You should be able to watch one channel and record one thats onthe same transponder/mux?
I hadn't thought of that :o, I was just trying to justify getting a Ka Band Lnb, so I could go messing around with Saorsat.

Does the Ariva have this "semi twin-tuner" ability though? (Edit: Yes it does).

You're right, it's actually the Triax that doesn't.

The issue is one of future use and limitations of Ariva twin tuner e.g. When Mux2 launches and potentially more channels appear, will you be able to record say TV3 (DTT Mux1) but want to watch 3Kids which may not be on Saorsat and assuming on Mux2.

As an Ariva owner, love the box but this is potential(actual ?) Limitation of the system. Don't believe you can add tuners to this model.

Obviously if you have compatable Saorview TV there is work around of using built in tuner.

I have been trying to download the latest 2.18B2 (01 April) firmware from the Ferguson website at
    www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/ariva-120-combo/

Unfortunately I keep getting a download limit error:
-You have downloaded this file 0 times in the last 24 hours, limit is 5.
-Your file downloads total 10 in the last 24 hours, limit is 10.
    -A120Combo_2.18B2.zip
-Sorry, your download limit has been reached

I havent downloaded anything from there for months. If anyone has a copy, perhaps with a channel list, could they put it on mediafire.com for download?

    Thanks.

OOPS, I see the post above probably has it at the link. Thanks.

Pretend like you didn't read the answer then..... it is actually a potential solution though as RTE2HD will be on a seperate Mux to RTE1 anyhow ? :)

    ..... MPEG4 H264 Pt 10 (AVC).

So you end up having to transcode to X264 so that the Ferguson can read the files. It expects a MPEG4 H264 AVC file. It doesnt matter what wrapper it is in (AVI/MKV/MP4 etc).

    Guys,
I used to play .AVI files on my Lidl SilverCrest DVD player, now most of the files I get are .MP4. I've tried playing them on the Ariva 120 and all goes well for the first 10 - 20 seconds then the picture freezes while the audio continues. This is not consistent, if I stop and restart the MP4 I may see a few seconds further before the picture freezes. If I rewind I can see some of the missed video frames and if I play from the point it froze I can see the next 10 to 20 seconds.
I've tried different files, from different sources, played from a USB stick and a hard drive, same symptoms with all.
The files always play perfectly on the PC on VLC player, typically the codec information is:

    Stream 0
    Type: Video
    Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part10) (avc1)
    Resolution: 720x404
    Frame rate: 23.976023
    Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
    Stream 1
    Type: Audio
    Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample rate: 48000 Hz

My firmware is 4 months old - 2.17B3. Should I expect anything better from 2.18 or do I need learn how to re-encode the files?

    Change Frame rate to 25.......

Re-encoding unfortunately unless the likes of mP4box helps. There is a tool cant remember which one it is....

    That IS the problem...

Mind you, I find running mp4/ts files through mkvmerge and exporting/converting to mkv can also proof quite fruitful a lot of the time.

And then to transfer it onto another stb, just userdb?

Its depends , if the other 120 STB has the same firmware then yes userdb is fine but if not you need to use allcode and bootloader to load both firmware and channel list together.

A lot of chat about new services coming such as UKTV catchup service but which need G2 spec hardware - how is Ariva 120 fixed to handle this ?

It will not have this but thats not really surprising as its not a freesat box.

Hi every one I wrote on here back on page 28 about a problem I had with my newly installed Ariva 120 Dish and Aerial. Just want to say thanks to you all and especially lensman for all your well intended suggestions to help me remedy the fault. The box just stopped working one morning 2 weeks after me having it installed and nothing was showing at all in the display. I changed the plug as was suggested to me but still nothing. The guy who supplied and fitted it came out to me 4 days later and replaced the box with another brand new one, also tvtrade.ie offered to upgrade the box to an Optium CX61 for a small extra charge of 8.75. Which they said was a much better box with no problems or returns since they had been selling it unlike the Ariva 120 which has caused a lot of faults and returns. I was just happy to have the Ariva replaced. I bought the Ariva 120 with Sky Dish Aerial and complete installation for 160 euros from James of Scan tv. I think he offers a great service and at an unbelievably great price. I would have happily fitted it myself as I used to do this on the side nearly 15 or so years ago in England with scanned sky cards, but at that price i didn't need to. most places want 350 to 450 and the cheapest DIY job lot i found was euro s. I think Scan tv wins hands down and I would recomend them to ant one great price and great service when I was unlucky enough to have something go wrong. Thanks every one p

DIY kit 190euros sorry i forgot to put the price in of the cheapest Diy kit i could find which was 30euro dearer than what I paid to buy the Ariva 120 Dish Aerial and installation all for 160euro, I wonder how some companies can justify charging 350 plus for the complete kit and installation when you can get it all and installed for 160 it baffles me

I was wondering how you got on afterwards,...you got sorted anyway,..are you running patched firmware BTW?

I haven't had to do anything really with the box except sort out the channels that i wanted watch. It was already pre- programmed but I still did a scan and search and came up with about 400 channels mostly foreign and advertising so i just deleted what I didn't want and sorted out a favourite list and put them all in the order that I wanted so I have about 105 channels that I might watch from time to time and i deleted all the repeated channels like ITV and BBc regional. I am very happy with the whole set up and it all works brilliantly.

You cannot get "it all and installed" for 160. Not a chance, so stop winding people up.

I did get it all and installed for 160 check it out four yourself on Donedeal ScanTv there are others who will do it for 190 and 210 and I know a guy who installs for 30 euro up 50 depending on whether its a balcony or roof top. I use to fit satellite on the BSB satellite in the mid nineties and even i would do it for that. Plus u can buy the complete DIY kit now for 110euro

+ Lash kit and cradle, 2m pole, a good few metres of cable, connectors/combiners, cable ties, clips etc??? It all adds up. Not to mention covering the price of diesel for the van, public liability insurance and VAT.

    You're having a giraffe, right?

Its very easy to justify and there is nothing baffling about it. Most reputable companies pay VAT, Tax on profits, public liability insurance and make enough margin to stay in business for the long term.
