You wont mind if me and 27 of my mates take over your house next week for a few days so. excellent.

sure its not as if we would be breaking the law and its not as if you can call the guards as you dont want to be accused of assisting the flute holding! :P

I seriously doubt you have 27 mates, maybe you have plenty of cyber mates who seem to post here also, and your right, I wouldnt call the gardai, I'd drag you out myself.
And dont confuse a sit in protest with breaking and entering, two totally different things.

YES ignoring some higher than high judge is good, it shows that people won't be pushed around so easily by some stupid wig wearing fool who's main goal is to uphold the "rights" of his elite brethren.

    Who appoints the judges then?

The fuccking elite look after their own, we're just the bottom of the pile as far as I and they can see, and sooner or later it will catch up on you too, but you'll probably hold their flutes for them while they pisss all over you.
Yeah! Down with the Lisbon Treaty!

This thread is ridiculous. These people are getting redundancy terms that are either equal to what everyone else here would get or BETTER than what everyone else here would get (obviously private sector workers - not public sector).

So their company did not give them a lot of advance notice, I know many people who are informed of a redundancy by going into work one day and getting a tap on the shoulder then are escorted from the building within about 15 minutes. I do not see that the Thomas Cook people have anything to complain about in comparison to the rest of the private sector.

Ok so these protesters are no better than say a person who kicks in your door in the middle of the night?. Is that what your saying?.

It must have been a long week for you ikky while I was banned, but dont worry I'm back for now, and by the way I didnt re-reg lastweek after I was banned as you seemed to suggest.

Having read through all of this thread I'm still no clearer as to what exactly the workers were protesting about.

Which of the following was it?

    a. The unprofitable Irish operations were being closed down even though Thomas Cook as a whole is profitable

    b. The store was closing immediately rather than in a month as previously planned (it seems they were getting paid for this month regardless)

    c. The CEO of Thomas Cook received a large bonus earlier in the year and some how that should be reflected in their redundancy package (i.e. more than the 5 additional weeks they are already getting)

    d. All of the above

    e. Something else entirely

Seriously, can anybody on the pro worker side just clarify that for me?

WTF?, A woman calls her baby Chelsea and your automatic skanger alert monitor goes crazy, you are seriously deluded, do you know the lady in question?.

Seems to me that the CEO's pay rise ws reflected in the redundancy package, as in the extra few weeks over the 2 statutory weeks.

Some people broke the law and you automatically label them heroes fighting Da Man. Funny thing, life.

Well for your information we are not in the UK, and anyway why call a woman that just had a baby a skanger because of the name she happened to call her child?, sarcasim or not I wonder if 2sheds would actually say it to the father of the child, I doubt it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

Ah im sure he would give it a go. Why not she prob is a skanger.

Well if you were the father he wouldn't. Wouldn't want lump hammer marks on his face would he.

Have Thomas Cook paid the correct amount of redundancy as required by law? If so, why are their former employees complaining?

Yes, and then a lot more. The required amount is 2 weeks pay for every year worked. TC have paid 5 weeks for every year. I think TC are being generous and if I were them, I'd just give workers the min amount and screw them. They are living in la-la land looking for 8 weeks. When I think of all the people who have lost their jobs recently and would be delighted with 5 weeks per year, it makes my blood boil. Greedy bastards!

On that basis, is it fair to say that they haven't a leg to stand on and their grievance has no foundation?

On that basis I'd say any company in the future would just give the minimum required.

Why bother giving 5 weeks redundancy if you can just give 2 weeks redundancy and get the same union reps screaming murder and the same bad publicity?

Then the problem is with the law. Is meeting the legal requirements a bad thing for a company? I doubt PR is foremost in anybody's mind at present.

Can someone add a poll here to see exactly how much support the "workers" have. Im guessing by reading this thread that its a minority.

Don't assume this website or this forum or this thread represents everyone in Ireland . History repeats itself.

Would illegally occupying the premises and starting an illegal protest outside constitute "gross misconduct"? If it does, they might get away with not needing to pay any redundancy at all...

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

An "illegal" protest ? What would that be ? An illegal protest as opposed to a legal sanctioned protest ? Kinda defeats the purpose of a protest if you've to seek permission from the state.

Why are you so angry about some workers trying to get some more money from their employers? It's not like it's your money they're trying to get.

Also, why would they give a fig what other workers think about them? They're just trying to negotiate the best possible deal for themselves.

You would do the same, and if you wouldn't, you deserve to get only the worst possible option available to you for not being man enough to stand up for yourself and try to get a better deal.
