Have you skipped forward to the 3rd part, 3/7? At 2:25 she makes a HUGE slip up, "...God uses a form of creation, where evolution is a part of that... um, urg, let me back up on that..."

I mean, the whole thing is one entire slip up really. I just honestly think most of these people don't understand evolution at all. Maybe it's an intelligence type thing. The fact she kept saying "slime to man".

I wonder after that interview when she went home and was eating dinner or putting her children to sleep was she thinking in anyway, hmm, I really should take another look at this evolution thing.

No, she probably walked away even more convinced she's right. This is the problem with giving these people debates (hence why Dawkins no longer entertains them); it lends credence to their standpoint because they think there's something to debate over. The truth does not care about our egos and what Wendy and her ilk need understand is that we're not that special; not god's wonderful creation, we're deluded animals with a proneness to believing illusions and can cook the facts without thinking we've done so.

As he said in the God Delusion, it looks good on their CV but not so good on his.:D

"I debated Dawkins and I'm pretty sure I won!"

"I debated Wendy Wright and the brain damage may be permanent."

    Yeah, it's pretty amazing.

The evidence she seemed to want for "macro" evolution was a single cell changing into a homo sapien right before her eyes in 10 seconds flat. Clearly how evolution works.

I too doubt your claims of atheism, were you not just yesterday thanking a post by Jakkass who was extolling (in a very lengthy post) the many virtues of Jesus? What reason would you have for doing so if you are a non believer?

storm2811: I forgot to warn you, anyone who agrees with any of my posts will lose respect on A&A. There is a price to pay for agreeing with me. You have to make up your mind, do you wish to retain your A&A virtual 'street cred' or do you wish to agree with me? :pac:

Jakkass, I was just pointing out that while Storm was thanking you on a thread in After Hours, he was on this forum claiming to be an atheist, a little disingenuous no?

I'll agree with you,but I'll agree with some people here on some other things,I'm not sure where I am right now with my faith so I'm a bit half and half.

Oh and diddledum, but I would call myself an atheist right now because I'm more on that side with views and such,I'm a girl btw.

Admittedly, I was having a little fun :) These threads can get a little bit entrenched from time to time, and a little humour helps it along!

Why not start a thread here outlining your confusion? Who knows, you may get some responses that will make things clearer. By all means, ask the same questions over in the christianity forum.

It would be interesting to see what responses you get from both sides.

I've started a thread in the Christianity forum and I'm reading Mere Christianity at the moment too.

I'm not sure about starting a thread here though,I'm pretty sure what I want to do,though I still have views that most Christians would disagree with.
Anyway,we've gone seriously off topic here.:pac:

Your thread in the christianity forum seems to be just about advice on going back to a church, it doesn't address the grey between your faith and atheism.

You're reading Mere Christianity, a book which favours the direction I assume you're leaning to. I noticed from another post of yours that you hadn't read any of Hitchens'/Harris' books, I don't think you've read any of Dawkins' either.

I'm not trying to get on your back or anything, it just seems like you're looking for ''evidence'' to support the decision you've already made. It wouldn't hurt to read both sides of the story before making a decision.

Wouldn't you be as suspicious if storm2814 were just reading Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, Dennett et al?

Or is it only when people are reading Christian Apologetics?

You've been thanked enough times to know this is not true.

Hell, I see that as recently as three days ago, you got one post thanked by no fewer than seven A+A regulars, including both forum moderators.

Playing the "religious persecution" card only works when there actually is persecution. Playing it when there isn't just makes you look silly. :)

I've never read any of Hitchens'/Harris' books, never heard much about them either, but if they're on the same view as Dawkins then I don't really want to either tbh.

No it's alright,I have been/was an atheist for a very long time and talked to many atheists,my whole immediate family are atheist apart from me and I've heard a lot of their views on it already, anyway if you want ask more you should probably send me a PM or something because I don't want to annoy the mods by going off topic so much!:p

Absolutely not, in fact I'd encourage anyone who's a little confused to read books from both sides, and this thread would confirm. (I'm not confused by the by, just curious)

I even have my own copies of the Bible and Qur'an, although I have the KJV of the bible, so it's a bit of a yawn fest. :D

I presume you don't appose my suggestion to Storm?

I was always an atheist too, that doesn't mean I knew anything about it. I learned a lot more from Dawkin's/Hitchens/Harris that just cemented my views.

I'm sorry to say but you're being very closed minded regarding Dawkins, it's unfortunate, especially when you just ignore other people's work because of it.

I'm not being closed minded on him imo,I've seen a good few interviews with him and documentaries and I just do not like his views, even when I was a "proper" atheist I didn't agree with him.
It's just the way he talks about religion and to religious people.

Well a lot of his views are pretty much synonymous with atheism in general, what do you not agree with?

It's funny that you say that...he's actually quite moderate and respectful in the way he speaks to religious people. I can't understand how he does it, to be frank. He's much more restrained that I'd be able to be with the people he discusses things with.

One of his points is that the entire world panders to religion and to religious people for fear of offending, and he doesn't really buy into it. Despite this he still remains largely civil and polite while making his points.

Maybe I've just happened to see the polite side of him *shrug*

I don't know,I know other atheists who don't like him either,it's the way he speaks of religion,as if it's a disease,in fact I think I remember him calling it a virus.
Just the way he goes on about it and people who believe in god/gods,like they're brainwashed and so on,always saying how religion is so bad and evil etc.

Do you feel the same about the way a lot of religious people talk about atheists? That they're lost, that they need to be pitied and prayed for, that they're incapable of being good people without god?

Yes,my religion teacher can be a dick like that,it's just people who are,not intolerant really but just seem to nit pick at other religions or those with lack of religion that gets to me.
It's like,I see his point,I've heard his views a million times over, why can't he just quit?

Forgive me, but only recently you said that Dawkins' thinks teaching religion to children is child abuse, which is not the case. So can you provide some direct quotes please? I'm not denying that Dawkins has said any of these things, but context is important.

Or can you even link to an interview you saw with him that you didn't agree with? Or any clip of him talking to religious people in a way you disagreed with? Or where he was flat out wrong?

I was like that until one thing he said just shattered the glass. Someone said that we must respect other peoples' beliefs and he just said "Why?".
