Just put it on the planner - thanks branie.

I knew I'd seen an ad for it on TV - but for some reason I thought it was RTE.

Is this a repeat of a show that was on previously or something new? I remember watching The Root of all Evil - but not this.

    (9pm tonight, btw)

I'm able to series link it so it must be, well, a series. :D

I've got Sky and it's showing on More 4 at 21:00 and 12:05 tonight. The blurb for both states "Professor Richard Dawkins launches a wholehearted attack on religion as the cause for much of the pain and suffering in the world." Looks like the same show, just shown twice. I can series-link the first one, but not the second showing.

So it's a repeat? Bah, 4od is one of my gods :pac:

This is the same. When RTE Showed ROAE it was shown in two parts.
"Root of all Evil - The God Delusion" was the second part, can't remember what the first part was called.:o

    Suspected as much, cheers. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've watched this one before. Might watch it again though if nothing else is on.

Yep, planning to watch it. I'm also attempting to get the mother to watch it ;)

Lol, I remember when Tubs was interviewing Dawkins on The Late Late Show and my mother was watching. She thought Dawkins was a loony and was just laughing at his crazy notions. Tubs fault really, I'd expected a conversation on the beauty of diversity by evolution but not to be.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of people were.

What a gob****e tubs was for that interview! Pat Kenny would have done so much better!

Just watching that on youtube now because I hadn't seen it at the time.

So far it's basically a "justify yourself, you freak" type interview :(

    When did Kenny interview him?

Indeed. Pat actually gave him a bit of time to answer his questions.

And I thought the guy on with him was quite reasonable. Could have been a lot worse.

    Wha??
Well obviously if they're aliens they're no longer supernatural.;)

I watched the interview and it was miles better than Tub's version! At least there was some kind of constructive dialogue, until that is, when the philosopher brought up the whole alien thing

I wish I could say the audience's questions were not as expected.

Do you or anybody else not find it a bit funny if not foolish, that he denies all existence of anything other than what's here now yet he believes in aliens?

He doesn't deny all existence of anything other than what's here now. He does not believe in any supernatural god. There's a difference.

The universe is incredibly big, and it is expanding. Not only is it expanding, but the rate at which it is expanding is increasing. Aliens not existing is extremely unlikely.

Ted Haggard has a very punchable face.

Well, he's the guy who went on Oprah after being found to be gay, saying that he was cured of his "homosexual urges".

ted haggard is an absolute mongo

dawkins gets wound up and agitated too easily, although it would be hard not to when faced with that

Did he say he believes in aliens?

He said it's very probable or something like that and didn't deny believing in them.

Well he denies anything supernatural etc. and to me believing in aliens sounds well..foolish really.

Anyway,I've never really been a fan of Dawkins' views so I'm not liking this documentary so far, arguments from both sides are equally as bad.
While I'd agree with Dawkins more than the born again Christians I still think he's acting as bad them.

Yes he said it's very probably that there are aliens. Aliens are not supernatural.

As a christian, it's rather naive of you to believe in God, but think believing in aliens is ''foolish''. You seriously believe that this universe was ''made'' just for us? That there are billions upon billions of lifeless planets out there?

It's perfectly logical to think that we are not alone.

We exist. Why is it so foolish to believe that what happened here could have happened on one of the trillions of other planets in the universe?

Believing that it's possible that aliens exist doesn't mean believing that they've visited earth and landed in Roswell etc if that's what you mean

I don't see how you can call yourself an atheist in fairness.

People (Well, I) assume you're not an atheist because from what I see, most of your posts (recently anyway) have been nothing but religious apologetics. Even trying to point out that Dawkins is somehow being hypocritical by saying there's a good probability that aliens exist, when he's making a perfectly good speculation!

Yes I am thinking about it right now but I do still believe in evolution so I'm not entirely sure.
    Religious apologetics?Hmm..
I still don't see how you can stand up for him when he clearly just has a hatred for religion and thinks people who believe in god are deluded.
Thanks for making me feel welcome in the forum btw.

I'm sorry, I don't understand who you're trying to fool. If you're thinking of rejoining a christian church, then you're not an atheist. An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in a deity, that's not you, clearly! Maybe a deist, possibly a pantheist, maybe even a full blown theist, but not an atheist.

How does he have a hatred for religion? Can you please explain this to me?

As for making you feel unwelcome? I'm not here to offer a cuddle, if you don't want your views challenged then you know what to do.

Yeah I see what you mean but of course there are far more atheists now than there were say, even 20 years ago in Ireland and I feel that number will continue to grow so I don't see why he's so worried/frustrated.

Are you listening to what he's saying? About growing numbers of faith schools, attempts to teach creationism alongside science? He's not talking about Ireland, by the way ;)
