While we are all fully aware of what England did to this country over the 800 years or so,

So what did ENGLAND do to this country for 800 years

I have lived here & in England on & off all my life, and I still haven't found out what England did to this country that has made "some people" so full of bile towards England & the English people!

Personally speaking I love England & the English people, (Yobbos/ Football hooligans & Tattoo sporting low lifes aside) :)

As a people we 'Irish' are very integrated with England/ Scotland/ Wales (on a cultural, genetic, and economic level), and they with us > always have been & always will be!

I dont like or dislike the English anymore than other nations. However I do hate the fact that some Irish people will "hate the English" on a Friday night and then celebrate United or Liverpool winning on the Saturday afternoon, but thats a different topic altogether.

To be honest, I wouldn't have stood up, but not because of a grudge against the English. IT'd have been more 'I don't want to support the monarchy\something I don't believe in'. Like if you're at a mass of remembrance and you don't go to get the wafer because it seems hypocritical to do it if you don't believe in God.

I agree wouldn't stand up to toast Brian Cohen so why stand up for royal who sits on her lollie and millions spent on them every year even when they were in recession. Why should i stand up and toast someone English (Royal or political)when i am not.

I hate the English of the past the ones who lived in our country and supported and stood back and watched what happened here and the ones who hate us.
The English in England when i was there treated me like royalty.
I have no blood ties with England at all not even one in my history.

Thats a bold statement to make (if youre Irish), considering family trees that go back centuries . . . .

    Just look at Ryan Tubridy!

generally i have no problem with them. However it would be the ruling class i'd have problems with. What happened with the Guilford 4 and Birmingham 6, was not that long ago.
That being said i have a problm with the ruling class of this country too!!:(

For someone who professes they have no problem with the English, you're very quick to point out that you have no ties with them what so ever.

Apparently 25% of all English people have some Irish blood in them.

always considered the whole "800 year of oppression" as more of a class thing. the "British" establishment treated the peasants in england, scotland and wales every bit as badly as their Irish equivalents. It wasn't anti irish it was anti everybody who wasn't born into a particular strata of society.

So he can trace back and find he is related but i cant trace back and find i haven't;) Not bold statement at all.
Have you got blood relations from English side. Not that it matters so long as you hold allegiance to home.

My family has more in common with a working class English family than with Seanie Fitzpatrick`s or feckin Bono`s.

But I really hate the Royal Family. Not because they`re English, because they`re a bunch of inbred toff wankbags.I think it`s shameful that such an outdated classist "institution" has been allowed to live into the 21st century.

It`s even more shameful that people here applaud them, even if it is as a kneejerk reaction to Republicanism.I`m definitely not a Nationalist by any stretch but I`d never lower myself to cheering on those ****.Not even to piss off the biggest "fuk da brits" head.

One of your ancestors could have been got at by Lord Renta-Knob. That could have been why you were treated like royalty when you were in England.

A lot of English people couldn't give a sh1t about the royal family, either. I don't remember seeing anyone hang around when they played the national anthem in cinemas, there was always a cloud of dust as people ran out the door.

When the Norse came in and raped your Irish women and stole your stuff in the 10th century were you hating on the Swedes? Dublin, Waterford, Limerick are Norse towns afterall. 1000 years of Swedish occupation of Ireland imo. Swedes out.

Yes indeed, (and it would be strange if they didnt) consodering our proximity, but its a two way street you know, and I would imagine that at least 25% of Irish people have English, Welsh & Scottish blood running through their veins too!

Not that many Irish people would like to admit it :)

Yes, there was no butchering of Scottish, English and Welsh Catholics by the English establishment, and there was never any poverty there either.

Im an equal opportuities racist,I hate everyone.;)

On a more serious note,I dont hate the English people. The vast majority of English people Ive met have been really nice and decent people.I,like Im sure many people posting here have aunts, uncles and cousins that are English born and bred,I support an English football team and watch English TV shows so to jabber on that "I hate the English except for <insert exceptions here> " would be retarded in the extreme.

Like every country in the world, you are going to get assholes,c'est la vie.

I will never forget the history of this country and if I ever have kids I will tell them about it too but the flag waving, brits out mentality that some people have is pretty fcuking sad in this day and age.

I hate their government and what they have done and continue to do. Same as i do with a lot of foreign policies of governments around the world. I'll judge the individual english person on a case by case basis. Same as i do with anyone. Most of the english i've met though have been yuppie gap year students which i hate regardless of nationality. Anyways i still love to watch engerland lose.
