If you can get away with it, go for it. For me...stairs would hurt.

I'm a D cup,so it's not really an option for me to go bra-less.They'd be flopping out everywhere:o:p

Having said that,I do get jealous of my smaller busted friends who can go without a bra in nice dresses etc, whereas I'd always need some support.

Even around the house I'm just not comfy without a bra,
Also, any lady with a sizeable bust will know the intense discomfort of running down the stairs bra-less. ouch:o

i'm an e cup and i love taking my bra off when i sit down at night i usualy wear a tankini top or a vest top with some support to bed

I wear no bra to bed, in the recent warm weather I found it most comfy to sleep in just my knickers! Nothing like going to bed after a shower with lovely crisp sheets. One of the ultimate joys :)

Would sleeping in an underwired bra not bend it?

I've Bs that are on the smaller side of the scale (I'd pass the pencil test just fine! :p), and I'd never go without a bra. They're not going to sag any time soon or lose their shape either way, really, but.. I'd just prefer to wear one. It's more comfortable, I want them to stay just how they are for as long as possible, looks nice under clothes too.

But to each their own, really, if you feel more comfortable without one then go for it! You might as well if you have the ability to, you're lucky!

Depending on the bra, I'm a 32D or 32DD. I can pass the pencil test too because the girls know how to stay in place. But I usually wear a bra. It feels more comfortable, especially when you're moving around. And the right bra can do wonders for your figure.

I don't think there's anything wrong with going braless, but I would want to have some support to keep the girls knowing how to stay in place!

Failure of the pencil test is bound to be the case for anyone with big boobs, no matter what age. I'd be much more concerned if my arse failed the pencil test... :pac:

I always wear a bra. Take it off to sleep, and will put it back on when getting dressed. If I think I'm going to see anyone in my apartment in the morning (housemates!) I'll either put on a hoody or a bra just in case I get cold!!! Nothing more mortifying than being able to hang 2 coats on your front...

that's true, also the nipples can give away their position & droop, it's ok if their pert.
I remember one time years ago I was signing into work, I leaned over the security hatch to sign the time sheet & the security guard looked down my top and said I see your me letting them hang out, the perv, I was glad when he was fired he was always making smutty comments about them after that

    OP here.

Yes I have ditched the bra and gone for broke. Just back from hols and went half comando several night with pretty tops or dresses. It was great, didn't have to worry about matching or changing straps. Went the whole hog and went topless while sunbathing. Wish I did it years ago! Now I'm 90% brown with no dodge tan lines.

    PP.

Actually it seems is quite the opposite.
Why? Loads of people seem to have the idea that wearing a bra is bad for your breasts and I'd love to know what the basis for this argument is?

I posted this in AH, seems nobody here has heard of this and I thought women would have heard about it for sure.
    No bra for 1 year
In 2003, a young sportswoman, Dr. Laetitia Pierrot, became interested in the question of knowing if there was any real interest in whether a woman should wear a bra or not for sports (1). For this purpose, she carried out a study of 33 volunteers who regularly participated in sport and who she asked to go without a bra for a whole year. The subjects were between 18 and 25 years, in good health, did not smoke and practised a sports activity for at least four hours per week. She separated those doing 'vertical' sports, for example gymnastics or foot racing, from 'horizontal' sports such as swimming. It is important to realise that these women stopped wearing a bra completely, not only for sport, but also in everyday life. The protocol included both biometric assessment and questionnaires at four time intervals during the study

    Better formed breasts
At the time of the first evaluation which took place at 6 weeks from the start of the study, a majority of the women reported some discomfort; it is not easy to give up a practice that has been very much a part of ones everyday life. This discomfort had improved by six months, and had gone by the end of the study, with 88% of the women reporting that they felt more comfortable and had more freedom of movement. As for the biometric assessments, there was an improvement in the quality of the tissues and better muscular development in the rotator muscles of the shoulders and the pectoralis major. An added benefit was a major reduction in the stretch marks during the first six weeks. This was explained by the absence of compression by the bra of the skin and vascular pedicles and better venous and lymphatic drainage. Other measurements confirmed the advantages of not wearing a bra. After one year, for example, it was noted that there was a clear reduction in the distance from the nipple to the shoulder bones (acromion), lifting the breast. The other measurements were similarly improved, an increase in the distance from the nipple to the bottom of the breast, and the horizontal nipple angle. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between the two sporting activities (vertical and horizontal).

    Conclusions
From all these biometric measurements, one can conclude that, contrary to popular opinion, the breasts do not sag if not supported. After an initial period of adaptation, the women who took part in this study did not have any complaints of discomfort while participating in sports and even gained a more positive aesthetic shape to their breasts. Something to think about.
Institute of Human Living Sciences, Otsuma Women's University, Tokyo, Japan.

Eleven adult female subjects aged 22-39 years wore a certain brassière for 3 months while anthropometry and moiré fringe photographs on the anterior trunk were taken regularly once a week. After the 3 months, the brassière was not worn for another 3 months. Then the measurements and photogrammetry were repeated for comparison using superimposed moiré configurations. The results are summarized as follows. Regardless of slim or obese trunk, subjects with pendent breasts showed the highest degree of breast form "correction" from wearing the brassière. In all subjects, after 3 months of brassière constraint, the underbust circumference was smaller but the chest circumference became enlarged, the distance between the right and left nipples became wider, and the breasts tended to hang down. This change was more marked in obese subjects with pendent breasts. And when this type of subject wore a "well-fitted" brassière for a long time, her breast form became developed; that is, her breasts hung down more.

    Bras and breast cancer risk

Bra-wearing has been linked to breast cancer in a study done by Sidney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer. They found, for example, that women who wore a bra 24 hours a day had a 113-fold increase in breast cancer incidence compared to women who wore bra less than 12 hours daily! They suggest that bras exert enough pressure to the breast and surrounding areas to inhibit the flow of lymph, which then causes toxins and other waste material to remain in the breasts instead of being flushed out.

Now, this effect may be due to the fact that most women just wear the wrong size bra that is too tight somewhere. No one has done any studies investigating the link between breast cancer and how well the woman's bra fits. Either way, for your breast health's sake it is better to avoid wearing bras whenever possible, and for those occasions when you do need one, get well-fitting bras.
I read a few comments saying one day bras could be looked upon like victorian corsets which caused internal damage to organs just for the sake of fashion or what society expects, with people saying WTF were they thinking wearing those bra yokes all the time.

Neither of the tests about breast shape had enough women taking part or lasted long enough to give any sort of conclusion. The fact that the researchers drew conclusions from such inconclusive studies shows a very possible bias from the start.

Would it also perhaps depend on breast size? As in, large more likely to sag?

Won't be ditching mine any time soon anyway - for comfort reasons mostly, and also because I think a well-fitting bra makes cleavage look great. :)

Not just cleavage, but you look waaay better in profile with a decent bra than without.

I run, and going bra-less would be disastrous!

It seems to come down to what you're comfortable with. I've never been larger than an A-cup and I can take or leave bras. I wear them for definition and to enhance my figure but can happily go without and not frighten the horses.

I can't imagine having breasts big enough to hit me in the eye as I run upstairs.

So I guess the answer is, if you have to ask, "Do I need a bra?", you don't...

I'm an A cup :( so I go braless at home all the time, but at work/on a night out I have to wear a bra just to give me some shape! (Plus, even with my teeny boobs, it'd hurt to go jogging or running so I'd have to wear a bra then!

wear the right bra, not too covered up but just enough and your set :)

It really depends. I would never go running or exercise without a bra and neither would I go out to work or on a night out without one. Mainly for comfort but also the shape it gives. However, if I get up in the morning or I'm just out of the shower then I'll happily go without a bra until I'm getting ready to go out. Like today, I was just lounging about the house, pottering about doing bits and pieces and then went to the local shop for some groceries so no bra-age required.

I don't really pay much heed to the 'wearing a bra will stop your boobs drooping' thing. If they're going to droop, they'll droop. All the bra wearing in the world is not gonna stop em to any considerable extent.

I'm 30E...with a bra on I tend to look really slutty no matter how hard I try...and without doesn't really work either because its always cold :S I wish I had smaller boobs. Whenever I try to wear like work clothes ie shirts I have the whole porn librarian thing going on because of the buttons!

My bra pretty much is my boobs :(

I only go braless if I am lounging at home or wearing something backless, otherwise the bra stays on.

Wear a cami underneath and leave chest buttons undone... that's what most of us girls do in work :)

How many people have to be in a study before you would pay it any attention? I read many medical studies and many would have less people than that involved, and be over a shorter time too. Of course they were not long enough to see what happens in many years but I still think it is very interesting, how long would the study have to last before you think it is worthwhile reading?

It is a totally different way of thinking about it, most are blindly accepting that a bra will prevent sagging. If you go to the cycling forum you will find many people do not wear cycling helmets as they believe it is SAFER not to, including myself (while commuting). Many studies would show this is the case, some studies might go the other way.

I am very cynical and like to read studies to see flaws and ulterior motives, I have to twist facts myself in work for marketing. In this case I would wonder why the researchers would be biased? e.g. if this was a study done and showed they DID cause sagging then I would be asking if some bra company had funded it, and have a vested interest in it. Just like cycling helmet companies would want to skew figures to infer helmets are safe. But I ask myself who benefits from recommending against using a bra or cycling helmet.

On the cycling forum the "anti-helmet" posters are almost always calm and collected and make reasoned posts, while the "pro helmet guys" are usually saying "YOU F*CKING IDIOT, OF COURSE IT IS SAFER", without any reading up. I wonder if the studies here did show sagging occurred would you have been so dismissive of them.

When I was overweight I had bigger moobs than many women I know who do wear bras. I never felt any discomfort running and so thought that study was interesting, how after 6 months of going braless the pain was reportedly gone in those women.

rubadub, this is OT I know, but why would it be safer to not wear a helmet when cycling? Thread link if possible, I'm really interested!

And a pro site if you still want to get one after reading that!
    http://www.helmets.org/

Here is another interesting one Unintended consequences
In 1990, the Australian state of Victoria made safety helmets mandatory for all bicycle riders. While there was a reduction in the number of head injuries, there was also an unintended reduction in the number of juvenile cyclists – fewer cyclists obviously leads to fewer injuries, all else being equal. Research by Vulcan et al. found that the reduction in juvenile cyclists was because the youths considered wearing a bicycle helmet unfashionable.[23] A health benefit model developed at Macquarie University in Sydney suggests that, while helmet use reduces "the risk of head or brain injury by approximately two-thirds or more", the decrease in exercise caused by reduced cycling as a result of helmets laws is counterproductive in terms of net health.[
Father Mathew's temperance campaign in 19th-century Ireland – in which thousands of people vowed never to drink alcohol again – led to the consumption of ether, a much more dangerous intoxicant, by those unwilling to break their pledge.

I like to fundamentally question things, and think what it would be like without things, e.g. if bras were only invented today what reception would they get. People here are saying they give you a better shape, but it is a totally unnatural shape, I expect in Victorian times corset wearers were saying I like the look of my 19" waist so I wear one. And wonderbras are even more odd, completely unnatural to have breasts squished together. I have heard it is seemingly attractive since it mimics the look of the buttocks, and that red lipstick is said to mimic a vulva

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipstick
    Anthropology

According to some anthropologists, the lips are similar in appearance to the labia because they flush red and swell when they're aroused, a possible conscious or subconscious reason that women in many cultures make their lips even redder with lipstick

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleavage_(breasts)
British zoologist and ethologist Desmond Morris theorizes that cleavage is a sexual signal that imitates the image of the cleft between the buttocks,[15] which according to Morris in The Naked Ape is also unique to humans, other primates as a rule having much flatter buttocks.

Evolutionary psychologists theorize that humans' permanently enlarged breasts, in contrast to other primates' breasts, which only enlarge during ovulation, allowed females to "solicit male attention and investment even when they are not really fertile",[16] though Morris notes that in recent years there has been a trend toward reversing breast augmentations

Since I got properly fitted I find bra's much more comfortable and wouldn't go anywhere without one on. The few times I've gone braless I found it really irritated my nipples as they kept rubbing against my clothes.
My boobs are really far apart from each other so I have to wear a bra to keep them together, othewise they'd be flying in all different directions :)
