Gah, Eircom, looking like this will take 3+ hours to download!

Double-tapping a word with 3 fingers is cool, as is the iOS like auto-correct.
Still trying to figure out how I go back a page in Safari - in SL you scrolled right with 3 fingers, but that doesn't work anymore.
Edit - now you scroll back using two fingers.

New scrolling taking some getting used to but not too bad. Not being able to flick back and forth through pages in Chrome is a bitch though. Might have to use Safari for the time being. :/

    Anyone else with this problem?

On my Imac I can't add my home folder to the sidebar. Under Finder Preferences the option is there to tick it and make it active but it won't tick 9it stays blank).

However on my Macbook Air I can tick it so I can get it there. I've checked the settings and they're the exact same on both.

Any idea why I can no longer pinch zoom icons in Finder? Seems an odd thing to remove.

In fact it most likely is deleted after a successful install. You have to go back into the app store and into the purchased section. Here you will see OS X Lion and it will say installed. Just hold the OPTION key and click on the OS X LION. This will redownload it for you.

There is a guide to all this on the apple support site

tried the option key, and the icon shows as €23.99 like its going to re charge me ,,

edit, just found this link, http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12980779&postcount=2 guess i am out of luck

that a load of cack really. what if i need to reinstall if the HDD dies, etc, its a pain not having the physical install media.

As I said earlier, find the Install OSX icon (or whatever it's called) in Applications. Right click and select "show package contents". Then go into Contents /SharedSupport and there is a dmg file in there. That's your install disk. Burn to DVD with disk utility.

as i said earlier, making the install disk after install of LION

So ok I'll try asking my question a different way. After you buy it and download it - does it auto install - or can you make an install disk from it without installing it on the machine you downloaded it on ?

    Anyone?:)

You would have to go Leopard -> Snow Leopard -> Loads of patches -> Lion. Ouch. :o You can clean install once you have the Lion Install application downloaded though.

So best bet would be to download Lion on my current HD. burn it to a DVD, then replace the hard drive, then instal lion via DVD?

Yeah, sounds good. When you download it from the App Store, it comes as an app, called "Install Mac OS X.app". Inside of the app bundle, there's a folder called "SharedSupport", and inside there there's a DMG called "InstallESD.dmg". Burn that to a disc, and you can use it to clean install whenever :)

don't know if this will be any use, but if you have App Store this might be the way to go
    &
for anyone that has yet to download Lion, but wants to create a bootable version so they can install on another mac & incase of Download limits etc.
if i was to install this on my two macs, i'd be downloading 8gbs,,, no thanks on my crappy download speeds.

    1.download it from App Store.
2.DONT INSTALL after downloading (it'll remove the necessary files)
    3. follow instruction here create boot disc
    4. after that, just pop in disc and anyway you go (hopefully, haven't done it myself yet, i have created the disc however,,, god i hope it works)

    5. i've just noticed as i'm typing this that if i spell something wrong its pops up a spell check, nice new safari.

(this might have be said before but reckon its worth mentioning again as people seem to be getting caught)

Can anyone tell me how much HDD space you need free to run the Lion install?

Also does installing it free up any HDD space?

So hang on, just downloaded it from the app store - should I copying it onto an external HD first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,644 ✭✭✭✭nesf

Hmm, fullscreen Safari is nice, would prefer for it to be fullscreen Chrome/Firefox and for the page changing gestures to work for both. Three Finger Swipe's new job is off-putting, I've changed home screen by accident far too many times now. Still, should get used to it.

Feels a bit slow though and a tad buggy. Getting delays where I really shouldn't and other bits and pieces need optimizing. Still, this could grow on me I think.

so um. Front row is gone. and so is the back button on my remote.

Im just finished downloading this onto my 2008 MBP. The first glitch i can see with it, is to do with the brightness. When os lion was installed my screen was black i could hardly see the text on it. i had to shine a torch against the screen so i could go in to system preferences and turn the brightness down to the lowest for it to work very strange. Has anyone else had this problem?

    hi funk,
thats what i did, (well i copied the dmg file to the desktop) and then i burnt a disc of it.
however, i wont be able to check until tomorrow when i load it on my Macbook(rip) to ensure that it works.
if it doesn't , i'll just have to re-download via App Store on my Macbook.:(

    i came across this.
    http://www.mac-hatter.com/blog/frontrowenablerforlion
again,, i can't confirm this yet,,, don't use front row much myself, so hopefully apple will release something in its place,,,
i presume there's a few people that would use it as a media centre so if its totally gone,, it would be a real pain

    Interesting thanks.

Front Row came on after installing that and rebooting, but it can't find any of my iTunes songs.

My back button might just be dead. Weird.

there has been a newer version of iTunes released since that post was put up so that might be causing the problem :(
(lesson learned here,,, dont post on day zero of release)
does it play the movies etc ok??

i'm using an old white remote with my iMac and its going thru iTunes back and forward ok (on Lion)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,852 ✭✭✭condra

It's not finding any of my music or videos. I think iTunes may have changed the exact location of its library.

It does play the online theatrical trailers etc.

Regarding the back button, I guess my (white) remote is skrewed. No biggy.

Is anyone else's smooth scrolling not working? I have the box ticked in the system preferences but scrolling still just stops when I 'flick' my fingers on the trackpad.

I'm using a Macbook Pro, and smooth scrolling is working as normal on our iMac which was upgraded as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,623 ✭✭✭milltown

Incoming now. Whole thing should take little over an hour, thanks UPC!
Got it with the up to date program for my 2 week old MBP. Hoping it's the same package they use as the retail one. Will save a copy of the .dmg if it is.

Going to upgrade the MBP first anyway seeing as it has a trackpad already. Birthday pressie trackpad for the iMac hasn't arrived yet so it can wait.

iMac and MBP now both running Lion now. Previously could file share between now they can see each other in Finder but "connection failed". Can still Screen Share. All Permissions seem ok - same as they ever were

Just upgraded this morning. Overall it seems like a great update. Fullscreen iTunes is a thing of beauty.

One word of warning though, if you use logmein.com a lot it might be a good idea to wait a bit. At the moment it just shows a blank screen when logging in remotely. A fix is due in the next few days.

I installed Lion last night on a Core 2 Duo 2ghz iMac with 4gb RAM. No performance issues.

Upgrade went fine but reading back on the thread I havent tested Front Row.

after installing Lion I was then prompted to download an updated iTunes.

Dont like reverse scrolling on the magic mouse so I reverted it to normal setting.

Is there way to swipe between tabs in Safari?
