That's the one. That glazed over look in her eyes... *shudder*

In what way is a well researched, thought provoking documentary presented by one of Britain's foremost intellectuals pathetic or ignorant?

Its ignorant the say the humanity would be better off without religion. Many people have dedicated their lives to God doing good for humanity. Because there are some crackpot religious fanatics does not mean all good religious people believe the same.

Lack of religion would in no way whatsoever prevent those same people from continuing to do good for people.

People can't dedicate their lives to helping humanity without god?

I know of no atheists who have given their lives for free to a good cause. (not saying they don't exist, just I have heard of none) I know of many religous people who have dedicated their lives to god to help others.

The reality is people with faith have a deeper commitment to humanity than those without it.

I'm not going to watch it again since I can do without the concomitant increase in blood pressure, but isn't this the one that in which Dawkins weathers Wright's abominable ramblings for longer than any thinking human could, then says "I must confess to feeling slightly frustrated..."

I got to the bit that was like this:

Wright: Theres no evidence for macro-evolution

Dawkins: Yes there is and heres why

    Wright: No

    Dawkins: Yes

    Wright: No times a million.

    Dawkins: Yes times infinity.

Wright: No times infinity + 1

    ...

    Retarded picture from magicmarker

That is the point about atheists. You think all those not in your camp are retarded.

    Ever heard of,

No denomination. They do a bit of helping out here and there.

    Or:
    http://www.redcross.org/
    United Nations Children's Fund
    Oxfam International
    International Peace Institute
    www.amnesty.org.uk

But apart from them (and about a few hundred others), no, atheists never give their lives or time for free to a good cause. Now, where's that 'Implied Face Palm' picture - that would work perfectly here.....oh..

Oh I see; this is a compliling lists of good people game. If you get more religous people it proves that religous are better than atheists....?:D

Dawkins says the world would be better without religion. So of the many who profess no faith or don't believe in god who has done as much as mother teresa (I use her as an example)

You great at your smart remarks... but you lack any discussion.

A quote from the person in question:

"Even deep down… there is nothing but emptiness and darkness... If there be God — please forgive me."

There is ongoing debate about Mother Teresa's faith, so her works, noble or not (and that is certainly questionable) may not have been attributable to her faith.

Typical response from someone who knows nothing about her. (or her faith).

Going back to my original question... Name 1 atheist who has given his/her life for free to a good cause.

Before you use Mother Teresa as your pin up girl, why not find out a little more about her first?

Did Mother Teresa give her life for free? That's news to me.

She had no money and would not take money from anyone. She worked with the poorest. There was no financial gain in her work. She did it for God.

to Pick an example Jozef De Veuster.

Sorry mate but that's a load of me arse as has been pointed out by others. There is no connection in believing in a magic man in the sky (or outside the universe or wherever science has pushed him back to) and caring about people

Maybe you never noticed non-religious people doing it because they don't do it in the name of non-religion.........?

Interesting, I can't see where he says he gave his life for free though? Are you saying he received no money whatsoever in all his time as a priest?

Doesn't say a lot for the catholic church now does it? In fact that's pretty inhumane if you ask me.

Well I beleive (and so do millions of others) that god calls people to give their lives to him by helping others.

So if dawkins advocates that the world would be better off without religion then name a person (1 person ) who has dedicated their life totally to humanity.

Are we dropping the ''free'' pre-requisite now?
