem to be all satellite channels, too.

Tried to re-upload the original channel list that Anthony put in when he installed the box (I'd saved it) and the satellite channels are not showing.

I muist be doing something wrong... can anyone help? Thanks.

Thanks STB - I'll go look for it. I want to add in some odd stations (Welsh ones) but perhaps it's best to do that on the TV, not the PC.

Make sure you are on that version of the firmware first and then you just have to do a userdb transfer using the file in that post.

It has all the channels from 28.2 which remains untouched and then sorted into lists, one main, music, olympic streams and red button channels.

You may have to rename the name of the groups as that doesnt carry across. It will be evident as to what they are though.

I also have a version based on the patched V1.18B6 which has the same plus Hotbird and Astra 1 if anyone needs it.

Unfortunately Ferguson don't seem to take that issue too seriously . We are looking at an alternative box because of this.

I honestly can't see what the fixation is with Youporn, if you don't want it don't watch it, certainly it wouldn't put me off buying the box and I'm not exactly in the first flush of youth. Has the nanny state taken us to this, that we can't make our own decisions?
If it's a question of protecting children then I reckon that any child who is capable of navigating the menus on this box is equally capable of typing "porn" into Google.
Sure it would be preferable if it wasn't there but I think it's being blown out of all proportion. Don't connect to the internet, after all it's primarily a box for watching TV.

I have no problem with the Youporn menu but as I said my parents would and I want to buy a box for them that will also play DIVX SD movies. I know my parents and they would not accept any hit of porn anywhere. I believe a lot of other Irish people would have a similar view. I cannot see why Ferguson cannot make it as an optional menu. That would suit everyone.

If that's the case I'm surprised they can watch TV at all. Ferguson may relent and change the menu but by that stage this model may have been superseded anyway, as has been suggested, look elsewhere.

I was going to buy the 120 however I want the ability to play avi files (standard definition) and the 150 has that. So that requirement narrows the pool of boxes down greatly.

I believe the 120 will play H.264/MPEG-4 part 10 (AVC) encoded video files which is what is currently used to encode high definition video files in the majority of cases.

It will not play MPEG-4 Part 2 (MPEG-4 Visual) video files with is/was the standard used to encoded standard definition video files in the majority of cases, the DIVX/XVID format.

Since the majority of my collection are TV shows that uses the MPEG-4 Part 2/DIVX, XVID codec the Ferguson 120 will not play them (I have a 120 and I have confirmed that this is the case)

It looks like the Ferguson 150 will play both MPEG-4 part 10 and MPEG-4 Part 2 encoded video files.

I believe most peoples collections (apart from the more recent stuff) will be MPEG-4 Part 2/DIVX,XVID and so the 120 will not play the files.

Yes all of this is true.

If you have a large collection of XVID/DIVX films then you need the Ferguson 150.

.avi is the wrapper format which can contain video with various encoding types. Check what the video is encoded with against the list of playable codecs in the manual.

You could recode the video to make it playable ....... time consuming ....

The 120's couldnt play XVID/Divx recordings due to licensing.

The 150/250 range plays practically everything. Including Divx/Xvid/MKV/MP4/H264 encodings no matter what the wrapper.

@szn80 Try it in VLC and check under media information what the video format is. Probably some obscure realtime codec.
