If that report is true (a big IF), then obviously Suarez has explaining to do. However, should Evra not have similar explaining to do?

I would imagine that referring to someone by their nationality (or their continent) would come under the strict definition of racist?

Also, if he accused Marriner of booking him because he is black (big IF again), then surely he should be in trouble for playing the race card himself??

I'm a Liverpool fan but this shouldn't be about Liverpool V Man Utd. If the report is true then neither player comes off in a good light and fans, regardless of allegiance, should at least have the decency to admit that there seems to be a pair of them in it.

Good distraction tactics from the fact Evra wouldn't dream of playing the race card that has been mentioned here so often

Which you are also using, seeing as Liverpool fans clung on to the "negrito" defence for so long.

    Well played.

Negro is the correct term for a black man is it not?

The correct answer is no, negro is not the correct term for a black person, and many would find it extremely offensive.

    Mod Note:

I would caution everyone, since this thread has started again, that everyone thinks carefully before they post. This thread has resulted in a awful lot of infractions and bannings.

IMO suarez should get a long ban and set the example that players using racists term will be severely punished.

    Why wouldn't you?

My point is this, if you wouldn't use that word there must be a reason for that.

Do you apply this reasoning all the time, or just when it suits you?

Its not politically correct to use it i suppose, even though i dont consider it a racist thing to say, if i was south amercian it may be normal for me to use it.

The incident did not take place in South America. the comment was not directed towards a South American black man.

The onus is ALWAYS on the visitor to educate themselves to societal norms as to what is and is not acceptable in a country/area to which they move.

If he was being racially abused through out the game then he could have been sensitive to it. A lot of players from either side got away with fouls that could have been yellows before that.

Yes it may be normal for you to use it, then again maybe it's not.

If it is used in SA that's alright to say....in SA. He has been in Holland for three years and at Liverpool nearly a year. If I am in SA and 'What's the craic' can be construed as something offensive then guess what? I will not not use that phrase while I am in SA.

You do realise we are taking about a game of football here, what are your views on Evras comments about the ref.

If the comments attributed to Evra are true, then it was a grossly idiotic thing to say.

What do you think my views would be?

Did you think I'd try to defend him because he plays for Man U?

    I'm not you brah.

I expected you to say that, you cant really defend stupidity of that highest order, why didnt he say this in his interview after the game.

This will go down as a ridiculous misunderstanding and rightly so .

But it shouldn't be left at that .The FA should now update its policy/rules on racism in the game so no such incidents can ever occur again .

Listen footballers aren't the brightest of people in most occasions, both players ****ed up, but if you want me to come out and admit i think suarez is a racist i cant because i truly don't think he is.

What I find interesting is that two lads can remember what they said during a game of footie. When I play, I say a lot but don't remember half of it when the game is finished.

Besides that I don't like people calling for punishment because English culture doesn't tolerate certain things.
What I mean is that you could go to Hungary and clink glasses, or Pakistan and kiss a girl in public, or India and ask for beef or Thailand and insult the monarchy. All of these things would be offensive to people in those countries but is acceptable in this part of the world.
The use of any word needs to be put into context rather than just a black and white decision.
If there was racist intentions about those words, then he deserves to be punished, but if he was simply identifying a person based on their physical attributes without any malice intended then he should not be punished.

I don't think he is a racist either, as it happens.

I do think he used the term in a racist way, in this incident, though. And for that he should be punished.

Why would you do those things in those countries, if you knew it was going to cause offence?

    .

No. That's not true at all :pac:

If found guilty what is the min/max ban he will be getting?

Could evra get banned for accusing the Ref of acting in a racist way, what kind of ban could he expect.

Unless the ref reported it, then I'd say not tbh.
