You are right, certainly taken as an average the chips are miles better in England.

Bad Irish chip makers should be shot/tickled or something for treason.
on my irish travels i did find one brilliant irish chip shop, that was in the village of avoca, on the bridge, but the only thing that let it down ,was the lack of malted vinegar[i always bring a bottle over for one of my irish mates] how sad is that ?

That is definitely changing. McCourt and McGinn show that there is a strong support now from nationalist communities for Northern Ireland. The FAI would have taken them in a flash but they decided to go with the IFA. I think the support of the Northern Ireland fans will prove that there is no bitterness amongst the vast majority of the support.
It's changing ever so slightly, but only as a result of more and more kids from nationalist backgrounds being integrated at a younger age - there is less internal politics. The inclusion of McCourt and McGinn doesn't mean that there is a strong support from nationalist communities. Most(probably all, actually) people I know from Derry wish the players well, but they support the Republic.

Also, neither McGinn nor McCourt were deemed good enough by the FAI and as such weren't approached, so to say they chose the IFA over the FAI is false. In time, perhaps there will be less bitterness, but believe me, there still is a mental block for most nationalists when it comes to supporting N.I. and it will still take years to dissipate. Who knows, maybe some day there will be an all-island soccer team as there is with Rugby?

Its becoming a love in around here.

Glad that some posters have taken my advice from an earlier post to love the English (British).

They are really lovely and cuddly if you are nice to them and at the very least it confuses them.

Ireland should have a national day for loving the English (British). It would benefit them so much and they may be able to nurture loving relationships with other peoples from around the world.

I think the French-Canadians may take a rain-check on that idea, along with the French-French.

Ah but, here in Ireland you get cheesey chips. You get none of that in England. And I wouldn`t have minded, but cheese and chips together sound so wrong, but they`re just so lovely!:D

Nah. You can get greasy chips over there, the difference is that they're crunchy and not green/black. Also, a small battered sausage is like 3 times the size of a regular one here.

We do love other nationalities, especially our cute and ever amusing neighbours in our pseudo colony off the coast of Wales;-))

Yeah, but go to London, and it`ll cost about ten times as much.

    He he

Says the man who has posted a whole load of bitter, twisted and jealous bollox.

People like you just add to the enjoyment of the 100% run England have had in the qualifiers. That must really make that chip feel like an entire sack of spuds at the moment!

Firstly, bitter and twisted... maybe.... but jealous of the English??? LOL hardly.

100% run in the qualifiers.... yea the mighty Andorra really are class A opposition. BBC built up the Andorra game as if England were playing a world cup final against Brazil. Laughable as usual. After the game the panelists even said the performance showed that England could win the World Cup!! lol lol Andorra ffs!

BTW I'm delighted they had a 100% run against vaslty inferior opposition in one of the easiest groups, it makes people like you build them up unrealistically. Im looking forward to the fall. And believe me, it will come.

Back to the topic in hand. Is there still anti-english feeling in Ireland ??? Evidently yes! Is there anti-English feeling in France??? Certainly. Spain?? Without a doubt. Italy?? no answer needed. Its everywhere!

Some of the anti-english feeling in Ireland is no doubt petty. But taking into consideration the sheer number of people that dislike the nation ( the modern English nation) perhaps the English should take a look at themselves. Afterall there is no smoke without fire.

Not really. In fact with the exchange rates, they're probably a bit cheaper.

Have you got any stats to prove how long a piece of string is???

All you need to do is TRAVEL. Its not difficult.

    Hmmm
Martin O'Neill (former Celtic manager), Pat Jennings, Gerry Armstrong, Gerry Taggart, Mal Donaghy and a good few more might disagree with you.

You do know that all those guys are considered heroes by NI supporters? Despite being Catholic.

I wonder how many of these players would have played for NI had the structures been in place to allow them to play for Ireland.

From my experience Martin O'neill is not very popular at all with the blue half of Northern Ireland ( Which happen to make up the bulk of NI supporters). I saw a mural (albeit pretty bad) on the Ballysillan road depicting Martin O neill as a priest surrounded by monkeys dressed in celtic shirts, with the title "FENIAN CNUT". What lovely people they are!

It was the 6 counties that were broken away from Ireland I believe.

I was expecting some figures to back up your extensive research, but you obviously haven't got any. All you've given me is a bit of a childish response.:p
