    On the first page ....

Would this mean the wireless dongle and USB drive cannot be used at the same time?

Did anybody get a chance to test Wifi & USB storage at the same time or would it require/support a USB Hub?

This is a Channel List for the Ferguson Ariva 150 HD. Its based on firmware version V1.18B6.

If you haven't got that firmware, upgrade that first.

If you have that version of the firmware, you just need to load this channel list to a USB stick and choose "Upgrade by USB" in Tools menu, then right click on upgrade mode til you get to "User DB", click down to start (file displayed should be DumpFile STB 07-12.abs).

    Favourite Lists

DTT & Sat Channels General (Saorview are Mt Leinster, rescan for your local TX and edit/delete as necessary)
    BBC HD Olympic Streams
    BBC Red Button Channels
    Music Channels
    All Channels 28.2

    File here

I was full sure that the channel list would migrate to the 250 but alas, it seems "no" on initial test, even after the 250 F/W upgrade.

Updating the firmware to V1.18B6 cured the BBC HD problem

Your channel list was very handy - thanks. Obviously I had to retune the terrestrial channels and then delete the "no signal" (ie Mount Leinster) ones. This scattered Saorview channels all overvthe "all" channel list so a bit of editing ie moving these into the favourites DTT & FTA list was called for.

Tuning in Saorview after 7 pm gives RTE1+1 (and kills RTE Jnr of course)

As far as I know they wont work at the same time under current software config. A firmware update should allow for both to be used. Got a Ralink wifi dongle this morning. Tested and Confirmed as working. This means you wont have to fork out €20 for the ferguson one, its less than €5.

Just did a firmware upgrade with network cable and the machine (Ariva 150) restarted but is stuck on 'menu' on the front display with nothing on the screen. Seems that the machine is bricked. Tried plugging out and back in again. Can I reset this machine somehow?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,325 ✭✭✭✭Tony

check the scart or the hdmi and also make sure your on the right input on the tv. Its normal for it to show menu as you need to scan for channels or load up a channel list.

    hope this helps

Network cable ? You tried to connect to the ferguson ftp and update the firmware ?

Bricking is temporary. These particular boxes cant be bricked as the rom is protected on the chip. Trust me I have bricked loads of boxes.

Recovery has to be done with a Null Modem Cable and the Ariva Recovery tool (called Eromupgrade) and a proper firmware for 150 model only. Get yourself a Null modem cable (they are about €2) and connect it between the R232 port on the box and the serial port on a PC, run the software and it will be fine or if you are not comfortable doing that send it back to the supplier to do it for you. Where did you buy it ?

You can set up other favourites which is just a right click to access from channel list. Heres one for the 24 Olympic HD streams.

The Wifi Dongle can slot in the front or back USB.
    213885.jpg

Its on Ebay for less than €5.

Of course we want to see them :)

One thing that's annoying me is the guide is nearly always mostly blank? i.e. its not populating the guide.
If I change channels then I'll get the now/next but rarely do if I just own the guide.
Any idea how to fix this?

This is the behaviour of all FTA boxes on satellite. This is due to the fact that it gathers the now next data per transponder. Not all FTA satellite stations data are on the one transponder/frequency, so it fills as you click on the station manually.

Unless an API is written to gather all the data say from Sky's openepg data transponder/Freesat Data channel , then this will not change. It has been done for certain boxes unofficially (Technomate) but they had access to the source code and someone was interested enough to compile the API/patch.

The first picture in the previous post will be of interest to those who like analysing chunks and disassembling code and putting it back together as it tells you.

    1. Who wrote this software
    2. What the software is based upon (a firmware compiled for Sab)
    3. What was used

I am not one of those people.

Saw these in Arnotts yesterday (for anyone who might prefer the bricks and mortar route, €120 I think...).
I thought the combo boxes didn't have the saorview stickers, so were in the 'hobbyist' domain, but looks like they've moved mainstream.

    Hi folks...
do Ferguson still recommend an externally powered hard drive ( as was the case with the 120 ) or will the 150 power a regular usb?

I'm using a 320Gb Iomega drive powered via the Ariva 250's USB and this seems to be working fine.

Got the ariva150 working with a USR5430 Wireless Bridge. This is a device you might have lying around the house if you are a gamer - it added wifi to the Ethernet port on a games console i.e. the connection is via the RgG45 socket, not the USB.

It's fun to have it working, but using Youtube etc is a so slow with move and click each letter method. Also the YouTube browser is painful - for instance I tried to find Leonard Cohen playing Hallelujah and after ploughing through 50+ wannabes playing it on guitar in their bedrooms I gave up.

Question for anyone with the Ariva 250: what's the web browser like? Is it possible to download a file to a usb memory stick?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 johnxcassidy

Thanks for helping but I ended up bringing it back to the shop where I got it and they hooked it up to a TV there and couldn't even get the cockadoodie thing to power up at all so they just gave me a new one.

My problem now is that I can't get YouPorn to work. Youtube, DailyMotion work OK but YouPorn gives a message 'Network Unavailable'. It's not that urgent a problem! But I do want all the features that are supposed to be on the machine.

They do recommend this but I have no problem with USB3 and USB2 non powered drives.

A quick message to stick up for buying local.
I bought 2 stbs last Tuesday from SatWorld. They were both delivered to my door on Wednesday.
On Thursday I mailed two technical support questions and both of these were answered clearly and accurately within 20 minutes each. Superb service.

Incidentally, I bought one Ariva 150 and one Ariva 250 and I'm very happy with both boxes.

First of all, hello everybody, and if the following post needs to be a seperate thread, please spliti it.

I just received an Ariva 150. I was so happy about it because I read very good things.
Unfortunately, problems started from day 0.
First of all, it does not seem to connect to network. I tried with DHCP, I tried with manual addresses, nothing. Cable works 100%, since any other device works when connected.

The second problem I am having is that I cannot setup the second sat. Me previous receiver, >5 year old model, worked with Diseqc 1.0, although my device is a Diseqc 2.0 model. While in Antenna setup menu, Hotbird (sat 1/2) has 90/75 (intensity/qty). When switching to Astra 2A (sat 2/2), my stats are 45/10, while with my previous receiver they were 85/65.

Following instructions from the manual, I noticed that while changing ports in Antenna setting menu, from 1 to 4 (Diseqc 1.0), and any port on Diseqc 1.1, Hotbird kept its stats, like nothing was changing. Same behaviour I had for Astra, but with low stats. From my point of view, it seems like nothing is changing and it cannot switch ports. Some incompatibility maybe? Am I doing somehting wrong here?

    Please advice

Well for me it worked OK with DHCP enabled but not with a fixed address (which confused me I must say).
Did you try powering the ARIVA off and on again after making any changes, or at least disconnect the cable and reconnect? It might also be worthwhile to reset the router too.

I had updated mine to the latest firmware (V1.18B6) before I tried to make the network connection by the way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭STB

    Upgrade to latest firmware.

    @Wizard.

    DHCP

This works directly out of the box. If you are using an ethernet cable, it should just involves plugging into a port on your router, the IP is established upon connection.

    Diceqc

Diseqc 2.0 devices Support Diseqc 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 receivers.

I have astra 1, 2 and hotbird working off diseqc on the Ariva 150.

Don't believe the signal readings, they are inaccurate on most Ali based receivers.

Are you using extremely long cable runs ?

Yes, it is updated to the latest, it was the first thing I did when I got it.
When in DHCP mode, it display some addresses in gray. Those are 192.168.9.xxx. My subnet is 192.168.1.xxx, so I believe that it does not get a real IP, instead those are dummy/default.

No, I live on the top floor, and the dishes are on the roof. I do not believe the readings, however I tried a full scan on Astra 2A and I got exaclty the same channels I have on Hotbird, thus I realy believe that somehow it does not switch Diseqc ports... :(

Let me explain to you my setup...
On the roof there are 2 dishes and an antena. The antena and dish A, are common for the whole building. Cables from those two, end up in a box, that mixes both signals to one cable and then splits them to every apartment. Sockets in the apartments have two outlets, Sat & Tv, however there is only one cable ending up inside the wall.
The second dish, is a personal one. So, in order not to have cables hanging from the roof, I found which one is the cable that ends up in my apartment, I connected there the Diseqc (Spaun) thus having Hotbird & Antena on port 1 and Astra on port 2. This setup worked fine with my previous receiver, that is confusing me... I removed the old one, installed Ariva, and strange things start happening...

I just bought three Ariva 250s for the family. Would anyone have the irish and sat channel list for download for the Ariva 250?

    Thanks!

The Irish depend on where you live, probably easier to scan yourself. The sat channel list is probably a few pages back. There is a version on page 10 of this thread.

Do you still have the old receiver? Can you reconnect it & see if it still works with the switch?

Yesterday I spent 4 hours trying to make it work. It was one of the things I did. Worked fine.

    File here

Unfortunately STB's Ariva 150 V1.18B6 channel dump from page 10 doesnt seem to play nice with my Ariva 250 V1.18B6. Although they are both from the same firmware version, it is a different model, and probably is why im getting "BIN size mismatch" with no option to continue when I try and update my channel list using the "userdb" part from STBs dumpfile. I could force a whole "allcode + bootloader" upgrade but seems like a bad idea as they are different models and especially as they are im not sure where i left my usb-serial adapter and null serial cable if I have to manually reflash the device to repair it.
