Apparently 3 are set to launch new pre pay plans also (and i dont work for them so thats all I know, buddy wont give me any more info than that). They were supposed to do the free texts to every network but pulled it when o2 launched it. Asked it their Grafton Street store today but sales assistant seemed to not have a clue about what I was talking about.

sorry, i had to get a new laptop there. i'm not saying anything coz there is a serious hush campaign going on in meteor at the mo (they have serious expectations of this new promo) i will say it's competative to say the least, but if you think about it what can they do compared to what the other nets have done previously. you'll all see on the 18th, marketing budget behind it is rediculous, so believe me you will struggle to avoud it come the 18th.

by the by, pre pay data plan will be sooner rather than later. . .or so i've been told

While we're add-bashing - how does Meteor get away with radio adds claiming to have the latest handsets and modern network when they clearly don't ?

Samsung Tocco, N95 8gig, Samsung U900, Nokia E51, Sony W910i etc not modern enough?

Mostly recent additions, and on an EDGE network ?

Anyway, all will be forgiven if they can match the 10 euro /month data plan from 3 ;)

Not getting your logic there. 3G network is set up, just not commercially launched yet. There's plenty of people on boards using it.

Tocco is pretty new, but N95 has been there for 2 months, E51 longer, U900 released before O2 had it, and W910i is since around March. They're getting better. Granted, they weren't as good for getting new phones before, but the new catalogue also has the Sony C902 in there too.

Getting better, granted. Am on the 3G trial myself. My point being they were specifically advertising a bang up to date network, when they blatantly didn't have one.
I do like that they're putting it up to the other networks in terms of PAYG pricing though :)

I hope they have a good data plan for PAYG. I don't make calls enough to warrant bill pay, I always have €10-15 left a month after my €20 top up for free texts so I'd love to be able to put this towards data! Would make me a very happy camper!

Agreed, I'm hoping for a nice data package. The free data on this 3g trial is really getting me used to web access at the touch of a button.

Must be something big... Mate of mine was doing some voiceover work for meteor radio adds this week. He's done recordings for 20 adds so far this week..

sure he does.. and he is also most probably tied up in a non-disclosure agreement so tough luck...

The new tariff is great and easily competes with or kicks the ass of any current PAYG promotion out there.

The PAYG data plans won't be available immediately but should be in place by the 3G launch date. Meteor PAYG looking up for the first time in a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭thehomeofDob

When's the launch date? Will details of the Data plans be released prior to launch or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭Ah-Watch

any chance you'd elaborate on that without "officially"saying what it is?

So it's some combination of free/cheap calls/texts to certain/any networks/list of numbers at unrestricted/any time of the day/week, with minimum topup / no restrictions then.
    Just as we expected.

if someone did decide to break their little non disclosure thing would boards be able to protect their identity or would they be forced to hand over IP addresses?

Boards would delete the thread and ban the user for starters.

no that would be a violation of the data protection act. meteor has no authority to make boards hand over users' private data. it's possible, although extremely unlikely, that meteor could get the gardai involved because they have the authority to do it. even if meteor did do that, which they won't, the gardai would most likely tell them to fook off

what's more likely is that people giving away information have put enough information on the site about themselves to be tracked down. it's happened before, where someone posted confidential information and the company found out who it was because he had his website in his sig and they did a whois on it

Domains by proxy, which costs €2 a year or something, puts a stop to this :P

I have noticed though, on the side of My Meteor page it says

    "My Account
    Pre-Pay Anytime Plus No Twister"

What's this twister business? I googled it but found nothing...

Dunno. I noticed it too. Random made reference to it earlier on in this thread and a poster who worked in meteor said how that was the name of the original meteor tariffs or something..

    No Twister means nothing.

It's the internal name for the tariff plan your on. Twister was what the old PAYG promotions were called and you have a tariff plan that has No Twister. If this has only changed recently it's due to the recent MyMeteor upgrade.
