While these new price plans are welcome, i would have to agree with the statement above.

I'll also have to go through my last 3 months online spending and see how these affect my spending. Texts now 11c and calls now 29c/min. A big change from the 9c cent texts and the 20c/min calls im currently on.

Does anyone know the details of this "Anytime Choice" tariff that you have to be on to get the offers? I'm assuming I'll lose my call a friend for free, and maybe the call rate goes up like they did with call a friend for free?

Also, I heard a nasty rumour (from meteor cc) that the free Any Network texts doesn't include meteor texts? Maybe someone here who works for meteor can clear this up/confirm it?

Yes that's true, but that's not the point I am making. If o2 Clear can make free o2 and landline calls for 20 euros per month, why not something along those lines? I know that o2 Clear has a fee of 20 euros which you cannot use for other things, but Meteor is apparently going to spend a gigantic amount of advertising money over the upcoming weeks.

Why not the following:

Free Meteor + landlines anytime when topping up 20 euros.
Free landlines when topping up 10 euros.
Free all networks + landlines when topping up 30 euros.

Yeah, 9c texts vs 11c texts is a massive difference.
As is 20c calls vs 29c.

Not all that impressed to be honest, but depending on how many regulars are on Meteor, I might go with the free calls option.

Oh, and I've discovered how to find out who's on Meteor. Just text their number to 50004.

well there is no need for phone a friend for free as all calls and texts are free:

in a nut shell:

anytime choice,
choice of free meteor to meteor calls and texts 24/7 or free any network text(including meteor) top up 20 euro dependant
calls to other networks 29c
texts to other neworks 11c

I don't think there's really too many savings to be made on the new plans to be honest. I'd say the average spend of customers will be the same as the rest of the plans.

i think its more about what you get for your money tho, your spending the same but getting more for it!!

There are savings to be made. Based on how you use the phone. If you're sending 1000 texts a week, 20euro gets you unlimited texts, plus your calls are 20c a minute cheaper than the closest alternative. 40% saving not enough?

All these plans depend on your usage. The idea behind them is to get everyone you know onto the same plan. Most people have a circle of 10 people they text/call constantly. All of ye switch onto that and you're laughing.

Calls are 40% cheaper, hardly a bit. It is a better package based on the calls alone. You're getting the exact same deal, just 40% cheaper calls.

The way the plan is broken down is as follows.

Anytime Choice

Mobile Calls (any network): 29c
Landline Calls: 29c
Text Messages: 11c

When you put 20e in a month, you choose from ONE of TWO promotions. The 20e, as always, must be put in at once, although there are cases where 10e twice a day within a day seems to work okay, but not always.

Promo 1: Free Meteor to Meteor Calls and Texts. Same restrictions as PAFFF, where one call cannot exceed 60 minutes or you will be charged.

Promo 2: Unlimited Texts to Meteor, O2, Vodafone, 3 and Tesco (and any other Irish mobiles but I think I covered the lost).

The free Meteor to Meteor texts were always very popular. Now that they've added free calls to that aswell will make it extremely attractive and there's no need for Phone a Friend For Free because ALL Meteor calls are free.

Then you have free texts to all networks for people who text a lot.

Much better than what was available previously.

you always had a choice. it used to be free meteor texts OR 5c meteor calls. this new offer is better for most but not for me tbh.

since i use texting programs exclusively for texting, the text rate doesn't matter to me. i'm currently on the 5c meteor calls and i don't think that saving 5c per minute on meteor calls is worth 9c per minute being added to other calls

Also the sneaky "orange" men also added a lil cent minimum call charge too...I won't be changing from O2 anyway. I've dealt with meteor before and O2 are far superior in terms of network, phones and customer service! Plus bebo is free until 31st of august with O2 and will more than likely be extend further too!

Although it depends on usage patterns ... as a general rule the most important thing you need to consider with a package is the Xnetwork call charge. Meteor have hiked this by a massive 45% and hiked texting by 22% (maybe they have also changed smaller print tariffs as well).
You need to carefully look at your usage patterns before committing to these new hiked up base charges.

It is good offer - better than anything Vodafone or O2 offer but many people are better off with the old tarrifs or with Tesco Mobile.

for someone who doesn't text much, this new price plan isn't enough to stop me switching from Meteor to O2 Clear is it? Or am I missing something?

O2 Clear : Unlimited calls to O2 and Landlines for €20 a month, 10 cent texts (all networks), 25c per minute for calls to other networks. (30 day notice period to end contract)

Yes, but this offer only is good for those who text AND call a lot. I don't call that much, and I dont really like Meteor very much (support is awful, and their website is ****e).

I agree that a lot will move from o2 now who call and text a lot. I can see o2 probably reducing their stupid call prices.

Sweet, Free calls to all meteor and free texts, I like. Up from teh free calls to one person.

As for the site, I never have to log in,
1)I sent texts from there by putty.
2) Their coverage is perfect for me, don't think I have ever lost it.
3) Have never had to use their customer support.

While i accept that the o2 site has a better layout, what good is a better design when the the site is always down!
