I think she hit the nail on the head there on everything apart from the worst episode ever. The Jack one earlier on was really atrocious and I really didn't like the Sun one in early s2...

Can you seriously say you enjoyed this less than the episode where we learned what Jack tattoos meant?... and feck all else!

Oh yes, that episode was poor too - I think I gave it a 6 though, because I liked the scenes on the island.

And I have absolutely no problems with fillers either before anyone says that! I loved the episode with the van...but there was no sort of entertainment in this episode - it was just kind of boring...pointless...

Maybe I could stretch it to a 5/10 just for the bit with Ben and Juliet in the hatch which was sort of interesting, and the fact that the black smoke punished Nikki for what she did to Paulo, and also the scene with Nikkis eyes opening and her being buried alive.

But apart from that - pure sh1te!!! :p

Next week's will probably be good.

    The drugs plane!

1x19 Deus Ex Machina - The plane falls on top of the Pearl Station with Boone inside.
2x01 Man of Science, Man of Faith - The survivors get in to the Swan Station.
2x14 One Of Them - Henry is captured by the French woman.
2x21 ? - Locke and Eko find the Pearl Station and have to move the plane in order to open the hatch.

It doesn't matter when the footage that Ben and Juliette were watching takes place because the plane was lying on top of the hatch between 1x19 and 2x21 so there's no way Paulo and Nikki could have got in that way.

Yet more evidence that the producers are making the show up as they go along.

The plane mustn't have landed directly over the hatch when it fell. Why else would Ben say "cover the door with the plane", or something to that extent, if it was already in the way?

Nikki and Paulo discover the Pearl on day 28, during 1x13. Paulo goes back to hide the diamonds in 2x09 "What Kate Did". The plane fell in 1x19 but not directly on the hatch, it was moved over to cover it by the others later. I don't see any problem with this.

And just because they didn't plan every tiny little detail back in season 1 doesn't mean they're making everything up as they go. J Michael Straczynski spent years developing Babylon 5 before a single episode was shot but there was still loads of changes he made along the way.

Good episode. I somewhat like how they fitted these two characters in and it was really good seeing old characters re-appearing, though it is odd how the main characters used are actually dead now; shannon, boone and artz.

Anyways, does anyone have the clip from season 1, where the guy gets sucked into the engine.. i'll check youtube for it now. No luck yet.

What I'm wondering is that in this episode, Jack says to Nicki to stay back before this happens. Does this feature in the pilot episode?

Are Ben and The Others the unwitting subjects of some Dharma experiment on The Pearl? Or maybe Paolo was being manipulated by Ben and Elizabeth? (Don't know why that would be) Anyone got any ideas?

Elizabeth? I'm nearly sure it was Juliet who entered the Pearl with Ben and not Libby, Libby was a Lostie before Michael "popped a cap in her ass"... :D
The only question is did Ben press the button? He claimed he did nothing and the counter reset by itself, which given the season finale seems unlikely. So maybe he had a moment of doubt, or maybe he had to enter the numbers so he could use the computer to contact his people.
It's beginning to look like Ben was sowing seeds of doubt in the minds of the Losties from the moment Rousseau captured him. He'd probably been hoping for an electromagnetic anomaly to sever the island's links with the outside world, and that couldn't have been achieved as long as the hatch was sealed with Desmond inside. And just last week he thanked Locke for blowing up his sub. Whether or not that's what Locke actually did we don't know for certain, however!

    Solid episode I thought.

I complained a couple of weeks ago about the 'Hurley and his car' episode because it was utterly pointless and it had nothing of a progressing storyline from a previous episode. However, I'm not complaining here because this episode was far better imo. It really showed that there can be solid episodes that don't necessarily continue on with the main story (although I would've liked to have seen what happened next between Locke and his dad).

Anyway, enjoyable episode, it was interesting to see a Nikki and Paulo backstory. Good, dark ending too.

Oh and a side note, I only found out near the end that Paulo is Xerxes from 300...couldn't believe it!

I loved this episode only gripe about was it did nothing to move the larger story along, i mean it was nice to see the story of 2 other survivors but it would have been even nicer if they had given us a continuation of last week also is it just me or is Hurley one awesome dude or what? gets funnier every week

Are you guys forgetting that appalling episode 5 or 6 weeks ago where Hurley found a Dharma-esque VW Transporter and spent the entire episode trying to get the thing going? Worst episode ever, shameless filler, a few "feel-good" vibes but nothing else

I think he meant Elizabeth Mitchell, the actress who plays Juilet.

Perhaps but I don't think Ben could have planned for Desmond returning (he didn't know about the boat) and activating the fail-safe. Had it not been for Desmond then the result of the button not getting pushed would have probably been disastrous. This is why I don't think Ben knew the real purpose of the button, he just thought it was psychological experiment like the Pearl video told him it was. That's why the Others left Des and Kelvin alone. Or perhaps they didn't know about them then. They may have only recently discovered the Pearl.

And while Ben is a good manipulator, not all his plans work out perfectly as we saw with Jack earlier this season. His original plan was to try and win Jack over using Juilet, knowing the two of them might have something together. Sawyer and Kate were backup—bait in case that failed. But then Colleen got shot (by Sun) and his whole plan got messed up. It still sorta worked out though.

    2) How did Paulo get out of the hatch, considering Ben and Juliet almost certainly lock it behind them.

I doubt that Ben and Juliet actually used the hatch to get to the hatch, otherwise the conversation we hear them having about who left it open would have happened on the surface as opposed to when they had reached the bottom.
There's most likely a connecting tunnel somewhere....

I enjoyed that one actually. Thought it was a nice, chilled out episode that reminded me of episodes similar to it in s1. Yeah, bugger all happened, but after all the nonsense with Jack and the others, I thought it was a nice story which showed that the characters are actually humans, and not just nickname-making, korean-speaking, death-wish-depending-on-the-scotsman-so-I'll-mope-around-like-a-pr1ck-for-a-while characters.

I enjoyed the VW episode aswell.
The show was never a constant stream of crazy cliffhangers and action,
back in Season 1 there were loads of episodes like that.
People just tolerated it more then for some reason.
If by "filler" you mean "they didn't answer any questions", then yes it was filler.
But it was still 40-something minutes of good television (imo).

It was Locke, and no he doesn't!
I went back to check, they must have added it in (I doubt they shot it way back whenever the 1st episode was shot and then just cut it out... were Nikki and Paulo even hired then? probably not.)
Looks like the filmed some of those early scenes again from different angles, that must have been a bítch for continuity!

Yeah it was defo Locke, Jack was down on the sand helping Claire as she was pregnant at the time. I think if Locke had said nothing then the guy would not have been sucked in because when Locke calls him, the man stops and then the engine sucks him in. If Locke said nothing i think the guy would have ran past before the engine had a chance to suck him in.

    DAMN you Locke :D

Why didn't Ben just walk up to Jack way back at the beginning and say "Hi, I'm Ben. Pleased to meet you. I hear you are a spinal surgeon - could you help me I have a tumor?"

Why all the big drama to get Jack to do the surgery?

By the time they found out that Jack was a spinal surgeon, there was already agro between the survivors and the Others so Ben couldn't just ask. I guess if he'd known from the start that Jack could help him, the Others would have been a lot more friendly.

We don't know when the Others got the records from all of the people on the Island. So it is possible that they knew about Jack before they even crashed.

I'm 99% sure they Others are not all powerful and knowing. I think they sent Ethan in to get as much info as possible and once they had names, they were able to do their research. It was then that Ben came up with the plan to infiltrate the camp by getting caught etc etc etc.

Great episode, nice to see cameos from some killed-off characters. By now, Ethan must have appeared in more episodes after his death than before it.

There's a chance Nikki and Paulo might survive long enough for Vincent to dig them up, but I doubt it. Don't care about Paulo but Nikki was smokin' hawt. That scene with her, Shannon and Kate together was the most hotness-per-square-inch seen on tv since the glory days of Baywatch.

It was funny to have Sawyer keep asking who Nikki was - all along, another two con artists were on the island with him and he had no idea.

Good to see Sun's kidnapping come to light again, I thought it had been forgotten about. When Jin finds out, there'll be hell to pay.

Lost is back on top form lately and if it keeps going like this, the season finale will be mind-blowing.

I just think it would have been strange if Ethan went up to everyone and asked them their full names after crashing on the Island. Then again, it is possible that Ethan got a glimpse of the list Hurley was making.

Let's think of it this way.

    Plane Crashes.
Ethan is sent to investigate and make a list of anyone useful
Ethan reports back with a number of names - Jack being the leader must of been mentioned.
Others do a back ground search on list - start by getting details off flight list etc.
Others find out that Jack is a surgeon.

Now all of this could easily have happened before any agro between them. If I am right the first real incident was when Ethan was discovered and took Claire. I can't recal any of the main bunch being kidnapped like the Tailies were.

I'm going to presume that by 'they' you mean her boobs.

    Yeah. Boobs. :)

    ...

I enjoyed this episode... looking forward to next week though when I expect the whole Locke/Jack/Ben/Submarine/Kaboom/OMG! story to develop...

You still reckon that as soon as Claire had given birth, they would have kicked her out and kept her baby. Thats all they were interested in at the time.

Once the list of the passangers had been made The Others began to kidnap them one by one (from both groups) so I doubt they're the type of people to just walk up and ask for help.

Crazy though how the story would have changed had Paulo told everyone of the conversation he overheard.
