Right, who's in? And when are we going?
    Bags/dibs/nigs/pegs not organising it :P

    I nominate whoopsadaisydoodles as organiser

    Edited to add the following:

So the deal: Poll is multiple choice. Please choose all dates you are able to attend. If you want your vote to count, and you haven't done so already, pm me (whoopsadaisydoodles) to confirm your interest. If we have a clear winner, that will be the date that I get confirmed pricing for. If we have a tie, I will
put up another poll to choose the preferred date. I'll leave the first poll open for five days or until everyone who has pm'd me has voted - whichever comes first.
I'm going to go with a multi-choice pole. Simple reason being that if 10 people can go any date in January but all choose different dates, it dilutes those votes, and if three people vote for xmas/ny it will win. If you get what I'm trying to say.

So pick all the dates you can go, and then we'll go with the highest. That ok?

I'm making the poll public, and I'm going to count the people who have pm'd me a genuine interest in going to choose the date - that fair?

Edit: Oh, and then if five dates all win, we'll throw up another one choice poll to see when people would prefer

What dates suit? Read OP before voting. All Dates are Thursday to Sunday 44 votes

    The shop or the country?

If it's the shop, sure I'll carry four in the car myself. If it's the country it might need some more planning.

Count me out, it's far too dangerous.
There's an unacceptably high risk of running into kerry katona or that mad bird from the x factor.
    No, no, no:mad:

Please say dessert section as I love their baked alaska

Might be possible to do it cheaper than that. www.icelandexpress.com are a budget airline, they send me offers and sales all the time. Only the other day they had a sale on for flights in Autumn, return from Stansted worked out at €180. All you'd need then it to tack on a Dublin-Stansted return with Ryanair and you'd get there and back for €230.

All you need to do to see the northern lights is to get away from the city center at night, even 20km out of Reikavik should do it.

I might be up for this as have always wanted to go to Iceland. Wouldn't mind renting a car and going to see Gulfoss Waterfall and the Blue Lagoon, both of them aren't that far outside the capital and if you stayed out in a B&B near either then you'd likely see the Northern Lights at night time as a matter of course.

Also Iceland has gotten slightly cheaper than it used to be since their economy went kaboom so now is a good time to go before the return of their €6 pints :pac:

I'm just letting people know right now, that if ye're all just having some "haha, lets pretend we're going to Iceland" thread, and then pointing and laughing at me when I'm crying in the corner. I'm not going to he happy. Not happy at all.

    Glad that's cleared up.

So. When we going? I vote immediately after New Year.

I went there in 2007 before the arse fell out of their economy, and did a week for about €1000, flights with Ryanair/Iceland Express, rented a car (was there with a friend) and saw all of those sights, and a few more. Was this time 5 years ago so we had daytime round the clock.

Jokulsarlon ice lagoon worth a visit in the east of the country.

Immediately after New Year is cool with me. That should give enough time to get a basic understanding of the language too.
I notice the link RATM gave only goes as far as August - I presume that's poor website design as opposed to it being indicative of the service operating only during the summer months, já?

Oh aye - January will mean it's dark pretty much all day long... hmm...

Well that means it's night time all day long. Which means we should be in the pub.

And language, really? Ok cool, I'm sticking with you then. Mine's a pint :D

    14th - 17th February
I can see the Northern Lights from my front window (not right now obviously) and there are neither coke nor hookers in Iceland.

Only for that I would really go too, honestly.

I've no intention of spending my Icelandic sojourn in a pub!
And I doubt I'll have any useful Icelandic phrases, though one never knows what sort of situation one might fight oneself in...

Good idea! Going to an AH beers in town is too much hassle, but an AH trip to Iceland sounds spot on!

But I'm having beer in the airport. That's the law.

A few years ago, yes, now, not so much, their currency is still devalued against the euro to help exports.

It's not cheap, but it's not Olso either.

My dad doesn't know what the northern lights are!
He thinks its when there is light from the sun still in the north - you know at the peak of the summer solstice and there's always a bit of light to the north.

Anyway I've shown him pictures on my phone and and how it gives off different colours but no. He still just doesn't get it.
    F/cking dumbass or what:rolleyes:
