When I told my Mrs that I'd "inadvertently" bought a new bike she was somewhat sceptical! :D

SIDI & Spiuk - though I bought the Spiuk in the LBS for only a couple of euro more. The shoes are just a want but I needed the helmet after a crash last week.

Could you, or anyone else, comment on the fit of SIDI's as compared to Shimano shoes? I was just about to order a new pair of Shimanos because I like the fit in length and width, I think it suits my feet well (I wear them in the same size as my regular shoes). But those SIDI's look good and are pretty tempting.

Never had a pair but I've heard they fit quite small and you should go up a size

New set of pedals and cages.

Not TOO extravagant but they'll probably only be used once this year for Gaelforce.

I got the cages on wiggle a while ago but they didn't fit my pedals, got the pedals in Eurocycles on South William St. (probably cheaper online) both are MKS.

I had a pair of Raleigh flat pedals with plastic clips last year but they were useless. The plastic clips were squashed flat against the pedal and I couldn't get my feet in on the move, ended up cycling on the bottom of the pedals all day with the straps dragging on the ground.

Hopefully the rigid metal clips will stop this happening.

@hardCopy - thanks for that have the plastic ones don't fancy using them, I'll check out those

I'd say one more email from Wiggle about their sale might be the straw that breaks this camel's back.

SIDI's arrived - beautiful item, but maybe a touch on the large side for me.I think I could get away with it though. I 'ordered up' as they recommended but trying them on should perhaps have chosen a size 45 instead of 46. On the off chance any of you guys that were thinking of ordering are a size 11 foot I'd say they'd fit perfectly.....

Might throw an ad in the sale section later to see. If they moved quickly I'd size down again. If not :)

I was just about to post after seeing the comments a few posts up...don't believe that rubbish about SIDIs. I ordered up a size and guess what? They were too big. 44 in runners and a 44 SIDI would have fit perfect.

If in doubt, just buy locally or ask a friend/clubmate can you try theirs on.

Nothing worse than poorly fitting cycling shoes.

I imagine a powerful boot in the apparatus between your legs would be worse?

    I (will) have the power!!
    39762.jpg

needs to change to a shimano free hub, but apparently (according to cyclops the freehub is a handy change)

Off to find a hub now, then get a rim and a wheel built up.

Forgive me boardsies for I have shopped. It has been over 8 years since my last bike-related purchase.

After 8 yrs without a bike, I just jumped back into the game with a Defy 2 and convinced myself that I needed the clippy shoes. I mean, who doesn't, right? :D

So far I've ridden a total of about 2km (to the bike shop up the road and back over the weekend to get the shoes and pedals fitted) because I haven't wanted to get the bike wet - the on-off weather over the weekend was extremely frustrating when all I wanted to do was get out for a long first spin (I don't care about getting soaked myself, but for my new bike to get even threatened with rain?! Noooooooooo! :) )

Given this significant mileage already under my belt, I OBVIOUSLY now need to know my average speed, distance AND cadence (of course!), so this morning while bored in the office I have plonked a cateye strada double wireless cadence on the credit card.

I've also nearly convinced myself that, for my new pro cycling career, I really could do with a pair of fingerless gloves, some sunglasses and a knog rear LED from wiggle - but have so far managed to resist. Maybe they can wait til I've been out on a few proper spins... :)

To justify my early purchases, I shall be going for a proper first spin tonight* Hail Mary, etc. :o

    *Dry weather permitting.

Extra 10% off at the moment... let's just say I have a few items in the cart... might have a few drinks tonight and see if Raam's strategy pays off! :)

Nothing too exciting. Some bits and bobs for my first cycle tour!

Set of Ortlieb Back Roller Classic panniers from Wiggle. Went for the yellow

Have yet to decide on a rack yet, presume they're pretty much all the same.

2 Gatorskin hardshell tyres, and 1 folding tyre. Perhaps a folding tyre is overkill? Particularly with a Gatorskin, but one between 2 bikes seemed like a good idea. Not sure about bike shops along the route either.

Nothing too exciting, but still... new stuff is always good!!

They are nothing too special, Gigantex ultralight 50mm, novatec superlight hubs laced to sapim cxrays.

Sorry to drag this post up...but what weight are they, how much did they set you back, and how are you finding them...if you don't mind me asking :)

Currently throwing around some ideas for new wheels...
