Mac OS X Lion will be available on USB thumb drive for $69 in August

For those who want to have their copy of Lion saved on a physical medium, Apple will make the Mac OS X upgrade available on a USB thumb drive through its online store in August, but at a cost more than twice the price of the Mac App Store.

Apple revealed on Wednesday that Lion will be available on a USB thumb drive through its online store "later this August." It will carry a price of $69, or more than twice the $29.99 cost of downloading Lion from the Mac App Store.

What was the reason for switching the scrolling?

If you have an iPad or iPhone you move your finger from bottom to top to scroll down, and vice versa. They were trying to mimic this in Lion.

What was the reason for switching the scrolling?

A miserable attempt to make things more iPhone like, i.e. moving the content rather than the "frame". Apparently some people actually love it that way.

Personally, it doesn't make sense to me, as it sort of conflicts with the way the brain/hand moves the actual cursor.

They have actually made the already fiddley "traffic lights" SMALLER. This was already a pet hate of mine. Now it's just ridiculous.

I can't say I've ever used those fellas tbh. If I want to close or minimize the screen I just use command+H for hide instead, and if I want to change the window size I just drag from the corner.

    First impressions:

    1. I have to go up to go down and down to go up with my magic mouse - Fixed (thanks to post above)
    2. The full screen option doesn't work for Chrome.

I set up as a new user to see the standard set up, highly recommend to try it.

going to try the reversed scrolling for a little while and see how it goes, wondering will it cause a problem using windows then??

for those using parallels, theres a new version there, with improved compatibility for LION.. 200+ mb download.

still cant find the DMG file to burn to disc as a backup for LION installation media.

seems like it gets deleted after upgrade?

As I said earlier, find the Install OSX icon (or whatever it's called) in Applications. Right click and select "show package contents". Then go into Contents /SharedSupport and there is a dmg file in there. That's your install disk. Burn to DVD with disk utility.

Scroll direction switched back, scroll bars enabled always. I like everything else so far!

Downloaded in 10 mins earlier today, installed in 35 mins on a 2011 iMac.

First impressions - they ditched the old login screen, hooray! Overall it seems a lot more polished. Time will tell if it was worth the €23.99!

Can you download it without installing it right away ?

I want to download it on one machine, not install it, use the dmg on another machine.

In fact it most likely is deleted after a successful install. You have to go back into the app store and into the purchased section. Here you will see OS X Lion and it will say installed. Just hold the OPTION key and click on the OS X LION. This will redownload it for you.

There is a guide to all this on the apple support site
