The bit in bold has been my point all along and is what I was talking about in the original point where we got into this back and forth. I was just pointing out that we don't know what would have happened. Of course it is likely they would have got more defensive, but anything else is guess work and conjecture. It is not beyond the realms of belief to say United might have scored twice against 10 men. Nor is it beyond belief to say Liverpool would have dug in and got the draw. We just don't know, the game would have massively changed.

But like a broken record, I'll say it again. We don't know what would have happened.

Well apparently it needed to be explained given the posts which laughed at the idea of a red card changing what happens afterwards. It is not as if that was my first attempt to explain that something different happening leads to something else that is different happening.

I know what you're saying and you're right of course, grinds my gears sometimes when commentators say "Team X should be 4 up at this stage", you're pissing against the wind bringing it into a football debate though.
