No, not at all, i was with o2 since i got my first phone up until Feb this year. (5+ years) so i know both sides of the coin. I just got sick of the crap website and the lack of attractive call plans for prepay customers. Also the fact that they are the cheapest for prepay data at 0.5c/kb. (still robbery but the cheapest none the less.) Doesn't really matter now tho cause meteor are bringing out prepay data packages when they get their 3g network up and going (Sometimi i had asked o2 customer care about on many occasions over the year, to which the response was ALWAYS no.)

Sounds good! Now to choose is it really worthwhile. I've had half my family migrate to 3, and I don't call or text many other people these days. Decisions decisions.

I think Vodafone take the rip of republic to the extreme. Most expensive network, but their support is very good and efficent. There hungry for money though. They offer packages to professionals, and not to the average joe-so.

o2 are next in line and remain this way. They cover all ends of the market. They were always cheaper then Vodafone but still pricy. They were the winners and fought back competition by bringing to to the market new price plans for Bill & Pre Pay. Their website is very good, despite its regular down time I suppose - but when it can be used, its bucketloads better then the muck Meteor put together. Support and coverage is also excellent. They have now offered excellent broadband and 3g services and have exlusive rights in Ireland to the iPhone. For professional service at cheap prices - o2 really hit the nail on the head, but could do a lot better.

Meteor were the boys who I think, brought the main competition to the market. They came and offered decent rates, but never matched a service offered by anyother network. Cheap, but broken. Support was crap and a truely awful website. Coverage has improved, but isnt up to scratch yet. No 3g service yet. There behind in terms of offering quality service and they are only competitng on prices so far.

Still though, thanks to them o2 hit back (took them to long tho) with a fantastic offer to suit most peoples needs. However, the major flaw is pricing: far to high for phone calls. Meteor didnt wait long, and hit back with the same offer but much cheaper calls.

No network has offered a decent data rate yet. At least, not a decent network.

Im sticking with a network I can trust and rely on. If that means having to pay more, so be it.

It's an old thread because the problems have been going on for years. The last post was two days ago because that's the last time the site went down

3 are relaunching 3Pay very soon. Dont know what it is but it's supposed to beat other networks.

5000 texts maximum for the free unlimited texts if you send more than that a month you get charged standard text rates, I’m not sure about changing to any of the new offers by meteor as, I joined meteor back in the day when they first brought out the free meteor to meteor texts for life.

I say iv a better contract on the one im on as in the T&Cs of the new offers it says meteor have the right to pull the offer if they want. Don’t want to be risking my free texts or the free 3euro credit i get each month for free:D

Do you send more than 166.666667 texts per day?

They've always had a fair use policy in place, well atleast on the free texts and call to other half offers! I'm not sure if it was in place on the free texts and MMS offer from a few years back!

There was a time I'd send a 1000 a week, but got a bit sick of texting so eased up a bit!

My current plan is Pre-Pay Leisuretime Plus Free Texts for Life.

If I want to switch to Anytime Choice to avail of the new plans, it says i'll lose my free texts for life

Does anyone really use 5000 msgs a month? I've seen a lot of high users but I've never seen anyone go over 5000 a month. Same goes for minutes.

Not a chance could I use that much.

I'll probably go for the calls and texts to meteor customers, friends mostly are on meteor anyway.

Totally agree with all of the above. I'm a meteor bill pay customer for over 3 years now and my wife is on meteor payg for as long. Never have any signal issues. She will definitely be taking up the free meteor calls and text option.

At the moment she is on the free meteor texts and 1 free meteor number anytime. She is paying call charges of 25c at the moment, so her call charges are only increasing by 4c and her texts by 2c, but she will be gaining all meteor numbers free

For what she will be saving its only a small increase. Most of both our families and quite a few of our friends are all on meteor.

Ill definitly go for the free texts and calls to Meteor. Suits me down to the ground as most of my mates are on Meteor.

True, true but I can give you a couple of very valid reasons why I'm sticking with O2.
    • O2's customer service is far better than meteor's. I have been with meteor before and find O2's people much more in the know are willing to do anything to sort out your problem. Eg Last week my free text stopped working for some strange reason. When I rang customer care, they added €7 credit to my account to allow me to keep texting until the problem was sorted, which it was swiftly.
    • Free Bebo on your mobile has been extended to august and will more than likely be extended further. Just look at the demand for it for yourself on O2's bebo page.
    • Better range of handsets and by the looks for things to come as seen in the O2 customer forum there are a few more exciting handset releases planned for the coming months. (I'm looking to upgrade so this is good.)
    • Better network, O2's HSDPA network will soon enough be available all over the country. Where as Meteor is only testing their third gen network in parts of the country of the moment. Also meteor relies on vodafone's network as back up in rural parts of the country which doesn't really give a good impression for a network thats been around since 2001!
    • O2 is constantly adding new innovative features to its network which sets it apart form the others, things like the O2 Customer forum, O2 sim backup, Eliminating contracts with O2 Clear, Free Sim Cards @ freesims.ie & spend alerts.
    • And I'm sure in a couple of weeks O2 will 1 up these offers again, they have the money now that they part of the "telefonica" group.

Don't get me wrong there are things I do not like about O2 such as paying for voicemail and the 5 cent min call charge but the proof is their... the pro's out way the cons...:D

I think I'll stick with Anytime Plus. 20c/min. would move up to 29c/min. with the new Anytime Choice option. It seems they're gradually notching up the price of calls. Still good value but I'd prefer a cheaper base call rate.

Iv found Meteor support to be awful, but it may have improved in recent months. I know a lot of people who feel the same way. I think its fact that the network isnt as good as o2/Vodafone. They dont have as good as coverage and a lot of my friends on Meteor complain about the same problem.

Most people go with the price, and not the service. I like to go with a bit of both.

o2s website I dont use a huge amount, so ill withdraw that statement about Meteor being unstable cause its not fair to comment. Design wise and usability - o2s beats them hands down. Lets hope they stablise their backend for customers (o2).

I used meteor for years and also used vodafone at the same time, I now use vodafone(all the time) for the last about 5 years and have to say although their dear I rather pay for a quality service-decent selection of phones, perfect coverage, excellent customer care and the website which is never down! Meteor has improved since i was on them last but will stick with vodafone for now;)

o2 is the cheaper vodafone though. They offer more to their customers. Handset wise, its okay but all networks have a poor range of handsets. Apart from the iPhone of course, which o2 has :P

    Yeah o2 alone have that.

    >_>

What annoys me is the difference in handset choice that the networks offer here vs over the water. I can't see any reason for it (besides "because they can", "rip off Ireland").
At least with Meteor you don't gett he feeling you're being shafted in this regards.
I've found Meteor customer service poor, but still in a different class than 3's.
Did someone say the Meteor BillPay plans are getting a facelift ? As previously posted, they Talk 60 and Talk 200 plans are really not at the races anymore.
