It's good to have something to play for, even if it isn't your own teams position.

I dunno about ye, but I'm only still posting here to get to 2000 posts on a match thread.:pac:

    Has it been done before?

What are next weeks lotto numbers there actually?

Oh and while your at it, can you tell me when Liverpool will win their first Premiership trophy?

Haven't an iota. Though that's the same as Utd fans claiming what a deserved red card for Carragher could have led to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,134 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

He wouldn't have got a red card for the same offence. He may have got a red card for some other offence, who knows? But the events would not have followed the same pattern. Think about it, there would likely have been a substitution. Then Liverpool players would have had to switch around to suit whatever new formation they had. The free kick would have played out differently as Carragher would not have been there. The atmosphere in the stadium would have been different. Everything would be different so the same things literally could not happen. For play to lead to the Rafael tackle, the same players would have had to be in the same positions and do the same things. With a change in formation and personnel, that could not happen. Ergo, the Rafael tackle we are talking about would not have happened. Maybe a different one would have happened, but we don't know.

The difference between me saying that and the post I replied to is that I am saying I don't know what would have happened, whereas he was 100% sure of what would happen. I see that as a big difference. I still think it is likely Liverpool would have seen the game out and won, but it would have been a different game.

If you want to think like that go re watch the cup game and if Webb had of done his job then Gerrard would not have been sent off. After all Rafael (notice a trend) jumped in two footed and got away with it just before Gerrard did

Good man your exact knowledge of what may happen in hypothetical situations astounds.

Nothing hypothetical about it, my friend! We were beating you today!! It was just happening.

Now move on, take your spanking and try not let Arsenal overtake you's!

    (Hope they do though!! :p)

No going by his logic the game would have stopped Rafael sent off therefore Gerrard tackle would never have happened

The difference is Gerrard hasn't a history of embarrassing diving and play acting though.

    Its all cheating tbh.

There is no doubting he was badly injured today and in a lot of pain. I also think there's no hope he would've stayed off the pitch unless he was legit injured, contrary to what some are trying to suggest. Its not as simple as just stapling up the cut and running it off, there would be a huge amount of swelling etc.

Man you can't equate the play acting and crying of the likes of Nani to the diving of Gerrard and Rooney. Nani's actions are miles worse because they aren't just cheating, they are also shamefully embarrassing. Far more so than the cheating.

And you are assuming that he was badly injured. All I've seen is a bit of blood on TV and a grainy easily faked close up on the internet.

Are you denying that some players are tough and some players are just cowards and wimps? We don't know how bad his injury really was, but theatrics in front of the ref and his crying on the pitch is just more evidence of his wussynss. If there's anybody on the United team who I would suspect wouldn't be up for soldiering on after a bit of a knock, it's Nani.

    Edit:
Yes, if the doctor says to stay off, players stay off. If he legitimately had a large gash, then you can't play football with an open wound these days. There are safety and health reasons as well as the possible infections you can get. If the medical advice is to stay off, then they stay off.

Man that's just not true. Players play on all the time. Nani's injury could well have been so bad that he wouldn't have been able to play no matter how tough he was, but to say that you can't play on with an open wound full stop is very wrong.

You could say the same about Liverpool fans being more interested in getting embroiled defending Carra and criticising Rafael than enjoying their win. Depends on your perspective I guess.

No Liverpool fan is defending Carra. Should have been sent off. Without doubt. I did laugh when Nani cried though! That was brilliant!!

That's right Nani. Cry at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans!! See the bloke who scratched you? He limped off against Blackburn with a broken leg!!!!!

The stretcher was brilliant!! Poor Nani!!

Great performance by Liverpool today. Kuyt: 3 goals + covered every blade of grass again (he must have a name for each one by now!). Would personally give Suarez MOTM. Great to watch.

Its all cheating. Gerrard's starfish antics and simultaneous condemnation of diving is just as embarrassing as anything Nani did today. They're all reprehensible acts that need to be stamped out of the game.
And you are assuming that he was badly injured. All I've seen is a bit of blood on TV and a grainy easily faked close up on the internet.

I'm not assuming he's badly injured, I'm saying nobody really knows how badly injured he is, all we have to go on are some sh*tty pictures no one can agree on. I genuinely don't think he'd have come off unless he wasn't able to continue. There are all kinds of possibilities, such as hairline fractures, a deep would needing to be thoroughly leaned and dressed to avoid infection, the severe swelking that comes from such an injury. Are these not at the very least a possibility?

I'm not denying anything of the sort. I do think that Nani is made of sterner stuff than his play acting would suggest however. He's from a fairly tough background and seems to have a genuine desire to win and succeed about him. I remember him running himslef into the ground vs Munich last season and puking his ring up on the touchline and i was impressed with his drive and determination. There's a difference between playacting and chickening out of a game as well btw.

You are prepared to believe he wimped out, whereas I'm prepared to believe he was legit injured. We're both going off the same scanty evidence. We may never know for sure either way. There's little more to say about it after that really.

Yeah, then you didn't answer my question.

If you thought Gerrard's tackle in the FA cup wasn't a sending off, then do you think Rafael's tackle wasn't a sending off either?

My point was that Liverpool fans are equally guilty of getting embroiled in silly arguments as United fans, which was the point I was earlier responding to.

I've also explained this already. Keep up.

    Fair point.

I was thinking that earlier but didn't want to bring Webb into the "discussion".

If Gerrard was a red, so was Rafael.

Relax Parker, let them have their day.

Some of them are just intent on being smug and insulting, which is fairly embarresing given the positions of the two sides in the table, not to mention the points gap and being in the champions league.

Not all are like this, K-9 for example. Plenty of others.

Once again, superb!!! Loving it!! :pac:

It's our cup final. :pac: I always love that arguement from the Utd fans.:pac: Ferguson always knows this is the big one, yet Utd fans seem to think he is talking bollix!! They should probably respect their manager more. We really seem to be getting under their skin!!

This is our cup final lads, yet the Utd players were not up for it at all. The Utd players are clearly not there for the trophies, they're just there for the money.

So Man Utd are like Man City? And considering that City have considerably more money than Utd......wow, Utd are ****ed!!

I've been educated so much in this thread!!

By the way, embarrassing is spelt embarrassing!

Tbh, it's a compliment to Liverpool fans.

We used the same line during the 80's when we lost so they just copied it.

That's bollocks of the highest order imo. We're going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

Yep it's possible that it was really bad and impossible to play on on or it's possible that he could have played on.

Either way he still threw himself down over dramatically and balled his eyes out in front of hundreds of thousands of people. Yet more evidence that he's a wimp imo.

I've known plenty of wimps who were from tough areas and backgrounds. Being from a tough area doesn't make you tough.

I'm not basing my suspicion that he wussed out on the pictures of the injury. I'm basing it on his general attitude and personality.

BTW I do give him credit for running himself into the ground a few times. Fair play to him for that. And, like yourself (I think it was you that said it), I too thought he had cut the shíte-hawking out of his game recently and so was extra disappointed today.
