Just to make people aware, I woke up to find that €599.99 had fraudulently disappeared from my bank a/c (seems my laser card must have been skimmed/number stolen).

Something similar happened to me 2 months back, guess my visa card was skimmed while on holidays in Spain/Portugal/France last year and details stored till needed, refunded no problem but a nightmare all the same

    Back to business

damn those came out well man.

interesting to see everyone else's battery stats im also finding its the screen is what the drain is on my battery.
phone on standby seems to drain only ~1% per hour which is awesome as longterm i figure i will easily get 2 days from it with these stats.
i leave wifi and data turned off mostly when on standby.
also have all my push settings set so that they only do it when wifi is connected, and theyre not doing it in the background on mobile data. (seen a lot of people complaining about phone waking up during the night multiple times and eating battery while doing so)

any awesome roms out for this yet? gave a quick look but most only seem to be focusing on the led or other not hugely significant things.. and i like the colours atm of red charging, blue notification and yellow randomly whatever its for :)

I'm getting the error "Unfortunately, S Planner has stopped" anyone getting this? Tried a factory reset but still have it.

Have you found a fix for this yet? Happening me too.

Also, I have 2 Digital Clock widgets enabled on my homescreen. I work with a lot of people in the states so keeping track of timezones like this is useful. However, it doesn't seem to update itself properly, see below for discrepancy between the clock in the top right and the other clocks. Any ideas?

Are you using a task killer?

I get "messages has stopped working" at least once a day. Yesterday I installed handcent and made it the default messenger, all good now.

Not great to see Samsung apps crashing though.

    Nope. Not rooted either.

Just ran my battery down yesterday without sticking it on a quick charge during the day. Lasted the whole day and I was using it normally.

If the screen is the big battery killer how are some review sites claiming to have gotten over 5 hours web browsing and over 10 hours of video?

I'm getting 24hours from a full charge with about 4 hours screen time.

I agree, not sure how the review sites are getting those stats from. I can't see any way that I could have my screen on for 10 hours. And if I was constantly browsing I doubt I'd get 5 hours.

Even the 4 to 4.5 screen hours isn't great. I live in Galway, so a train trip to Dublin and back would wipe my battery. I definitely got more out of the iPhone 4.

Yeah, I like firefox. It's very easy to add a new tab on it. I find that Facebook doesn't load properly on it though: it looks like just the text comes in, even though images load on other websites

Are you in a bad coverage area? That cell standby seems really high, like its putting a lot of power into keeping a connection

I think that when a review is done on screen/video/general usage it's under condition's that don't fully reflect 'normal' day to day life.

I would suppose they are freshly formatted, left to settle and sync up for a while and then tested in one place. This could mean they wont have loads of apps looking for updates during the tests and as the phone it's self is not moved from place to place like it would be if it was on your person, it does not have to deal with varying GSM/WIFI signal changes.

If true this would show huge usage differences between reviews on-line and to real world usage.

    Something like this I mean:

Whats the story with the dropbox free space ? I have signed up, logged in on my phone, viewed files I have put buts its still only at 2gb. Did you have to have an account prior to buying the S3 ?

Go to "getting started" or whatever they call it. You have to do some silly but simple things like start a sharing folder to get the 48Gb extra.

Do people here leave on "Mobile Data" when theyre not roaming the internet or using apps that need it ???

Im unsure whether it drains battery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Zagato

It does drain the battery, as does being connected to 3g network instead of 2g when no using data.

I think most people leave the data on, as you need to in order to get push services or sync updates

Cheers, got it going now, you have to complete 5 of the 7 getting started tasks

Anyone know if O2 plan on sorting out their prices on the S3 any time soon? They're ridiculously expensive compared to basically everyone but vodafone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭kenyard

neither voda or o2 will do anything i guess..they always do this.. they have the market already and i have no idea why or how lol. i got the phone from o2 on the 6 month contract.. works out the same as buying the phone but dont want to tie myself to a 18 month contract or 24 which is all the others are offering. will switch to 48 prepay after this 6 months i reckon.
emobile are the best offer out there.

on the topic of accesories.. who has gotten what?
got myself a phone cover and screen protector.. thinking i might just get a gel case now as the cover annoys me opening it sometimes just as its the extra 2 seconds...

wondering where to get a mhl cable for cheap? doesnt seem any below the 30 euro mark official one :/
anyone any ideas? its my major perogative atm to get one for usb connection and then connect to tv and also maybe simulatenously game controller.

I've been offered a "gold level" upgrade from O2 which is pricing the phone at €319, regardless of the length of the contract I'm interested in. The handset price remains the same whether I pick 6 months or 24 months, which is utterly bizarre.

I'm quite happy with O2 in terms of my package and their customer service, but the phone is €100 more than anywhere else I've seen it. I might just bite the bullet and pay it though to save me having to deal with nonsense like Meteor's €300 deposit that isn't returned for 6 months.

To be fair if your credit history is good then they will not ask for a deposit? I love meteor they price well and their customer service is quite good. O2 charges crazy money, its beyond me why they are still even factored into peoples decisions.

As far as I can see the only 3 networks in contention are Metoer / Three and E-Mobile.
