Support streaks are a bad idea, badly implemented.

I hate whiners I play support most of the time since my lag is seriously fooked up loved to run assault but you know with bullets turning corners and all that jazz it's unpractical
If you have a game that did not handicap you in the first place and put you roughly a tenth or so of a second behind someone you just have to man up and stop whinging and get on with it instead of those pesky emp's, the same people whinging would not be bothered talking out air support

This is from the MOAB thread but I didn't want to derail that.

I thought support KS were a good idea at first but the more I play the game the more I'd love them to be taken out - maybe move EMP, Recon Drone, Advanced UAV , Juggernaut and Stealth Bomber to the Assault streaks and take out the Assault Drone, Strafe Run, Overwatch and Sentry Gun.

Might see a little less assassin going around if we had no more support streaks.

Also, I agree that Specialist is the bomb.

    What? Maybe 1%? 2%?

The majority of players are cowards who cave in to the easiest and cheapest set ups (guns, perks, killstreaks) possible so to cater for their pub stomping little egos.

Only thing that is gonna reduce assassin/ghost users is stopping power.

Should have stopping power, juggernaut, blind eye, assassin and dead silence in the same tier, that would solve the problem. It was never a problem until Blops but even then the sr71 made it less of a problem than in mw3. People have little choice but to run assassin though with the constant Uav spam.

I ran support as well, well I did when I had the game because I liked to make sure my entire team benefited from whatever I earned as well as just me. Do I need to run support? No. In MW2, I preferred running 3-4-5 for the most part. For the vast majority of BOPS I used 3-4-8 and it is pure heaven because I didn't need to stop. I just run, run and run while my team benefits.

I do get on the otherhand that it can be a bit overwhelming but sure CoD is just that a lot of the times.

Tis kinda cute how many people are fawning at the mouth in praise of specialist package in their hunt for the holy grail know as the precious MOAB though. Few people I've played with run it all the time and their W/L is comically bad because while they get good scores more often than not, they aren't helping the team. But sure, at least they top scored lol.

Long story, short. All the packages have something that could have a black mark against them depending on one's outlook. Really. They should just have sticked with CoD4's killstreak pattern, or tweaked it. If I had my way, everyone would play with killstreaks or what I said in the last line. But that's not gonna happen with IW at least. I hope Vahn and co. perfects it or gets close to it.

grenade or claymore , would have been nice to have both

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,137 ✭✭✭Balfie

go with claymore if I was u, or even bettys..

For a grenade to work in Mw3, you literally have to take your hand off the controller, shove in in the tv, stick the grenade in the blokes rectum, hoping he doesn't call the police for raping him. That's the only way.. Grenades in this game seriously suck balls.. Direct impact I have seen people survive.. Just useless all together..

ive seen plenty walk away from claymores too , dont think they have same power as they did in blops , plus I miss Mr.Thomas hawk from blops , had some great kills with that

On balance you will definately get more kills per game with claymores than grenades imo, even with stalker pro users running about.

Advanced UAV can be taken out with one stinger and/or dealt with via counter-uav, whereas in Black Ops the Blackbird could only be countered by anti-uav. There was more of a cause to use Ghost in Black Ops.

It's just plain laziness people running assassin in MW3. Carry a stinger and get some easy points ffs!

Mind you, Assassin Pro is an all singing, all dancing perk which does much more. If they limited it in that regard perhaps there may be less people running it.

FTR I have assassin in one of my 8 classes... which I use while on my own, where the opposition is spamming UAV, Counter UAV, Advanced UAV and I'd spend most of my time looking upwards leaving me to get shot in the back

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

I use assassin for the whole no red name tag thing, I think that's quite useful!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,426 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

    I predominantly use assassin. Why wouldn't I?
Hardline - will use now and again.
Quickdraw - can be useful in certain situations.
Blastshield - might have been worthwhile if grenades were lethal
Overkill - meh, always run the stinger (except sniper class)

If there was a decent alternative like stopping power I'd use that but not using the best perk because other people feel it's cheap is just never going to be a valid argument.

Aye, I'd be the same since MW2. Always had an anti air class just incase. I have zero problem with people doing similar, but it's when people are so utterly dependent on it because it does slow the game down. Tis annoying, albeit SLIGHTLY understandable in MW3 but tendency for many assassin users was to use ghost in BOPS (not saying all just to stress)! What were people's excuse for that... UAV spam? Me arse. Very rare that UAV spam was an issue unless against a somewhat decent party, and that's rare enough especially considering the majority of folk here run in parties of decent pub players themselves.

    C4 all the way

Yeah really need to learn how to use c4 properly. I overused claymores on MW2/blops. They're not as good this time round

Nail on the head really. If you want a team win support is the way to go. If you want a personal win use specialist. I must admit I'm guilty of normally starting games using specialist and if I feel we're capable of winning AND being able to use specialist then I'll continue to use it. If not I will definitely switch to a support class.

On the subject of specialist though I'd like some clarification as I've often heard this but I've never seen actual confirmation of it. When you unlock all the perks do you also unlock all proficiencies for your gun at the same time?

On a side not I was playing a game on Arkaden the other day and this one guy was camping outrageously behind the counter in the burger king type place downstairs. I mean EVERY time I killed him he was there, tactical insertion the works. Afterwards I sent him a message saying "Can I have fries with that??" It was compounded by the fact that he was oblivious as to what I was insinuating! :D

Re-reading my post from last night. I should point out I meant people who run specialist from what I've seen have ****e W/L, and not because the quit mid-game. You're stats from vague memory were pretty good from what I remember when I played MW3 with yourself.

I've used specialist myself on occasion so I'd be a liar to say if I haven't tried it, I'd say around 10 times I've used it. But not running in full parties in MW3 there was the odd stupid loss or two thrown in there. People can whine about support package all they want but fact of the matter is even when running specialist, you'll need someone doing the donkey work of taking down enemy air support and calling in UAV's and the like for those MOAB's. I honestly don't see the fascination in it tbh after you get you're first one. Hell even my one, I was more astonished than anything (due to my nuke curse as I mentioned in the MOAB thread). I did try a few more times after that when some crazy set ups but look back now I'am embarrassed tbh.

.. and yes I realise I've gone off topic but specialist and MOAB hunting/kill whoring go hand in hand. I think the entire killstreak system is plainly a cluster****. More isn't better. Activision and IW especially are incapable of realising that, and have history of this. Look at the Tony Hawk series :(

'Strike packages' aren't something everyone should get, in every game. That is not what they were originally designed for, however due to Mw3 people, no matter how good or bad they are feel they should be getting a few uavs etc in a game. Which is NOT how it should work. See cod4 for killstreaks implemented in a non game-breaking way.

Why dead silence? Its not in any way overpowered and is useful soley in SnD. Putting it in the same tier as Stopping Power would make it redundant.

I don't necessarily agree with his post, but it'd be interesting.

I can't see your picture but it would mean that people with headsets would have an even bigger advantage over people without headsets.

edit: nvm misread your post :D

anyone any suggestions on the best all round gun , ive been using the pp90 but its terrible at medium to long range , even with the long range attachment/boost ??

    ACR - Red dot sight - Kick/Focus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,426 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

    any sniper rifle............

seriously all guns have their own pros and cons. The MP7 is probably my favourite. I always use it silenced and include range but do use rapid fire instead in S&D.

will depend on your play style to a certain extent.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 100 ✭✭alandublin33

does anyone else think the guns in mw3 are far more jerky than previous games , I never had a problem with shot bunching as much as I do in mw3 , maybe Im gettin old :D

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 6,340 Mod ✭✭✭✭PerrinV2

I rarely run assault and have almost stopped running support.I mean I only ever ran uav and cauv but I got sick of the length of time it took to call them in.Now maybe thats sounds stupid as it only takes a second or so but compared to previous games its a lifetime.
I do still have support class's(anti air, riot shield,1 shotgun class) but I just run specialist and don't worry about having to call in streaks support or assault.Although if the situation calls for it I'll throw back on support
Anyway it looks like ajoke telephone anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

if you have either soh or quickdraw on it makes it faster to call in uavs, cant remember which one tbh, it is way too long though i dunno how many times i've called one in when i thought the coast was clear and got shot as i was pushing the button, annoying
