Hey guys. I have my official diagnosis and letter of referral from Dr. Lisa Brinkmann. How should I go about things now? She told me to give it to my doctor and get them to send it to Loughlinstown. But to who and where do I actually send it, and is there anything else I need to include?

Unless one of the other guys or girls know better, I would actually suggest giving it into your Doctor to forward it onto Loughlinstown. Be sure to make a photo copy or two and get an address off your Doctor, for the following reason:

Give Loughlinstown a few days to receive your diagnosis letter, then haunt them with phone calls to see about a date. If they lose your letter, then you have a photocopy you can send again.

They can be a bit infuriating to deal with, but be patient. That is why I would suggest you have your Doctor send the letter first.

The specific person you need to send it to is Prof. Donal O'Shea in the endocrine unit of St. Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin.

O'Shea needs two things before he will prescribe hormones - a clear diagnosis of GID, and a clean bill of health. It sounds like you have the former. You might consider getting a complete health check - notably including a full blood test - in order to convince him of the latter.

I had some blood tests done yesterday.

When I was talking to the other trans in the group, they said they'd never been charged for it(if they held a medical card). I can't afford to pay 20 euros every time I Need it done on hormones, in particular.

    Then I read this - http://www.examiner.ie/breakingnews/ireland/hse-to-fine-doctors-who-charge-medical-card-holders-for-blood-tests-524788.html

    http://www.medicalindependent.ie/page.aspx?title=doctors_warned_not_to_charge_gms_patients_for_blood_tests

I'm pretty angry with my doctor if that is the case. However, finding a supportive doctor can be difficult and it would be so stressful to try and build up a new relationship with another doctor.

What should I do? I find it very hard to have a good relationship with someone who did this all the same. I may settle with this unrelated bloodtest being charged with but not from now on.

Where did you see those stats? And what are they - the stats for those who seek medical intervention?
I have sometimes wondered about these figures as well, I remember having this discussion with my brother some years ago, I have 3brothers but 1 brother could never except my transition, he said at the time, he could fully understand a woman wanting to be a man but could never understand a man wanting to be a woman, surrendering male privilege and all that rubbish, he even tried to talk me out of it, specially when I was going for the final surgery, after all these years he might ask sometimes do I have any regrets, I don't, he might sometimes say ''its a mans world'' sometimes he'll joke, ''its more expensive being a woman'' well it is, men can get a hair cut for 5euro, I spend a small fortune on my hair, colouring, different hair sprays, volumizing shampoo and conditioner etc etc. if being a man is so wonderful why does it appear that theres more M/F Personal myself, I love being a woman, its hard work sometimes, fashion and style and all the other ''female privileges'' being married to a guy who knows how to treat a woman.

and that's what we call misogyny.

not necessarily, if you had asked him if the shoe was on the other foot and that he wouldnt change for a partner in the same way then it is.

tbh I think that there is a lot of hate for a lot of guys on threads like these, i posted in one before and got flamed for asking fairly innocent question despite the fact that i was not being misogynistic in the slightest. A decent amount of the hostility seems to be of the line "you dont get it," despite the fact that some are genuinely tryin to educated themselves on the matter.

As for guys who are into trans (pre op that is as it seems to be the one that causes consternation) , is that any different from a guy who would only be cisgirls? Would a guy be ridiculed if his preference was reversed?

    Edit:

Found a list of terms on TENIs website -quite useful to have it

    http://www.teni.ie/page.aspx?contentid=139

This is the kind of thing that would have solved a lot of hassle for people too. "Oh no, I used the wrong term!" Well a of a lot of people aren't sure of the differences between terms and the connotation involved.

Mod Note: This is for questions relating to trans issues. Please start a new thread on misogyny if you wish. I won't repeat myself and will start deleting unrelated posts.

Has anyone advice on finding an apartment? I'm living with friends short term. I haven't presented in public but I'm slowly getting more confident doing it about the house. I should probably get an apartment on my own but sharing would be a significant saving.
