I've already posted photos from the Saumur Tank museum in the WW I and WW II forums, As these are all post WW II up to present day I think its probably the best place. If a mod feels otherwise, please move.

The more I look at the pictures, the more I'm amazed by what is on display. Much better than Bovington if a touch underfunded. If you have spare cash and a few spare days, this place is well worth a visit.

More photos. A lot of what I'm posting is French, but there are military vehicles from all over the world except China.

Some more. I could go on all night. The Le Clerc along with the Merkava is a mean looking beast.

    And more from Saumur.

I might as well post some more as I'm away working for the next couple of weeks.

The pictures that are tagged Saumur I couldn't name with certainty. Maybe people can help out.

I was a bit freaked to see those photos put up by leicar- the T55 looks veerry similar to this one I snapped from a VAB when it had been taken on the way back from As Salman. That it's sitting in a French museum and the paintjob looks very similar- anyone think the same? Be some coincidence - huh?

That's so close to my dream's. If the mini gun could be controlled remotely from inside the cab it would be.

A question came up about the Irish 25 pounder ceremonial gun (this thread) at the time I couldn't find photos of the Irish gun..

Well that was until this afternoon.

Here it is in all its glory!.

Sorry for the big photos but these are the smallest I could reduce them while still keeping some detail.

Not a military vehicle, but a photo..

Does anyone recognize the location of this photo please?.

    AHQtakingover-a.jpg

It says "G.H.Q. Parkgate Street" but I'd be fairly confident in saying its wrong.

Anyone got any idea's or old photos of DFHQ?.

Just as a matter of interest Manic, what is the punishment for something like that in the States? Is it regarded as a crime?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 16,256 Mod ✭✭✭✭Manic Moran

    Not sure any more.

There was a piece of legislation called the Stolen Valor Act, which last I heard was struck down as being an unConstitutional infringement on the right of free speech. (Basically, it made even falsely claiming to have earned medals into a crime). Though the courts do seem to have made a distinction between the right to say what you want, and the right to actually wear what you want, but if memory serves, either the legislation was written in a way that the 'severance' couldn't be made, or the judge just didn't specify.

I saw this picture in the local paper today and I was wondering if it was common for Navy Corpsmen to wear Marine dress uniforms?

Marine Corps regulations permit Naval corpsmen, dental technicians and religious program specialists assigned to Marine units to wear the Service Uniform. Any Naval officer assigned to a Marine unit may also wear it. It is at the choice of the individual, but Marine appearance standards are stricter and must be met when the Service uniform is worn.
