And this is my commuting workhorse. It's a singlespeed made out of an old Dawes steel frame I had powdercoated chocolate brown. The wheels are Mavic Open Sport with System Ex tracks hubs and Armadillo tyres.

Raam, where did you get the brakes for this?

I need some deep canti brakes for mine, your frame looks similar to the one I have where the forks are well above the top of the wheel

They are long-reach calipers, not cantis! (Will help if you are googling for them!)

    Tektro from Wiggle

    Shimano Ultegra-quality from Totalcycling

Wow, I'm a double-thick-brained fool today. Calipers is what I meant, yes. I swear! I have numerous smaller ones at home. I'm cool, I'm cool, I know my terminology...

Jesus, they're not cheap are they?

Sorry about that Raam. I'll PM Ghost-Rider: maybe s/he'd be willing to sell me one pair of his/hers for a few quid.

I get them mixed up all the time, caliper, cantilever, both start with a C!

Sorry - only saw your question today! Anyway, I replied to your PM. For anyone else who's interested, I bought those extra long reach calipers from a shop in the US called Velo Orange. They seem to offer the best deal and were prepared to deliver them to Oyerland for only $16:

    Hi RP

Nice build up! I have two pompinos, looking to get a new wheelset for the 120mm spaced frame (the other, older one is 135mm). What's your set up there?

They're lovely frames, very comfortable. This is a 135mm, with a Surly hub rear, gearing is 39/14, 94.5" I think - a reasonable compromise for speed and the gentle hills I have on my commute. Bars are On-one Mungos, very practicle, especially when you need to get out of the saddle. BMX brake lever has the right ratio to work the 105 front. Just got done fitting mudguards -- nearly took as long as the whole build.

This is my 2 year old Pinarello F4:13, which was my dream frame for years and had to have it, even after a couple of years I still think its a stunning bike. Recommend it to anyone! Ebay is king, massive savings!

Nice bike, deserves a better picture! Saw someone on a wavy Pinarello on Sunday, think it was a F4:13.

Is that Record or Chorus you have on? Do you find the "onda" fork and seat stays help with comfort?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 253 ✭✭Tackleberry

Hey Blorg, thanks, and yeah defo needs a better pic but I reckon the neighbours would have me committed if they saw me out in the garden taking photos of a bike! Might be worth it tho!

Its record 10 speed g/set, total campag fan myself, can't go wrong with them. The wavy fork and stays do seem to make it a very comfortable bike, but very responsive and stiff, I love the wheels too, but basically all I'll say is if you're dreaming about any bike and don't have to get into debt then do it - you'll have no regrets, and if you do it right you'll save thousands so you'll have a grace period where you can defend yourself by saying its worth more than you paid!!

I ebayed it, and saved maybe €2,500, the frame alone cost €2,700 in cyclesuperstore at the time, I paid €1,650 incl postage, moral of the story - don't give those bastard your hard earned money!!!

Let me join the chorus is saying that's a beautiful bike. I'm a big admirer of the newer Pinarellos, particularly the new Prince.

For the Record :o, I too think the Pinarello is lovely :D

Here's a pic of my new crankset; one of the few parts for my build that have actually arrived

A mix of Campag Record and Chorus where appropriate; the cranks were a bit of an impulse buy, but they're lovely. So light!

Some new acquisitions. From back- my existing honey Brooks B17, and a new black Swift and honey Swallow (both titanium railed.) The Swift in the foreground is actually the same colour as the B17, that is the way it will go as it ages. The Swift is now on my tourer and idea was to stick the Swallow on my road bike but I'm not 100% sure, might just look ridiculous on a Focus Cayo. I'm working on breaking in the Swift first and I'll think about it. I'm primarily concerned about comfort and got them as I liked the B17 so much. So far the Swift is feeling good, feels racier than the B17 allowing freer leg movement.

One thing I would note: the workmanship on the B17 is every bit as good as the new ones, meaning while the B17 is a bargain Brooks really gouge you on their more expensive saddles!
