But thats the fun, people who post here have to know that the rest of us are free to comment, it's a forum after all, no sacred cows here, right Retro? With your SoR and Gunstar fetish? Nothing like some good natured slagging about how terrible they are and how great Goldeneye and Halo are, no? ;)

(unless its Killzone 2, which was fun,)

I did try Killzone out again recently and realised just how poor it was, and how desperate Sony were to compete with the Xbox in the FPS genre, something they singularly failed to do.

    Seriously?
    Resident Evil 1 to 3?
First, that's three games, second, there's no way they are "best games ever", especially since the first one was redone so much better on the Gamecube.
As for Resident Evil 2 and 3, the second one was ok, but the third? And none of them can really hold a candle to Resident Evil 4.

Yes I know its three games but if you play them back to back its just like one big epic game

Cant really put RE 4 or the camecube remake on the list if I havent played them yet, but they are on my "to play list"

As for Nam 1975 and Operation Wolf, ??????
I mean, I have Nam 1975 on the Neogeo and its nothing more than ok, far better games than that on the format, far better shooter games with a war theme.

And regarding Operation Wolf, erm, well none of that series were much cop but at least Operation Thunderbolt was better looking and had two players.

I have a great fondness for Nam 1975 and Operation Wolf as they were two games that i could finish on 1 credit

I'll throw in my top 10 with the usual "in no particular order."
These are the games that I have played/ enjoyed the most over the years.

    Goldeneye (N64)
Legend of Zelda: Oracina of Time (N64)
    Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
    Pokemon Red (Gameboy)
    Resident Evil 4 (PS2)
    Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
    Super Mario 64 (N64)
    Tomb Raider (PS1)
    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (PS2)

The final spot is fought over between Final Fantasy VI & VII.
Whoever wins can have the last spot...

although I do see Terra smacking Cloud in the face and telling him to cop-on...

I loved the game, found so much fun in setting up hour long matches in Beach head. I though the SP in Killzone 2 was annoying, mainly cause you couldn't drop that god damn pistol.

    Streets of rage 2 MD)

    Sonic 3 (MD)

Super mario kart (Snes) Original and best kart game

Tomb raider (saturn and PS1) Better than any other tomb raider game despite dated graphics

    Yes =) you right.
For Hexen i am use skulltag to play public multiplayer trough internet.

Have you used Doomsday and all the highres texture packs? I have all of them installed including the mp3 soundtrack. Everything looks great although the multiplayer is a bit dodgy.

Yes i have it (hires too), but for doomsday i am need hamachi and someone who play with me, sometimes i play hexen2 through hamachi, because h2 doesn't have master server or public (or known ) servers.
For all other heretic and hexen games its easy to play online.
I am don't have LAN. So hamachi create Virtual LAN through internet.

I have had a load of problems getting doomsday over LAN or even Internet. I will give that skultag a go tonight. Whats it like to use, if say myself and my 2 brothers want to co-op Hexen?

I am often play this, so you can create (or someone else) hexen server, all other can join (give server name to them).
Or simply start doomseeker (from skulltag folder) and find server named
"TSR-Games Hexen Cooperative server" you can find other deathmatch server named similar to this one.

Do you ever find sometimes NeverWinter Nights can be both the best game ever and the worst all at the same time? Sometimes I love it and them other times I feel like punching the screen.
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I love it so much, I can't ever seem to put it away for more than 2 weeks, but it makes me SO mad too! Argh! Especially some of the class feats being buggy, the poor aliasing, the way transitions sometimes never work unless you click that one tiny little spot.. But even with those complaints, I can't seem to give up the game.

    In no particular order.

    Pokemon Red/Blue
    UFO: Enemy Unknown

    Super Mario Kart
    Super Mario Bros 3
    The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
    Final Fantasy IX
    Lylat Wars

There are lots more that'd be close to being in my top ten, but I'd end up listing a top hundred.

I did a top 100 ages ago. My list is subject to change but off the top of my head:

    1. Panzer Dragoon Saga
    2. Super Metroid
    3. Suikoden 2
    4. Super Mario World
    5. System Shock 2
    6. Zelda: Link to the PAst
    7. Gunstar Heroes
    8. Radiant Silvergun
    9. Bubble Bobble
    10. Resident Evil 4

As for your list, I've plenty of problems with it:

Goldeneye has aged dreadfully. It was a very influential game but it's terrible now.
Resident Evil 1, I prefer the Gamecube remake and while I love the game, it's not top 10 material for me.
Tomb Raider 2 is a terrible games. TR1 is still the only good game in the old franchise and I feel Tomb Raider Anniversary improved on that greatly.
Mario Kart 64 I feel is by far the worst in the series. I'd take Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii and Double Dash over it anyday.
Fifa 95, meh football games and ISS Deluxe and sensi were always way better
Gears of War 2. Decent game but getting no where near my top 100.

u need to stop talking through your rear end, friend. wtf is your list, i believe marcusphoenix asked for the ten BEST games ever, not the ten WORST! you're clearly a n00b, bubble bobble was flawed, i recall the infamous "purple bubble" in level 10 being one of the biggest glitches in gaming history. as for panzer dragoon saga, i wasted 20 quid on that pile of stinking dog ****, no wonder it's "rare" as you so put it, because, quite simply its a load of cock. radiant silvergun is a bit of a strange one indeed, seeing as its probably good if you're a five year old girl.

Retro - this game is 13 years old. It looks like crap today, but it didnt 13 years ago. Back then it sold over 8 million copies, and probably contributed to what came next in terms of FPS games. Of course nowadays it plays like crap, but is that the fault of a 13 year old game running on an even older system? Or maybe because we have games today which were unimaginable back then?

Yeah Doom 2 looks crap today also, but when you say your running it @ 60fps, are you running it on a modern pc? Or a 16 year old pc which was around when Doom 2 was released? 2mb ram, 16mhz processor, 30MB hdd? I think you will find there is a difference. Run Goldeneye via an emulator with all the super duper direct x plugins that are available today and tell me it doesnt look better than it would running on an N64...

By your own admission, it was the first mutiplayer fps on a console. That is what you should be remembering it for, not that its experience was lacking compared to Duke/Quake on a pc. I dont know about anyone else here, but when the N64 was around and Goldeneye in its prime, I could only dream of owning a pc...but I could never afford one back then. So Goldeneye stepped up to the masses, and provided vintage 2 player fun for hour upon hour.

I wont remember Goldeneye for its graphics, its music, its storyline etc...but I will remember it for doing what a videogame is supposed to do...it entertained, it was fun, and it was a classic. It looks crap today, probably plays crap - but it didnt 13 years ago...thats how it should be judged. Retro gaming isnt always about how you feel playing those games today, for me a lot of it is about how it made you feel when you played those games years & years ago.

great comment, easily the best on this thread. retrogamer doesn't have a clue.
