Just back from opening up an account at Halifax (Still waiting approval).

Anyway, they said the debit card could not be used online in the same way a credit card can be, that they wouldn't be widely accepted as a credit card, that it'd be similar to how the laser card is accepted. So I just signed up for their credit card (awaiting approval).

Anyway, they are probably going to get me to switch to them from AIB, take out life insurance and probably a few more things too. I know nothing about what banks have to offer, but they sell themselves well. Just wondering should I sign up to these things or can I get much better deals in savings, insurance and all that elsewhere? Their saving account thing is 5.something% interest up to 10K and 4% after 10K, their current account interest is 10.something% up to 2K.

Don't want to start signing up to things if there are much better deals elsewhere, or are they pretty much all the same in the end?

How do I use IBAN to transfer money from my 365online account, to my wirecard account?

    Anyone?

Wanna be able to trasnfer funds from my current account, to buy stuff online with wirecard. BOI 365 customer here.

Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.

Log into your wirecard account. Click the "My account" button which reveals your current balance. Click the little arrow beside account details, this will reveal your personal IBAN and BIC codes for your account. Note these down carefully.

Now log into banking 365 and select international transfer. You will have to enter the IBAN and BIC from before and the amount you are sending. Select standard or urgent depending on how quick you want the money to get to wirecard. Note fees will apply for urgent transfer.

BOI asks for banks location, Germany is it?

Seemed to have added fine. Just said it was in Germany, and gave Germany as the address.

I wont be spending what I don't have on my credit card, no seriously, I wont :D so I don't think they'll be making much off me if I clear the balance before interest is owed?

My GF was really good with money, got a CC... paid off 100% evey month for about 6 months.. She's had 2.5k outstanding on it since last summer. Everytime I pay some off it goes back up.....

If ur really good with it u'll be grand but I don't think anyones good with money.. I know one guy that has 25K outstanding on various cards... That is complete madness.

So your money is in limbo now?

With AIB they send you out a code card which needs you to enter a new code for each transfer. It won't allow a transfer to be entered without it. I assume BOI are the same.

lads just seeing this topic now after ordering my 3v card the other day which has yet to arrive..anyway it seems this is alot better..but after reading through the thread..at the start everyone has good toughts and half way through i start to see people posting bout bad stuff..

such as having to send documents to them to get validated etc..

now what i want to know does this happen to everyone or is it to do with how you deposit into your wirecard account?

it seems that sending it directly to german account and not a boi account is alot easier? and you wont get any hassle that you dont need

It's true. A friend of mine was in the US and nowhere he tried accepted his Halifax visa debit card. Thankfully he had a normal credit card with him too!

Lots of shops in Ireland can't accept them either, something about needed brand new card terminals..?

Sounds a bit like our retarded Maestro cards. Something to do with banking backend systems was the sorry excuse I heard about those.

Seeing as Halifax are the only bank here offering Visa debit cards I'm guessing they don't have the same status as regular Visa debit cards. A mate in England who has a Visa debit card (not with Halifax afaik) can use it online no problem. Maybe these Halifax Visa debit cards should be called "irish visa debit cards (TM)".

I wish I knew that before going to the bother of opening an account just for the Visa Debit card. Although I applied for a Credit Card at the same time so at least I got that done. Would prefer to get an oxfam or some charity CC though.

Has anyone run into this problem with AIB? I use their internet banking facilities to add wirecard's BOI Dublin account. That works without a hitch and I go to transfer money into it. I'm informed by wirecard that I must include my wc account number and my mobile with the transaction.

However, AIB only offers a small space to put a message that will appear on your account, and one that will appear on the recipient's account. I try to fit my account and phone number in the latter but they won't fit.

I figure both details were for extra security. I managed to fit my account number in the box and sent he funds, thinking they'd be ok. I was sure I'd read previously here that someone sent funds with only their account number included.

Fast forward 2 weeks and my money has yet to appear and they're not responding to any emails.

Did Wirecard tell you in an email that you must include the account number and mobile number in the reference field? Or did you read it on site? I transferred funds recently and didn't use the mobile number and it showed up quickly. Is your account verified? Maybe that's why. My account was locked recently and there was no answer to my emails....I had to get onto their rep in Second Life who was a great help.

Why on earth if you have AIB online are you bothering with local accounts? Quicker and easier to IBAN direct online. Money takes 3 days max to appear. Those local accounts are nothing but trouble.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭innisfree

No I just read it. If my account was to be verified, surely when I log in it would mention something to me? Or have they yet to iron out this blip in communication?

I've had no notion of it not being verified, but the opposite is true.

    I don't have second life I'm afraid.

I'm new to both wirecard and AIB internet banking, that's probably why on earth. You sound certain of your opinions so I'll take the advice, thankyou.

Bond-007 is right and is trying to help you. Use international transfer for all future transfers. It also won't say when you log in whether you need to verify or not...they should have got back to you via email. Can you give them a ring if you want to try and get the funds you're missing? 00 49 1805 94 73 22
