Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You know something MGH, i never actually wanted to find out my merit number, just incase it was too high and it put me right off...it seemed to have worked anyway!

Im sure that bottle of wine will be in celebration MGH...to a low merit number, then you'll probably be more at ease!

Yeah i totally agree with you on doing it over and over again, i think all in all took 15 months or thereabouts for me, so i would NOT have liked to do that over again lol!:p

I want to know and I dont want to know all at the same time!! LOL
Kind of know what I need to be in the region of to be in with a shout and I know if I'm outside it then its back to the drawing board but I'll get closure of some sort I think!:p

Well whatever closure you get, don't forget people drop out in due time and change to other jobs, so that call you thought you might not get, could just be around the corner!!...either way crack open a bottle of wine, because i know it'll be for celebration lol!;)

You're welcome MGH, as long as it makes you realise that you're still in with a shout, then my job is done!...
The nerves do get to you though when you come on here and see people have had the call and your phones goes off, you keep an eye on your phone, quite literrally all the time lol....so the less you worry about it, the less time it seems to be til you get the call, then you can jump up and go crazy when you get the good news, which im hoping you do!!:D

Those starting in Ganerville in October or November, what sort of Merit score do you guys have? I'm trying to figure out if they start the highest scorers at the start, then work their way through the list and if that is the case, what score I need to be in with a chance of getting in!

Hi Kelso, I'm not actually sure what merit score I had, I never phoned up just incase it was too high and it put me off getting in. I remember reading hat a few people got in earlier this year with higher merit scores at the start. I reckon it might have been to do with background also, and when the vetting forms had been finished.

Thanks! That's good news for me then. I've passed vetting already! (took only upto 2 months!). My Merit score isn't fantastic, but I believe easily good enough to get me in. Hopefully since I've passed vetting I wont be waiting too long. :D

Hopefully not then Kelso. You could be accepted before you know it lol! Do you know roughly when the calls wll start going out for C14?:D

No idea! I hear Oct and Nov are both full, so I wonder if Jan will still be C13, a mix of C13/C14 or all C14!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 254 ✭✭inspector71

did somebody not say a while back that they phoned recruitment and asked them about when the C14 intakes would start, and they said, 'probably be the end of the year?'

Almost sure i read that on here somewhere!
It would mean the phone calls going out at the end of the year probably, not the actual intakes starting.

won't matter to me - damn vetting's gonna take a millenium!

hey guys just a quick question. during the first four weeks are you allowed to leave garnerville at the weekend? or is it only after the four weeks initial training that you are allowed to leave?

You're allowed to leave on the friday evening/night and return very early on the monday morning (but most people go back on the sunday night).
You're allowed to stay all weekend if you like though! (I think)

Then after 4 weeks you can go home every night, unless you live miles away and then they let you stay there

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    Hi,

During the first 4 weeks, as said, you can take off on a friday night and you don't hav to be back till monday morning. But also during the week, you can go home in the evenings if you want as long as you're back for bedtime. Saying that tho - they have a lot of activities in the evenings during that 4 weeks (hence why they get everyone living in) so I wouldn't make any plans till I'd see the timetable.

    Lis

I honestly don't know how you can learn number 3 word perfect, it's near impossible not to make a mistake lol!

Have you guys read the booklet in the cd yet?

printed off all 111 pages and the work book, been flat out filling it in.

I got definitions 1 and 2 perfect, number 3 is tough though. just learning it in sections. the rest after that look not too bad. The tests are written though and some words are included to prompt it I think, so wont be as hard as remembering them on the spot in front of someone.. i hope :P

Aww man i can't wait :) 6 weeks and a few days to go :)

I was thinking of wearing a suit to the GRN but i take it from that post Rob nobody else did? Or is that something else you're talking about?

Alot of people didnt wear one, and it wasnt looked upon kindly. They made a few examples of people who were dressed too casually, so make an effort to get a good suit on, and more importantly for the first day. We were told that if you arrive without one you will be sent to tesco to buy the cheapest suit they have before being allowed in..

anyone struggling with definition 3? it just has so many parts

3 is the only bad one and 1 is kinda tricky

will they really give you hell if you don't know all 10 on the sunday?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

I know 1 and 3 perfectly.. it took about 4 hours in total to learn 3 but it was worth it. The rest are easy enough I think.

i dont know how they will test us on the first day i wouldnt be surprised if there was a random test in class or people get asked at random to say some of them to them.. I can see them asking some poor soul the courtesy one, since that sums up what you are expected to be at all times

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 102 ✭✭MAKEPEACE

I don't think the smaller ones are that easy as there is a potential for slip ups. I keep saying stupid things like 'that' instead of 'which'. It's pretty frustrating.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

I know what you mean, it can be hard to remember the first word or two of them.

    Hi all

I was wondering if anybody could confirm what i have heard with reference to annual leave following completion of your training. Either sombody told me or i have read it somwhere (apologies if the answer to my question has already been posted here). Once you have completed your training is there any set time period before you can take leave ? Also if you have already booked a holiday and then receive the all important phone call, i assume that is tough luck - no holiday and no deferral available?

    Rgds
