The universe is incredibly big, and it is expanding. Not only is it expanding, but the rate at which it is expanding is increasing. Aliens not existing is extremely unlikely.

Anyway,I've never really been a fan of Dawkins' views so I'm not liking this documentary so far,arguments from both sides are equally as bad.
While I'd agree with Dawkins more than the born again Christians I still think he's acting as bad them.

Yes he said it's very probably that there are aliens. Aliens are not supernatural.

As a christian, it's rather naive of you to believe in God, but think believing in aliens is ''foolish''. You seriously believe that this universe was ''made'' just for us? That there are billions upon billions of lifeless planets out there?

It's perfectly logical to think that we are not alone.

We exist. Why is it so foolish to believe that what happened here could have happened on one of the trillions of other planets in the universe?

Believing that it's possible that aliens exist doesn't mean believing that they've visited earth and landed in Roswell etc if that's what you mean

I am not a Christian. So no,I do not believe in those things,it seems in a load of threads I post in here and I say I don't like Dawkins people just assume I am not an atheist..

I don't see how you can call yourself an atheist in fairness.

People (Well, I) assume you're not an atheist because from what I see, most of your posts (recently anyway) have been nothing but religious apologetics. Even trying to point out that Dawkins is somehow being hypocritical by saying there's a good probability that aliens exist, when he's making a perfectly good speculation!

Yes I am thinking about it right now but I do still believe in evolution so I'm not entirely sure.

I don't see hatred from him for anything. I see frustration and a lot of concern for the future of, well, the whole world.

I'm sorry, I don't understand who you're trying to fool. If you're thinking of rejoining a christian church, then you're not an atheist. An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in a deity, that's not you, clearly! Maybe a deist, possibly a pantheist, maybe even a full blown theist, but not an atheist.

As for making you feel unwelcome? I'm not here to offer a cuddle, if you don't want your views challenged then you know what to do.

I'm not trying to fool anyone,everyone has to choose their faith sometime in life and my time is now,I'm not sure what I want to do,as I stated in that thread.

It is fairly clear that he does,he may not say it but simply the way he talks about it,it's ruining the world,ruining mankind and so on.

I have a feeling that you think if someone is an atheist that must agree with him,I know many who do not.

Only a handfull of years ago the commander and chief of the most powerful nation in the world was a Christian that believed the earth was 6000 years old and rapture was just around the corner. One of the strictest Muslim nations in the world has designs on obtaining a nuclear arsenal and is run by a man that believes anyone not of his religion is fair game for forced conversion or death. Thier most hated enemies and a presently nuclearly armed nation is in a situation where the formation of a government always relies on currying the favour of some of the most extreme religious lunatics in the world.

There is a lot to be worried about.

But attempts to teach creationism alongside or instead of science has been going on for ages.
I see what he's getting at but I think atheism will eventually have more members than any church.

I genuinely can't understand how people like the ones on this show exist with the views they have. I'm not sure I'd be able to stay as restrained as Dawkins is if I came across them.

He doesn't say teaching religion is child abuse. He says that labeling a child a christian, or a muslim, or a jew is child abuse as they are too young to understand these terms. And I most definitely agree with this. Do you? You wouldn't call a child a marxist just because the parents are would you?
